Micheal Fisher, 'the tech guy' and Steve Lichfield are the three most unbias Vloggers and the best by a country mile.
I wait to see these reviews before judging.

Yeah I usually wait for Michael Fisher and Mobiletechreview when it comes to really considering reviews.

Too many Apple die-hard and anti-Apple reviewers out there now, like the Verge which complained about the Notch and Face ID then ended with a "best phone ever" variant. Sure didn't sound best phone ever in the review to me lol

From what I've seen of reviews thus far, looks like this was a good pass. Here's to hoping for a refined design and improvements to FaceID for the 2018 devices.

Hmm. The Verge review leaves me less excited about the phone than I was before watching it. Maybe they can crank up the IR output via software to fix the sunlight issue? That seems like a legit downside to FaceID.
We'll see Friday, but the other thing (in pics at least) is that the phone looks thicker on the bottom than the top. The optical illusion created by the notch makes it look bottom-heavy.

The TechCrunch review seems to have been filmed at a sunny day at Disney’s California Adventure too and no mention of problems in the bright sun so seems inconsistent to what Nilay was saying.

Not sure why so many here seem to take his opinion in such a high light.

these folks are basically just regurgitating the same BS crap over and over again, as a macrumors reader I am not hearing anything that I didn't already know... How these people get so many hits is beyond me, who sits there and obsesses over the same thing over and over...

You just put it perfectly. Couldn’t agree more.

It’s always like this. I’m sure they’re more or less told what they can and can’t say. You have to wait until release for a wider range of opinions uncontrolled by Apple.

For example, Lisa from MobileTechReview is pretty genuine and honest. Notice that she and those like her don’t get early access? Doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything she says but on the whole I like her personality and style and think she’s pretty unbiased.

Because someone said something bad about it? What is the point of just glossing over any potential issues and just saying "WOW THIS IS GREAT, AND THIS IS GREAT WOW!"? You get nothing from that. Criticism is the only way to really improve, and just because a phone has one or two issues doesn't make it bad.

I love the sudden collective amnesia on here about the fact that touchID doesn't work if your fingers or the sensors are wet, dirty etc. Sounds to me like faceID will have a similar set of limited circumstances under which it won't work ideally: it's just they will be different to those under which touchID doesn't work well. It doesn't seem any more hassle to me to have to hold my phone a bit closer to my face than to have to wipe the phone or my hands down on a cloth.

How often are your hands wet when you use your phone? I personally can't remember the last time I had a failure of unlocking my phone with touchID.

The guy in the the verge review mentioned that the X doesn’t show tabs in landscape mode while in safari. Is there no way of bringing the tabs down at all? Sounds like an odd thing to leave out, especially since the 6/7/8 Plus has this.

I didn't say anywhere that issues should be glossed over, I just felt a review didn't fit with its summary. Take it easy on the morning coffee

Face ID is inconsistent. That's what I keep hearing. That's why I didn't pre-order this year and that's why I'll wait. Maybe until the Xs phone next year. Production problems with the parts that make up Face ID that resulted in production problems with the overall production of the phone. Not surprising that there are reviewers having problems with it. Hopefully they get it it perfected by next year, or succeed in putting fingerprint ID under the screen by then.

Works most of the times, many actually said it works all the times, so that is all good for me. TouchID was not perfect either. Wet fingers, harsh skins, etc.

You’re surprised that a small, mostly unnoticed outfit like MobileTechReview didn’t make the shortlist for review devices? Seriously? The list of tech writers, bloggers and vloggers is an exclusive group. Aside from that, a handful of YouTube personalities were invited to a preview event. Lisa from MobileTechReview doesn’t even register on the scene.

Again, I must be the exception. There must be wide swaths of people who are constantly using their phones with dripping wet hands because they keep using that as their defense for touchID not working sometimes. I don't remember the last time I used my phone with dripping wet hands.

If my face is wet will FaceID still work? LOL!

The X screen is smaller than the Plus phones.

This is more of a replacement for the 8 than the 8+.

Anybody go over the live wallpapers? All the ones I’ve watched nothing shown yet.

The reports of Apple compromising quality to produce a larger number of devices will lead to some devices having good FaceID and some having bad FaceID. And we can be sure that all these review units have been checked by a lot of people before going to the reviewers. So we'll have to wait for people who bought their phone before getting a clear picture. But if even the review-devices are inconsistent...

Well, they are obviously not identical then are they.

As an identical twin myself I find it difficult to believe family can’t tell. Twins usually try to differentiate themselves and the cruel effects of time work on everyone slightly differently.

Yeah here in Ireland I’ll take an authentication system which struggles a bit in direct sunlight over one which doesn’t like wet fingers ... we do get more rain that blue skies :)

I’m pretty sure people living in cold countries where they wear gloves for a good part of the year will also like faceid better.

The shift might not be the better compromise for somone living in California but people indeed tend ot forget Touch ID also has weak points.

I think I'm most surprised by those that, for whatever reason, think FaceID is going to launch on this phone and be perfect out of the gate for everyone for every single situation. Anyone remember when TouchID launched? Yep...

Let's be realistic here lol

I live in Florida, I'm a little worried about FaceID because of constant bright sunshine, sunglasses, shiny suntan lotion, glare off the water, and many hats. Hopefully with Apple being in California they considered those things but IDK man.
