I brought SR 2.4Ghz MBP couple of weeks back and return it due to black stripes on screen.

Now eagerly waiting for Montevina platform because of their high FSB speed and DDR3 (lower power consumption) RAM

the higher FSB is gonna happen, but not DDR3, not even close this year. its too expensive, and its just not mainstream yet. Early next year for that.

I really dont think that i can wait that long. I have been waiting for the past 3 month and the past 3 tuesdays not sleeping skipping class for the damn update. If they dont update by the end of march or a new 100% that will lead to a update to the new chipset then i will just buy myself a Vaio or something.

why not just buy the current models? IMHO the montevina isnt a huge upgrade enough to wait and rather wait for the nehalem quad core laptops, preferrably rev. b.

correct me if i am wrong

if Montevina uses intel mobile45 express chipset, it will supports DDR3 RAM.

May be MB comes up with DDR2 RAMS , but if have some $ we can upgrade RAM to DDR3

a second-generation Intel Core 2 Duo (code-named Penryn) 45nm processor with 1066 MT/s FSB with clock speeds ranging from 2.26 GHz to 3.06 GHz, also featuring SSE4.1 support, which adds 47 new instructions to SSSE3. It is planned to consume no more than 29W, compared to Merom's and first-generation Penryn's 34W TDP.

I thought the current penryn mbp models have SSE4.1 instruction sets already just the montevina will have the SSE4.1 as well just that it will run in 29W instead of the 34W? And Nehalem will bring the last 7 instruction sets?

Well unless there actually is a major case redesign, I might wait for Montevina just so I can get a current gen macbook pro for cheap. With all the buzz about iphones I'm beginning to wonder whether there will be a major design change or whether WWDC will focus on the iphone.

phones are so overrated!

I have a feeling that there is a good chance the new Montevina MBP's will arrive on June 3, a tuesday. Why?

Montevina is scheduled for release at Computex Taipei 2008, which will take place on June 3 - 7, 2008. So most manufacturers will go public with their new Montevina based notebooks there.

Add me to the list ... where's the list?

The title for this thread reads:
"List: Waiting for Montevina MacBook Pros"

Can you add me to the list, with a caveat that I'll only be buying if the case design and the graphics card is updated ...

But wait! Where's the list?

Most MacRumors threads along the lines of "The Official Waiting for 'Product X' Thread / List" have a frequently updated list of users (normally as the first or second post) who proclaim they'll be buying the new product on release.

How come there isn't one for this thread? Is there some other official Montevina waiting list thread out there that I've missed? Otherwise could the OP edit his first post and add those users who are gonna be buying? I'm curious to know who else is officially waiting with me! :)

I have to buy it this summer unfortunately... I'd like to wait for nehalem but just not an option.

well I think I'm through waiting with the Montevina delay announcement. The current MBPs a slick machine. I'll be happy with it.

Count me in on waiting. I currently own a 2.4GHz Mid 2007 Macbook Pro and I want to upgrade.

The Montevina delay just means I'll buy a Macbook Air first and then a new Macbook Pro. :D

i am currently in the market for a MBP (never thought i would say that when i first saw a "switcher" ad 2 years ago!) and wasnt going to wait in the first place, but the montevina delay helped reassure me

Blast this is a hard decision for me:

A. I could get the current MBP in a month by my birthday and have it to use ALL summer! I still love the current design.

B. Wait for the next model. What if I don't like the new design. But maybe it'll be better looking? But I don't really want an air styled design. I like the curved rectangle look of the MBPs and MBs. However, regardless of how amazing the new design may look, what about all the issues there could be. The last thing I want to do is be fixing my computer all the time in college.

