No, they have a event on the 29th:
From what I've read so far I guess that we can skip this "Linkin Park Event" story concerning the MBP. A rockband at a Pro-Event? I can hardly beleave that. Probably some iTunes/iPod/iPhone stuff (iPhone SDK).Oh, I had already forgotten about the Linkin Park thing. Zzzzzzz...
Concerning the MBP next Tuesday would be possible again, because the SDK would stick to the Event on another date.
Seems reasonable to me.Lets face it. We have four weeks to wait for an update. If we don't get it by end of March then I guess it would be safe to assumewill skip Penryns.
I very much doubt it though. I am starting to think the crunch gear rumor of March 17h may be accurate.
Relax, take a deep breath. We all understand that Penryn processors have not been shipping in quantity, even by those manufacturers that have announced Penryn laptops. I understand that if Apple had announced them for future delivery, at least we could have stopped wondering. But if indeed there is an Apple "event" next Tuesday, it would add considerable weight to the event if Apple announced the new MBP's alongside the SDK for iPhone. Hopefully they will be available for immediate ordering.
That gives the Penryn MBP a good six months to be king of the hill before the Montevina update actually hits the shelves.
I understand how this process might lead to thoughts of suicide, but buying a Dell...
What happened when Apple stopped updating their Pro notebook line?
People freaked.

x2. Thank you for summing up my thoughts.
I mean, damn, I've already waited this long. Might as well keep it up until they finally come out. The Dell looks alright...but no backlit keyboard, cool Mac design, crappy GPU...ugh, no. I'll wait. No doubt.
So, according to your theory, 2 half month after penryn release (March 17th), new batch of MBP with montivena (june ) is going to show up ?
If so, question to ask is, would you buy the penyrn then only to get it outdated in less than 3 months ?
gesture'.
i'm not shaving until its announced in protest
If Apple is smart, they will not introduce 'touch gesture' with penryn. This is to protect the 'exclusiveness' and charm of the MBA. If 'Touch gesture' is to be included with MBPs, they might wait till Montivena to introduce 'touch gesture' to the MBP.
The June release of MBP with intel montevina with 'touch gesture' also coincides more with the 'fall semester back to school' laptop shopping spree. By then, they have milked all they can from MBA and its 'touch gesture'.

I have been waiting a long time but am just a lurker and have not posted here yet. It better be here on the 26th!
I'm going to forward your post to Steve Jobs immediately. There is absolutely no doubt he will give the word when he realizes that Chow7 (a freshly outed lurker on MR) has uttered such an awesome sounding proclamation!
So, this is good news:
Dell showing Feb 26th as ship date for Penryn-based notebooks
Apple is quite cozy with Intel, so I bet Penryn's are in Apple's hands too, and they are trying to get them out the door ASAP.
