I agree with waiting for nehalem. My powerbook continues to serve me well, and I can't justify getting a penryn mbp as it would be barely a bump from the sr mbp i could have bought 10 months ago.

Also, I expect there to be a case redesign sometime soon. I don't want to get a rev. A of that, or of a laptop with a new platform.

And like I said, my powerbook is serving me well. I just wish I could get the back to school deal with a nehalem mbp. At this point I doubt I'll even be able to get it in 2008.

Next suggested thread title ... Waiting for Godot MacBook Pros.

LOL!! Yes, I can see it now: Apple will be introducing the new Samuel Beckett signature series "Godot MacbookPro"... can you imagine the kind of advertising campaign this would generate?;)

Actually, it would be fitting wouldn't it?

Yeap. Personally, I'll be signing off of Montevina, and I'll be waiting up on Nehalem next year. My SR MacBook Pro is still top spec, a 4GB model with BTO 2.6GHz and 250GB BTO, so I should be able to hold off. Let's hope Nehalem doesn't get hot as quickly as the SR with wireless on, at which point it becomes a StoveBook Pro...

So.. anyone deviate from the thread and get the refresh? I'm personally happy with the fact that I can still claim mine is a new MBP (see my sig).. the only disappointment is my 256MB VRAM, but that's not too much of a prob, 256 is already very strong. I'm still holding out for a Nehalem MBP.

Didn't I hear that the nehalem chipset is probably going to be delayed to 2010?

I start uni in September, so if Montevina is going to be released in June kinda time, I might as well wait until then!

Add me to the list because I love my Air.

I have the first Macbook Pro 17" and still don't need to upgrade. The graphic card stay the same anyway.

it's funny... ever since apple went intel people have been saying that the next release will be the next big thing. First, it was "don't buy core duo; it's built on centrino, and just a stop-gap until merom." Then, "don't buy core 2 duo because it's on the napa chipset; it needs the SR chipset to really perform as it should." Then, it was "I'm waiting for Penryn because that will be a significant improvement over merom." Now, it's the same thing all over again.

But have you seen the benchmarks for nehalem?? It will make montevina look like a pentium 4! I'm waiting for that!

oh... and people have convinced themselves that there will be significant redesigns (case, latch, hard drive installation, form factor, keyboard, etc.) for every MBP release so far. And guess what... we still have the Al PB design, almost exactly.

Poor horse ...

I've just been waiting for one thing... An onboard GPU that will handle HD. That's the x4500 that will come with Montevina. Beyond that, the only improvement I'd be interested in is significantly lower power consumption.

might be a bit off-topic here but im having trouble keeping up with all these chips you guys are talking about -_- don't know which ones new or how which ones better than the other, anyone have any recommended sites to read about?

I already started the list, and with the recent frontpage story.... once again... let the wait begin!

I started with Wikipedia.

I think this year should have been the year of high definition, as how Steve Jobs tried to attempt it a few years ago. Now that the format war is settled, Apple computers can now start using HD without any worries

Guess what, everybody?

I, Elk, who has been on the Waiting for Penryn thread, am now waiting for Montevina! Why? Well...

In actuality, I am expected to get a MacBook Pro when college time comes, so I can afford the wait.

I was waiting for Penryn because I had thought I would get one by income tax time, but now our budget went out of wack and so I just became a sitting duck.

In conclusion, Montevina shall definitely be mine to buy once it becomes available!

[it shall be so much fun to see these people suffer :D]

After seeing the super small update this week, I'm going to have to test my patience till June...:apple:

Put me on the list!!!:D

Where do you people come up with the date JUNE? How sure are you its june and not july or august or september... Now is the time to buy if you need it, if you dont then enjoy another 6-8 months of waiting.

Meh - Montevina is STILL Penryn. Lots of changes, to be sure, but still a 45nm chip. Just bought a Penryn MBP - now i'll wait for the next die shrink or quad core laptop chips, whichever comes next!

Put me on the list.

I'm waiting to buy a Macbook Pro in June/July/August, when i return to school after the summerbreak.
I'm mostly waiting for at redesgn. A magnetish latch, a MBA-style keyboard and maybe a more slim casedesign, is more important to me than a speedbump.

Ohh yes, i really hope they give us a 1680*1050 resolution on the 15" MBP. That would be great.

I'm hoping the Montevina will bring me what i want, and then a huge speedbump for everyone else...

oops...forgot to say that I too am waiting for Montevina...not just because its the next best thing, but because i don't need a MBP today, I need it in Sept when I go to college, so I can wait!!!
