Yikes, yikes, big y i k e s... Subscriptions all over the place... also LOL at Konami  wth are you thinking Apple? That's not something you should be proud of.

Corporate greed, corporate greed, corporate greed that's all I see in this keynote. O_O WOW they even mentioned Goldman Sachs... Is this real life?

People who play video games don't want subscription based services, you dolts... Is Apple just oblivious to the gaming news these past 2 years? And they've already let us know they don't actually care for games, when they killed Game Center... Man if they bring it back just to make achievements relevant again (which they WILL need to, if they have any hope of having this work), that'd be rich. And sad.

This is all sad. Today is the day Apple loses it's soul, its seems. If there is no hardware, that is the case.

"Hurr hurr suscription and free to play games have ruined gaming on our platform, so we're making them ALL subscription based!! (or trying to) Give us som dat monneeh!" eeek So much bloat for people who don't want or need it. Apple Music is obstructive as it is...

One day, some Exec will wake up, and realize people aren't so dumb, and have realized paying those $9.99 a month per subscription to Netflix, Disney, Apple, HBO, etc.. etc.. All add up, and none provide actual ownership for their money. And this subscription thing is not this glorious money tree they all seem to see. It's a mirage. Unless of course... people really ARE that dumb...

The amount of people that are willing and able to afford dozens of subscriptions for each and every single thing in life is limited.

The issue isn't paying $10 for the one streaming service that delivers you all of your content, that would be a good deal, the issue is that you'll have to pay more and more subscriptions because every company wants a piece of the promising new cake of constant subscription-based income.

What companies forget is that the reason subscription-based flat rate offerings were successful in the first place is that consumers were fed up with fragmentation and wanted an easy one stop solution.

that was by far the worst ever apple event i have ever seen in my life, tim cook is a tool, that was WAY too much cringe for just about anyone, and I hope he gets fired tomorrow. Apple should be embarrassed.

The. Guy. Was.

Crying.

Apple Arcade is probably a smart move. The news subscription, Not so much. Magazines are dead. And people will always try to find what they need free online. Apple TV +, are we living on the same planet. Only feel-good shows and dramas. Sorry to say. Have you been to the movies lately? It's not what people are watching.

Apple need to lower their prices and return to become a people company again. Sure R&D costs money. But lets face it. You are raising your prices too much. People can't afford it. For the first time ever since the launch of the iPhone. I didn't buy the new model. And Im sure Im not the only one. I love apple products and I very much would like to afford to do that in the future. I very much miss Steve Jobs.

Ok...so basically Apple has become a video production / content company, which is available solely through their subscription service. I this correct? Essentially not competing with anyone in the streaming services..with respect to existing content..(Netflix).

What will be interesting is this: Will apple open the platform in a few years to other production companies to stream their respective shows..independent productions... ?

I feel like this keynote will be the single most 'U.S. only' keynote of all time.
It a shame, really. Apple seems very intent on become a service company in a world where hardware purchases are drying up. They are losing a lot of potential revenue and alienating a lot of customers by not getting this stuff out to other countries as soon as possible.

Even the largest and greatest companies can get overly involved with so many different areas that they lose focus on what made them great. I hope Apple doesn’t get lost in so many different services that it loses focus on making great hardware.
They haven’t made great hardware since 2012. They are trying everything to see what sticks these days but forget their core business.

Who comes up with such a list of subscriptions...the way I see it Apple introduced a entire list of subscriptions....a one subscription take cares all type of Model could have worked for them but this is a mess.

For my entertainment purpose: I need books, games, movies, youtube, and music.

Hence, no matter what I keep kindle unlimited, xbox game pass, netflix, google music, and youtube premium.

I love the news+ app. $9.99 for access for almost every single magazine at the newsstand, that's insane. That's less than the cost of a single paperback issue and it's for my whole household.

I'm still trying to decide if the titanium credit card was a joke a or not.

Remember when Steve jobs humorously showed an iPod with a rotary dial during the original iPhone keynote? That's what it felt like.

Key market is Millennials
Let's make a credit card with Goldman Sachs that most of them won't be able to be approved for!

Tim Cook must think everyone that uses tech makes $250,000 a year.

