Looks like Apple told all early reviewers in order to review the phone you HAVE to talk about how great Animoji is.....
...or competent reviewers are noting a new feature that was given ample attention during the keynote and is now able to be tested in the wild. Or conspiracy theories, right?

Reactions: the future
Judging by the quote, it appears that @Relentless Power is in agreement that it worked as it is supposed to.

I was referring to his use of the word "fail." It didn't.

I didn't fall for anything. I understand how it was intended to work. I was explaining the reason why it did not work on stage as intended.

I get it. My quibble was your use of the word "fail." It didn't fail.

what's up with every review phone being the white one. all the pictures posted today are white?

I'm sure the space gray will be fine, but they are making it like white is the one to have

I've watched some unboxing & hands on movies, but I didn't find the answer...
Do you know is it posiible to disable the "home bar"

I know it is possible to disable it by API function, so 3rd party app devs can do it in their apps.
But... is it possible do disable it at all in Settings?

I'm talking about this black horizontal line at the bottom of the screen:
OV_UI_Appearance_X.png

Right? If MS can figure it out. Apple damned sure can. I have faith it will be working well pretty fast

I seriously hope they get it to work better than Windows Hello on Surface Pro. This is a piece of crap. It recognizes me in good light without any distractions maybe 1 time out of 10. I don't expect the X to do much better in real life.

Even though pretty much every review says it works well?

Why though everyone has the white color, I haven't seen the black one in pictures or videos yet.

Where I live, if I bought one of these, you wouldn't see me operating in direct sunlight with it for fear of theft. If I'm at the beach, I'll gladly enter the passcode anyway. Its not like Touch ID is superior either, it only works less than half the time for me on my iPhone 6s. I have four fingers assigned and I can't either to work.

you don't need to **** on it to justify your own purchase. This was never really a phone targetted for people that like the plus phones. Its a larger screen iphone, or a smaller screened iphone plus. You don't want the compromise in size, wait for the plus version.

this is why Im getting the X. The plus is too big and bulky for me once I put a case on it. My concern is still the notch, somI'll give it a week.

because the pre-orders didnt go as well as previous years, so they need to build a hype as fast as possible. And that is also why Apple sent out first units to people for whom they know they'll go on their knees or bend over to Apple and make a "its awesome!" review just for a chance to be among the first reviewers.

They noted and what? Followed the lead? If Apple put it into the keynote it must be a huge feature, right?

Where I live the sun exists not only on the beach :)

Just thought - why does it matter if FaceID is 1-in-a-million? If it doesn't recognise you it falls back to passcode, so both biometric systems are only as strong as the passcode you use

It does not matter. 1-in-a-million is a ratio for false positives. What matter most is the ratio for false negatives. The Verge already reported that they observed Face ID failure to recognize registered owner. That's one out of 20 (or so) reviewers selected by Apple. We'll know how well it works soon.

There are actually a few reviewers saying that Face ID doesn't work all the time, it's not just Nilay.

I would assume granting permission to the camera would also grant permission to the sensor.
There’s 2 cameras...an infrared camera used for FaceID in conjunction with the IR dot projector... and a normal camera. The front camera can be used without the IR Camera/ Dot projector.

hmm if the face id does not work when in normal outdoor setting.,. yea that for me will be enough to just return it..
will be doing test also with my wife's note 8 and my Pixel XL(1) :D
From the reviews..very few are real reviews...most are just unboxing which is bit lame..
i guess we have to wait till Friday...

Just watched all these unboxings, and i found only 1 kinda of useful. They are cookie cutter videos in every single way.

1) talk about size
2) talk about display
3) Talk about face ID (not even the good details) but in a horrible fan boy way.
4) Talk about Animojis
5) talk about camera and not even mention nothing useful like improved aperture.
6) do a front facing selfie and think its the best thing since sliced bread.

Alot of these guys had only 24 hours with phone, i get it. But attention to detail is something seriously lacking. If i was a youtube content creator, at least be different...

MKBHD and Jonathan Morrison had the best ones.

Kez showed the software and some of the camera quality. Pixel 2 XL looked superior.

JMo showed many different angles of the silver X.

24 hrs. Can't expect much FEELS from speed dating.
