The silver one is the flagship. Looks the most unique. The black one looks like a black iPhone 7 from far I think.
They also have white iPhones and I think you can say the same thing. Don't get me wrong, the white model, does look sharp.

touch id was inconsistent when it came out
Agreed.

I still use my preordered 5s, and still swear that they updated the firmware / software to make it better. It is still notably slower than the newer versions installed in my iPad Pro, and 7, but it’s more reliable than it was at first. I can recall many times having to go direct to password on the 5S, because it wouldn’t unlock via touch.

Just read the Verge and it’s official, FaceID does not work as it should, unfortunately as many have anticipated it will take next generation to fix it.

Holding the phone at a given distance? Not working well in sunlight?

Sure great...

One of the reviewers said regarding the notch.

He stated along the lines of "It is a thing, but you get used to it." I'm not liking the idea of having to "get used" to a design issue on Apple's premium product.

Nonsense. You need to read it again apparently.

That stainless steel coners reminds the original iPhone. Looks beautiful in silvers color
Silver is the best color for iPhone X until product red comes in the future. I never liked silver and chose it for my previous iPhones until noticed it for first time on the iPhone X design. It looks so gorgeous and premium compared to space gray.

Apple will have tested the X in the Grand Canyon, Antarctica, the North Pole, San Diego, Liverpool and almost certainly Manchester on a bleak rainy day.
Folks will just have to adjust, it will work with tweeks to how you 'normally' unlock.

They will have to do better than this to make up for the lack of headphone socket. I’ll keep my iPhone 6S for another year.
People still complaining about the headphone jack maybe I just don’t care because I haven’t really used it since the iPhone 3GS

Nonsense. The Verge’s Review was the only one that I saw that said anything about having an issue in bright sunlight. I’ve seen plenty of reviews from people who have been using it as their daily driver and none have mentioned any issues with bright light. What I’m hearing across the board is that Face ID works really really well. Of course it’s not perfect, but neither is Touch ID.

The thing that seems to crop up again and again in these reviews is Face ID and how inconsistent it is.
Exactly plus the fact that I have to constantly pick up the X to unlock it is a killjoy for me. So much for the apologists here claiming you can unlock it at a glance while it’s sitting on your desk. Something I routinely do while my 8+ is sitting on my desk or in meetings. Now I gotta go pre 5s style with putting my 6 digit unlock code if I got the X.

Agreed, its really the only major feature that the iPhone X has over the 8 (aside from the full screen) and if its consistent, problematic, its not a good move on their part.

First gen Touch ID wasn’t held to the high standards that Face ID will be held too as well.

These reviews make me so happy about my decision to get an iPhone 8 Plus. Inconsistent FaceID, tiny video when playing 16:9 content, unintuitive gestures...

It wasn't but I think the more popular apple is, the more they market their phones as a premium phone and the fact they're charging over a 1,000 for the phone. I think the expectations are such they they have to go get faceid right and I think that's correct. They want to be considered the best, then they better roll out the best.

When you’re replacing something that was already there that really worked for me,
And countless others, you WILL be held to the higher standard. When touchid first came out, it was competing against crappy slider type fingerprint readers and passcode entry.

Not certain about reading reviews from multiple outlets who have the phone for 24 hours, as I could imagine that most submitters are focused on trying to be first to report their findings only to meet the 24 hour deadline. What about a review after a few weeks, (jokingly) perhaps after somebody has accidentally dropped the phone and see how if it still works, or screen quality with broken glass? Seems like I can't go anywhere without noticing that somebody has a cracked screen. Seriously, I haven't viewed any of the videos, but I'm willing to bet that none of the reviews mention anything about call quality.

where are the issues that face ID is inconsistent? if it works 9/10 then I don't see the issue.

will it improve? yes

and chances are the models these people are reviewing might be test units.