I really don't think I personally will notice a performance update with Montevina and I don't think the specs will change much. People keep saying it will be thinner, but here's why I disagree:

1. Mac laptops already have heating issues. Make the thing any smaller and it'll overheat (BAD!).
2. The nvidia 8600M is about the best that can fit and the 8800M is larger and creates more heat. Apple needs to future proof itself. If they get too ahead of themselves and make every thing super thin, there will be no room for extra features. Its better to have more space for extra features, than make an already very thin laptop thinner. Honestly, anyone who thinks 1" is too thick needs to take a shopping trip through the PC isle and compare.
3. if they make it thinner, it may resemble the Air's style (all curvy and such). While the air looks amazing, on a larger laptop, all the weird curves make not look right and may make the computer look too complicated and I associate Apple's design with simple. Simple usually is better. What is it I hate about the look of every PC laptop? All the stuff. Too many designs, to busy, and too clunky. I love that when you close a MB or MBP the whole thing is symetric and smooth. Also I'd rather have a solid laptop than one that resembles a wedge from the side (slopes from 1" to .5" or something)

But its a hard decision. I don't want to buy now then see the new one and wish I'd waited. Yet if the new is nothing special, I'll wish I'd bought already.

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR 2 CENTS!!!! Also does anyone have evidence for a redesign this summer. What if they wait until Nahelem. or will Nahelem premier on the Montevina Platform. Also this mumbo jumbo of the Air raising the bar for Apple's designs. HOW? THe air is a bare minimum computer. You can't create a notebook like the Air and fit the Pro's specs. So what of the air besides keyboard, magnetic latch, and bigger trackpad would they put? Make it curvier?

Also I'm quite an impatient person. For the last moth practically all I can think about is the MBP! If I wait till June I'll have wasted SO much time reading these forums.

Haha omg you have just said EVERYTHING I've been thinking and wondering haha omg it's like a clone of me just made a post! All i can think about are the MBP's too! Wow this is crazy lol. I'm in the exact same situation!

I had to buy Penryn today, and if Montevina's announced / released around WWDC I'll be able to "trade up" to the comparable model at no charge, say Apple. Otherwise I expect I'll hold onto this for at least a year, updates or not.

The only things previously holding me back were hoping for 1680x1050 on 15", a magnetic latch, chiclet keyboard (after using MacBooks for two years, I was accustomed) and perhaps a larger trackpad. No guarantee we'll see that in an update...

Edit: Oh, and a move to a new GPU would be nice...

Bad news guys, there's a delay!!

Intel's fifth-generation Centrino platform, previously code-named Montevina and now known as Centrino 2, has been delayed due to technical issues and certification problems.

The platform, originally scheduled to launch next week at COMPUTEX, will now begin to ship on July 14th, with widespread availability of Centrino 2-based systems expected in August.

Centrino 2 provides support for Penryn, Intel's 45nm Core 2 processors, and features GMA X4500 graphics technology with HDCP support as well as optional WiMAX.

The delays are said to be a result of certification issues with the Wi-Fi wireless standard and technical issues with the chipset itself.

Intel spokesperson, Elvin Ong, said:

"We are taking the extra days to address two issues that require us to re-screen our chipsets with integrated graphics, and attend to some terms-and-conditions mistakes while filing and testing our wireless antennas."

The delay might prove to be just a minor setback for Intel, but then, it could also pave the way for AMD to make waves with its forthcoming "Puma" mobile platform.

Either way, we're going to have to wait a bit longer for those bundled SSDs.

I'm just waiting to see if Apple releases a new MBP form factor by WWDC (even if it uses current parts inside). If not, or if I am not impressed with the new FF, then I'll pick up a current MBP.

I bought in April

I bought my Macbook Pro in April. After waiting nearly years to buy my first Mac notebook. I've always had desktops. When I saw the February refresh for the current Macbook Pro's, I decided it was time.

I would have bought a Powerbook, if the G5 would have worked.

Sign me up.

I've been waiting for a MacBook Pro since last summer and even before. For me it's the redesign - just can't bring myself to buy a five year old case, no matter how powerful it may be.

Here's to Air curves and Blu Ray in June.
