If he buys a new TV he wouldn't need an AppleTV. My LCD streams Netflix, vudu, etc and has widgets. Also has DNLA to stream from my home server.

This is really a niche product.

They will sell 2 million this year.

$99 is not that impressive of a price for what you get.... I mean i can stream netflix and crap from my computer with my ps3 and my xbox.. with my ps3 i still have a hd and i still have a BD player?!

So again 99 isnt that impressive for a hub..

You bought your PS3/XBox360 for $99?

They aren't appealing to a gamer. Think about it.

Streaming works fine, i have no issues with it the vast majority of the time and my ISP sucks.

The trouble is i don't want to rent. I have kids. They watch the same shows over and over and over. Apple TV saves me money because after they bought 20-30 shows they slow down the buying and start watching the reruns. That doesn't save me a dime if i have to keep renting.

Can i still buy all the same shows on itunes? if so, why not on the Apple TV? Can't i have a choice still or is this part of the price deal they made with abc and fox?

If you want to buy and stream to the appletv, I don't think from the stevenote that anything will prevent it. Buy it on your main computer via iTunes, and stream it to the appletv.

Problem solved.

Wow, the way Steve was leading up to the intro of the band that would be playing, I thought he was going to say they'd resurrected John Lennon and George Harrison from the dead and the Beatles were going to be performing.

What good is Netflix if you dont live in the US? Apple TV needed apps so that content providers all over the globe could provide content e.g. BBC iPlayer in the UK would make this a big seller at whatever Apple convert $99 to.

as soon as I saw coldplay I turned it off. maybe this makes Steve and the other 50-somethings "relevant"

Millions of HDMI ready sets already exist. Spend $99 or buy > $500 for a new HDTV with HDMI. Decisions, decisions.

Then add the UI with the Apple box compared to what you get on this new HDTV.

People will take $99

Yeah, I wouldn't buy an Apple Tv for Netflix. I have every console, an iPhone 4, and 3G iPad. All of those already get Netflix haha. I was going to get one if it had apps, but now I'm just getting a nano to use as a watch! :)

You can buy the same shows on iTunes, and then stream them to your TV though the aTV. Pretty much the same thing. The new aTV doesn't have a hard drive, I'm assuming that's why you can't buy through it.

Edit: Also, the new nano looks ugly IMO. I think it'd look awesome if they made the front of it just the screen and the black border, and made the back colored iPad-style aluminum.

No mention of resolution, no metion of formats it will support from your computer, no mention of apps! so it's a 99 netflix box which I own 4 of now with consoles and blu-ray. Not to mention i use VUDU which wipes the floor with all these companies 1080p streaming no stutter in 5.1!!! for 4-5.00 a rental!

I wanted more .99 is a good price point but they could have done SOOOOOOOOOOO much more with it. No specs even given..

I will continue using my WD PLus Live..

Of course there's no stutter on Vudu 1080p! It pre-downloads before you start watching. LOL
