So from my point of view, this is what someone Tim Cook's age thinks is a cool viral way to get his streaming service trending on social media.

Netflix's shows are hyped organically through word of mouth. Someone on your Facebook watches it, tells you the show is awesome, you watch it, and you pass it on to your coworkers, etc....

Haunting of Hill House is a good example. Drops with little to no fanfare, my brother saw it and told me I had to watch it, watched the first episode, got hooked, etc...
You’ve hit the nail on the head. All of this seems to be trying too hard. There’s nothing organic about this.
 
Interest level hit bottom from Steven Spielberg on. Face placements don't help when content is cheesy.
