Macrumors,

You can't hide app without installing 11 whole pages. Your post is very misleading.

You left out the ability to forward and delete individual text messages.

I wish you could hide them without 11 pages though... Maybe Apple will give us the ability to hide them in 4.0...

Also, how do you forward texts? I haven't found that yet. Edit: Found it. Finally! I've wanted this!

yes, and some others too like the ipod and some backgrounds I have found.

The thing I don't like is the Green SMS icon no longer says SMS or anything, just Green icon with White bubble.

I hadn't thought about their reasoning until you said that, but technically, its no longer just for SMS... Its now SMS/MMS...

Add/Edit new contact when on call

Does any one know whether this is possible in 3.0, add a new contact when on call. ?

There is no limit to the number of apps that can be installed (beside storage space). Once you reach the home screen limit, Apps installed after that are installed without an icon but can be accessed in Spotlight. You can also use this to hide any apple application (i.e. weather and stocks) ... You can now have 11 home screen pages instead of nine.

Yea-ha! I hate stocks and the default Weather app is not as good as 3rd party versions. Thank you, Apple, for letting us hide the useless, screen hogging default apps! This was the #1 feature I wanted. I have more than 11 screens worth of applications I would like available. The other thing I really wanted was a way to organize things. I suggested via Apple/Feedback that they might want to investigate the revolutionary concept of directories and folders. I hear back in the early 1980's this was used on some computers...

EASY TETHERING for iPhone 3G 3.0

A buddy of mine just sent this to me. It's been the easiest that I've seen to set up tethering on new 3.0 Firmware for the 3G. You can actually visit this site on THE SAFARI BROWSER ON YOUR IPHONE and activate it immediately.

I'm getting more and more excited about iPhone 3GS. Would have liked a case redesign, but that can wait till next year and (maybe) Verizon.. :D

3.0 does not allow Spotlight phone number search!

3.0 does not allow Spotlight phone number search! How could this be?! enter a phone number or part of one in the spotlight search and you get NO RESULTS! Big omission, Apple...

Music

Something i noticed which is very small but good in my case.

When your listening to a compilation album and double click the button instead of saying "Various Artists" i will say the song artist (i.e song artist is show over album artist) good for all us music fanatics =D

I want the option to hide the Apple apps at least. They take up a page by themselves.

I'm not sure if anyone has thought of this...but use the parental controls to turn off the apple apps you don't want, then they won't appear.

unfortunately the only apply apps you can disable are safari, youtube, itunes / app stores, camera, and location based services.

on another note, in the settings menu... is it just me or are the icons or text smaller than before?

Wireless headset???

Now that the iPhone (finally) has voice-dial, oopps, I mean voice control, do you have to use the wired Apple headphones with mic?

Are there any wireless bluetooth headsets that can be used?

3.0 Sucks!

3.0 absolutely sucks. My PDF files FREEZE when I open them in an email, the phone's responsiveness has slowed, and the battery life is worse! The call reception is terrible, and 3G doesn't even work 90% of the time (Switches to Edge and even to the other service with the little circle, whatever that is?) When I upgraded, it added a completely blank page for my icons right after the home page. I had to move them one by one, ridiculous. I was really excited that this 3.0 was going to make the phone better, but it's worse. How can I get the old OS back?

Screen capture?

Not sure if it's a new feature, or one I never noticed, but home+lock=screen capture.

Forget about directories and folders. Just use tags...

Tags are much more flexible and is the trends. As you download an app and is placed onto the springboard you can assign a tag onto it by pressing on the icon for more than 10 seconds or so. So, pressing on the icon will vibrate it for movement and if you keep holding on it it will bring up the keyboard for tag assignment.

Next as you create new tags that did not exist before a new tag icon appears on the springboard making the app icon disappear. As you continue to tag icons on the springboard they disappear into that tag icon.

Under settings there should be a tag manager where you can assign colors and change the default icon with photo pictures and so forth.

Songs speed scrubbing control

Also, i am not sure if it was on 2.2.1 firmware, but when you push the white dot to move the song forward or backwards, it says below "slide your finger down to adjust the scrubbing rate" which is adjusted to, "high speed scrubbing, half speed scrubbing, quarter speed scrubbing, fine scrubbing" its really cool!

also if your on the first home page and hit the home button it brings up spotlight so you don't have to swipe also instead of setting it up for the double tap 

Well thats more of two single taps, as opposed to a double tap. You have to wait a second in between.

Are you kidding, my iPod touch is noticeably faster, plus all the awesome features! I'm happy with it.:)

What is this? it sounds cool, but I have never heard of it. Is it like an App or part of 3.0?

I know I'm stupid :p

Another tip I've found

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned.

But when you press the menu button while on the first menu, it takes you to search. This is just another way of getting there, instead of swiping to the left!

It's a response to those that want to use directories or folders to categorize apps on the Springboard. I was arguing that tags is the way to go.

I wish it was in OS 3.0 but sad to say it's not.
