Why would anyone buy a 1.4ghz laptop LOL.
Whats next an 800MHZ?

And if anyone buys a mac book pro now they are nuts knowing the air has a better resolution. That will be the next upgrade to the pro's.

When Jobs tells the people that these are the best things they ever created people buy. And sure there is an Apple logo on the machine, don´t worry about the tech inside.
It must be good if it is Apple.
We will see how long they can ride the wave with their hype and selling everything they want to the growd.......

It´s Apple it is good is the Mantra :)

iWeb 09????

I don't know if it's just taking time for the pages on Apple.com to refresh but it looks like iWeb and iDVD didn't get any love at all. Understandable for iDVD (although I would love for it to crash less) but disappointing if iWeb has not moved forward at all.

Also, where's iWork? I want smoky builds. And other new stuff.

cool, os x distro on flash

looks like os x is being distributed on flash drive - was that the case on the previous version of the air?

2 GB of Ram is crap.

Disappointing in that one respect, for sure.

Is the OS being housed in a permanent memory unit somewhere?

Man, the posts and replies are landing faster than we can reply. Obviously a lot of impassioned people. On Jobs' health/appearance. People on post- liver transplant meds are going to have up and down days. Overall, he looked OK, IMO. I wouldn't read to much into it.

It's sort of funny when people say "who would buy the new MBA's?", Maybe the people who don't want an iPad (Touchscreen) and have no real use for the MacBook pros/Macbook (Weight wise). (Although getting a Macbook would be a little better because of the specs/price is the same)

It's not going to be for everyone, ESPECIALLY people in Media. The MBA isn't a good machine for me (Music/editing), but it's probably great for someone on the go and need a keyboard constantly. AND it's extremely light.

The man didn't DARE mention iDVD.... the ONLY thing they can add to it is Blu-ray support.

And Steve-o ain't having it. Apple, out of my house and my workplace.

:apple:

i think we just saw how apple will implement widgets on the iphone/ipad - it will be a separate screen w/ all the widgets on it - just like they're doing it on os X Lion. - it would be cool if we could set the phone to open to the widget page (sort of like andriod) and swipe left to get apps and right to get to search. what do you guys think?

Nope. Never bought one of the things. But I have watched more than one of my dumb colleagues lose everything, and more than once.

Maybe all of them have an issue with dropping things. Good enough to put me off.

And cars have insurance, genius. Mac warranty cover droppage much?

Can you even GET droppage insurance for a laptop?

:apple:

I typically base purchases on my needs, not if someone else has/had issues dropping things. I own a smartphone...but based on your logic I probably shouldn't have bought one, because I've seen a number of people dropping them...

Actually, you can get that kind of insurance for a laptop if your insurance company offers it...GENIUS. Last I checked, my car warranty doesn't cover damage that I cause. So why would Apple cover someone's inability to hold something?

the new air does come with an interesting feature...

"Software Reinstall Drive"

Yeah, I noticed that too. Good riddance to the CD/DVD install I say.

It's called Marketing 101. Historically better for sales than "Hey, check out our new computer. Kinda sucks, not as good as some people think it should be, but maybe you could buy it anyway"

Epic Fail

I got excited when he said 'One more thing...'

I was literally jumping up and down when he said "13.3 inches."

My heart sank when he said "Core 2 Duo."

I threw up my hands and walked away when he said "2GB memory."

The lighter and thinner is awesome. The more battery life is awesome. 128GB of flash storage is awesome. C2D with 2GB RAM is an epic failure. I've been waiting for 9 months for an MBA with 4 gigs. I guess I will wait another 9 months for a lighter, thinner MBP with flash storage, 4GB RAM, a decent processor (Sandy Bridge?), and OS X Lion. Here's to hoping my 2006 black MacBook lasts to its 5th birthday without a hard drive failure.
