For the Apple TV - why are they not allowing you to "buy" media?

It doesn't necessarily mean the Apple TV needs storage - you should be allowed to buy media through Apple TV with all your media stored on the iTunes server and you can basically download / watch the stuff you have bought without paying a fee everytime and have it streamed on demand to your Apple TV.

I'm guessing the way around that limitation, for time being, is to purchase on another device or through iTunes itself. Steve said you can stream from your computer (without needing to sync) so you then should be able to access and play purchased content. I am curious if the streaming is limited to itunes content only or any network content. That would be a big blow to boxee and a huge benefit to me.

This sucks, I currently do 100% of my movie buying with the AppleTV, now i'm going to have to go back to buying DVD's and ripping them and get a Blu-Ray drive to start ripping HD.

Or buy them in iTunes on your computer.

Horrible, Horrible event.

****ing Nano is now going to die. Horrible small ass touchscreen. It's just a shuffle without buttons.

iPod Classic is a very upsetting thing. This is what brought Apple back to life.

iPod touch is the only bright spot in the event. Even so, the price points are not attractive.

Apple TV....no interest. BluRay wins and is still preferred.

iTunes? WTF? I want better performance not another socializing piece of ****. This is now iTwitterMusic.

Horrible Horrible Horrible. Steve Jobs even got mixed up with what is the nano and shuffle....

Just for you guys who dropped the stream when the live music started, Mr. Jobs just came back on stage, "Now for one more very big thing...."

This Apple TV UI is really close to Microsoft's UI's lately.

Yah... the new hybrid mode in iTunes looks kinda familiar.... See Attach..

Heck yeah! I don't see how all these people hate Coldplay but at least it's making my stream crisper by them turning it off. Thanks haters!

It's the least we can do.

On the rest of the announcements: nothing Earth shattering, so it seems that the live streaming is probably here to stay rather than being a special exception?

Definitely not a fan of the new Nano, at all. Also, hope with iTunes 10 iTunes doesn't still blow on Windows.

EDIT: So the classic is discontinued?

Forgive me if this has already been answered...
Does the new AppleTV support 1080P? I don't think I saw any mention of that.

If not...I'm fine with my current one.

Nope..no 1080p.

But I think I'm starting to get why.

With all the reliance on Airplay for pushing content from idevice to idevice, this is all wireless. You do NOT want to have millions of home users trying to stream 1080p content. It will look horrendous, and people will get furious because of the network problems.

720p logistically works.