Please bring back Angela Ahrendts. If that’s the future and mindset of Apple, she looks like the hard working gal in contrast in hindsight.

You could feel the cloud they have their heads stuck in together.

Let’s hope the :apple:Arcade gal gets it right with her service, looked like the only spark in that otherwise appropriately darkened room.

Two analysts (Ed Lee/Dan Ives) on CNBC stated earlier, "Major shot across the bow by Apple in gaming...Netflix for gaming", among other superlatives, they could be right but I'll leave that up to the gaming people here.

As I said before. Apple Arcade is the EA Origin-Access of Apple. But with even less content. There is nothing particularly new about the service. It likely won't pull in people addicted to Freemium Gacha games. It won't convince "gamers" in the console and PC space to shift to Apple products. And especially in the PC space there is open and active hostility toward anything Mobile, they've had a bad run of developers dropping PC titles and going to "mobile" markets. Then there is there the Epic Game Store (the new Not-Steam), which is taking fire for "Exclusive" deals they're cutting.

If Apple wants to be taken seriously, they need a Gaming Mac. On money par, and delivering the performance spec of current generation PC rigs. And they need to pay Microsoft for DirectX.

Oprah, seriously ?

You know they are coming for your money when they hire the queen of greed to endorse a product .
She don't give it away for cheap, uhhhnmoonooo !

Wow, a bunch of Apple Losers plague this forum nowadays, it's pretty sad. I love the news+ app. $9.99 for access for almost every single magazine at the newsstand, that's insane. That's less than the cost of a single paperback issue and it's for my whole household.
I haven't paid for a magazine in the last 20 years. Why would I start?

So, in summary:
  • Apple is aggregating news form various sources, preventing their ads from tracking you, charging a fee and calling it a service.
  • Apple is essentially making their own branded credit card using Goldman Sachs as the issuing bank, but you can only use it where Apple Pay is available, otherwise you are out of luck.
  • Apple is setting up a "first of its kind" gaming service that is available on "all of your devices" that only works on Apple branded products and sounds suspiciously similar to what Google announced a week or so ago, except Google's version works on any device that can run Google Chrome.
  • Apple isn't setting up their own true TV service, instead they are aggregating third party TV streaming services, many of which are massively overpriced anyway and saying you only need to subscribe to what you want. Well with the services they are using, I end up with news and sports content that I don't want to be paying for. I truly want to be able to build my own bundle
  • Then they are adding their own original content as yet another subscription cost.

Hmm, Apple I think you have officially lost it.
You are not out of luck with the credit card if they don't take Apple Pay, there is a physical card as well.

Apple has some work to do with arcade, that is for sure.

Depending on the quality of the games, the support (or lack) of MFI controller support, and the inclusion of major franchises (such as Halo, Red Dead Redemption, Doom), I could be a subscriber. Although they pushed the exclusive nature of the game on the service, I don’t need them to be exclusive to apple devices.

Hopefully apple has some killer apps in the works for the arcade service.

What I like the company has going for them is their processor. Apple's processors are so good, but they just need a bit more RAM and to allow developers have more free reign to tap into the A series capabilities. As of now, I think we're only scratching the surface.

The Nintendo Switch is an awesome portable product, but the A12 processor is probably better than what they have on it. Yet, the games aren't going to be as great as Nintendo's library. Imagine FIFA 19 as the Switch edition on a smartphone?

What was actually released today? For some reason I was thinking that 12.2 would release keynote features today. I’ll pass on the Apple News+ and Apple TV+ Subscriptions but I am interested in the Apple credit Card. I keep mine paid off each month but I like the features in the keynote.

Question about the Apple Credit Card... did I understand them to say it’s a MasterCard? I’ve only ever used Visa for travel. It’s most likely changed now but Mastoercard used to be excepted less for international travel.

I liked the credit card idea, although I really just use a debit card with Apple Pay. I will probably get the subscription b/c it's much cheaper than the WSJ subscription alone and nice to have some magazines to browse while in airports without buying something.

But the last segment with the "stars" and their cheesy, touchy/feely shows; Oprah with "woke" book reviews (seriously?) and cringe worthy documentaries;then seeing Tim Cook crying like a teenage girl over "getting to meet" the celebrities; gives us the essence of why Apple is losing ground as a pioneer in technology.
