I am curious if it will have the silent laminated display or the drumlike one from the Air 1 and iPad 2017. :) If it will be laminated, I say byebye to my Air2 and Apple can have my Money :)

Are there already the dimensions of the new iPad? Especially the thickness would be interesting. Near to iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro = laminated. If it will be thik as the Air 1 and iPad '17, you will get Pencil-Drumclasses ...

Kind of disappointed the new iPad didn't clock in at $299 or less for regular consumers. I was looking forward to $259 educational and $289 consumer based on the rumors.

Oh well. I'll probably pick one up anyway since I need a new consumption device. I regularly see the 2017 iPad at B&H for $289, and it will likely be even lower following this refresh until stock sells out, so it will be a decision as to whether the A10 and pencil support is worth at least $40 more. Maybe they will bump up the base storage to compensate.

It doesn’t matter if A10 mops floor with every single Android tablet. Android tablet is dead... You aren’t compare with Android Tablet.

If this iPad is designed for educational purposes, then this is pretty much out of questions. School with limited budget will look elsewhere.

Otherwise, this iPad is just an annual update anyway... It just happen to have pencil support.

I have both iPad Pros. Still consider them overpriced. Why? If you factor in the price of Apple Smart Keyboard, Pencil, you are getting to laptop price. If Windows laptop do much more than iPad could ever do, then how this is not overpriced?

You're 100% right Android tablets are dead. And this is why Android Apps are garbage compared to iOS. The only platform that makes sense for so many high-end or productivity Apps is on a tablet where you have enough screen real estate to do anything. This is the market that the iPad owns (and also improves iPhone Apps because of the trickle down effect).

Now Google is trying to convince people that running Android Apps on Chrome is a good idea. Why? Android is useless for tablet Apps so there's no good software to bring over to another tablet-sized device (Chromebook).

Why would you buy iPad Pros (2 of them apparently) if they're overpriced?

Why do I get the feeling customers outside of education are more excited as they can now get an iPad with Pencil support for $329. I don’t see how this really moves the needle in education unless there are more MDM type stuff not announced on stage?

This is what an educator from the UK was hoping for. 0-9 announced on stage today.

Yep!

This product announcement might impact affluent school markets, but not average struggling school markets as is most of the case in this day and age.

WHAT IS MISSING is a way to manage ipads in larger numbers in a cost-effective and efficient way. I work in IT in a large private school. We have three ipad cards that have not been used in years because it became a full-time job to manage updates, software installations, etc., and the 3rd party ways to manage them were too expensive. We currently have no plans to replace these iPad 2s and have been on Chromebooks for a few years. $25/device for the lifetime of the device to manage and its all web-based management.

Apple, we would love to use all of this. But if we have to manage dozens of iPads individually, it's not going to happen. Whole districts have bailed on iPads for management reasons alone. It's a major piece if apple is really going to be successful in education.

So it looks like the two big announcements (that they went over quickly) are Schoolwork and Classroom.

I'd really like to know how the management side of things works as they didn't really talk much about it (perhaps that's for the other sessions going on today).

Plus I would imagine trying to get multiple districts to agree to the same tech implementations (for purchasing leverage) would be like herding feral cats.

I'm a pretty clam person, but you people have me yelling at my laptop!

Don't be a defeatist. Did Linus Torvalds give up and say - 'I can't build better OSs for servers'. No!

The world needs an 'open education system' - that takes/borrows/steals all the good things you want to keep from Apple and Google, and makes it open so that students benefit. Let Apple and Google make all the hardware they want, just make sure that hardware works with that open education system. Apple and Google will still make their money via planned obsolesce.

The crime is putting education's future in the hands of some corporation:

His words not mine: said:
9:02 am Cook: "This is something only Apple can do."

Bull crap.

Does the new iPad have the same unlaminated panel? I'd totally pick one up if the screen was similar to the iPad Pro (at least in terms of glass thickness).

"This is something only Apple can do."

What, build a $300 computer for students and expect educators to sign off on it when it doesn’t have a keyboard? lmao. Being this stupid and delusional IS something only Apple can do.
Seems to be working pretty well from a sales and profit perspective, no?

People love Apple products and Apple OS, period. People don’t want an Acer tablet or Chrome ok, at least not one they have to buy with their own money.

Come back when Apple release iPad sales.

If Apple cared so deeply about education as his platitudes claim then Cook would have announced new Macs, something far more useful to students than the new toy he just did.

Yep. Apple is dead in education if this is all they got.
