I see no reason to own that AND my full-size iPad at this time.

They didn't really add much to the 4th iPad. I hope a 5th is coming out next spring with actual advancements. Then I'll bump up from my iPad3.

Yeah this is just an "S" upgrade. They didn't change the weight or thinness or the design. I'm assuming the 5th gen will be out in October 2013. This is great news for those that upgrade every two generations and bought an iPad 3. Instead of waiting 24 months, we only get to wait 17.

Well, that's what people are like. We're competitive. Some need to have the nicest car, or the biggest house, or the most expensive watch/shoes; and some need to have the newest gadget.

I could laugh at them for being silly, but I'm probably as obsessive as them about different things, so there's no point.

Considering the surface pro will go into the $800-900 range (and thats before the keyboard), its gonna be interesting to see if the "new gadget" crowd are gonna start throwing their ipads away come January.

wonder when the fifth Gen iPad will come out now.. next year this time? six months from now? Honestly what I want is a redesigned iPad or a retina iPad mini, neither of which were available today.. but I'm not sure if this means iPad is on a different product release cycle now (holiday season or springtime still)..

Yeah we expect our technology to last for at least year. People are pissed because it devalues the product, especially those that plan to sell on at near the buying price a year later. People expect Apple products to hold their value, well the value has gone a heck of a lot quicker than any other Apple product in the past.

And yes it is obsolete, because they don't make it anymore. It's just disappeared from the inventory. iPad 2 is still here.

What innovation? Everything one or more of the following: higher resolution, thinner, lighter, faster, remove optical drive, change connection port

Agreed. I think the word innovation/innovative has lost a lot of its meaning. Further - I think the reuse of the word over and over is more about assuring stockholders and naysayers who are keeping a watchful eye on Apple post-Steve in regards to Apple being able to keep the torch burning and bringing innovative products to the market.

My .02 is that these are indeed natural progression products and spec bumps. Great ones mind you. But I wouldn't use the word innovative. It seems hyperbolic to me.

Apple should have priced it at $225 to $275 to go up against the kindle HD fire and the nexus.

i think even 250 would have been reasonable....

but the nexus will be priced 130 less than the ipad mini..

We did not get screwed. There is no contract when buying a product, even implied. Buy it if you want it or wait or don't buy it at all..
