I do enjoy the overreactions by people thinking this one was disappearing.
AppleTV $99 in the US, £99 in the UK
Apple store now shows the taxes and import duties to help justify the pricing. Smart move by Apple.
Well I thought the event was awesome. The new nano looks fantastic, as well as the touch and shuffle. And I WILL have anTV in four weeks. Such an improvement.
You all complain entirely too much.
I know it is weird how many people are comparing the Apple TV to devices that cost 2x-10x more than the new AppleTV will cost.
Comparing it to a Roku is fair. I have a roku and I love it. I want a second one, but I will get a AppleTV, because it does more of what I want.
Also not everyone just has one tv, or perhaps they want to move devices around. I am happy people have PS3s and TVs that stream netflix. That is not really the point.
Ok store is backup - I know Apple uses its own exchange rates but since when has $99 = £99!

For streaming media from a Mac or PC: iTunes 10 or later; iTunes Store account for Home Sharing

* MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
* Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
So no MKV support, VOB, Or some AVI formats sorry WD PLus is SOOOOOOOOO much better a deal for PC streaming

It will most likely get a 'silent' update some time, or at least a price drop as the components get cheaper/demand moves to the touch... I guess.
Hope the quality is better than this stream. Worst quality streaming video I've seen in a long time.

Just watched the Apple Media event live (thanks Apple for not making me wait). Couple of things 1. if people missed the buttons on the shuffle dont you think they will now miss them on the nano. 2. On ping can the charts not be by most downloaded but by most played. 3. Why can you not buy from tv and have it download on the computer with the associated iTunes account. That is my only grief.

Roll your eyes. You thought it'd be cheaper in the U.K with the VAT?
At 960x720, that's just a hair above VGA quality.
Sounds to me its JUST like the last-gen Nano video. You can snag a video frame and call it a "picture."
This event was focused on CONSUMING content, not CREATING content.
I would have considered the
TV if it let me store and organize my home videos (even if they're stored on a NAS) but I was disappointed to see it's now rental only. (Ironically that's the exact point in the keynote my connection was lost)
The Apple TV is basically a rental box, what's the point? I'll wait for the Boxee Box which does that and a gazillion things more. And the Boxee Box IS 1080p.
