all of these laptops have penryn chips now. Heck, even dell's budget line inspirons got penryns today.

f*ckin' shame apple. what happened to being ahead of the competition introducing products first

I'm really hoping that the Penryn's 45nm process + that new material that replaces silicon (to reduce energy leakage) will result in the complete and utter death of the processor whine problem once and for all.

Come on Intel, my C2D notebook has the same whine as my girlfriend's ooold Pentium M notebook. You should have had this sorted by now.

I just demoed a Sony Viao AR series with the Penryn chip and a blueray writer. Man, Bluray movies in 1900x1200 resolution look CRAZY good! If the new Macbooks don't have bluray as an option I may look into the Viao.

It would be a shame if the new MBP's didn't have Bluray as an option. Once you see it in person you're ruined.

I'll take your word for it and skip looking at Blu-ray for now!

I've been thinking about that too. HD-DVD only officially died this week though. So i'm thinking maybe the next generation of laptops will have blu-ray. On a 15/17 inch monitor though, the difference between SD and HD isn't that profound. You need a much larger screen to truly realize the difference (i'm not saying there is NO difference!).

You know what feature the new MBP should have (that no one has mentioned)?

A user replaceable hard drive. The standard Macbook has it, why not the MBP?

change my status to waiting till Jan 2009. I can't seriously buy a laptop now when I know quad core is 10months away!

No, they won't. Apple wants you to buy and rent movies from then, so they sure as heck aren't going to support another competing format.

As of right now i'm DYING to get a MBP, and bought a Student ADC membership to take advantage of the deeper discount. (before anyone says anything...I AM a student, but not quite in the realm of developing...but I do video editing and capturing, so I do need a pro)

Should I get it now, or stay on pins and needles for the updated MBP's or get now, now now?

(and how long is the grace period between new models?)

Oh come on, it's not that hard to replace the disk. Takes all of 15 minutes with the iFixIt guides.

I am about to go Nuts

I don't care anymore, It may not be politically correct to say; but I would rather go through Pregnancy. Through the tremendous pain, I'll at least know the great outcome and pretty good idea as to when~
