In all seriousness, what have they been doing for 1.5 years? Retooling the same iPhone with some upgraded specs?

Now I don't know why they passed the June announcement- Unless it was simply for iOS5; and in that case they need more developers at HQ to stick to the rollouts.

I'm happy. I like the form factor of the 4 but wil rejoice in the better camera and faster processor. I can't wait as I'm putting my unlocked original iPhone to rest!:D

It's pretty obvious to me that the iphone 4 is only being sold in 8 gb because it's almost exactly the same as the 4S, and people would just buy it instead of there were 16+GB models available.

Even Apple acknowledges that this update is weak.

I wonder how much an unlocked iPhone 4S 64GB will cost?
Not that it will stop me from buying one.

I don' t know about others, but I really like the iPhone x, iPhone xs, iPhone x+1, iPhone x+1s upgrade path.

Because they are just too expensive to upgrade every year.
And the design is too good too change it after a year. I really had too stop myself from buytin a 4 eventhough I have 3GS cause I really love the current design, I wouldn' t have liked the teardrop desing anyway.

Heh. Surprised they didn't release the "5". Whatever. I don't really care about the form-factor, the 4's design is fine. A SLIGHTLY bigger screen would've been nice. But, the dimensions of the 4 are pretty much perfect for me anyway. So, I'm not going to nitpick.

The increase in horsepower under the hood, the GSM/CDMA functionality, the nice new camera, iCloud, iTunes match, 64gb of storage (FINALLY!) and all the improvements of iOS5 all leave me pretty excited. And if that Siri thing actually works well enough to be useful (unlike every piece voice recognition software I've ever tried thus far), that's some nice, futuristic icing on the cake. I'll be grabbing one to replace my old Nokia.

This is the first rational comment on this thread so far. Apple really invested in making the IP4 better and they did. The thinner/teardrop hardware can wait for 2012, this IP4S will be massive seller.

There must be some serious design / manufacturing problems for apple to NOT announce the iphone 5.

soo to sum it all up

we get an iPhone 4 with android features and a underclocked A5 that can run games i'll never play. AWESOME

no nfc
no lte
no innovation all they did was catch up (processor, camera, video)

THIS happens when someone is on top of their game, it'll bite them in the "4"ass at some point

Why the hell are people mad about the missing iPhone 5? This is the same pattern that followed with the 3G and 3GS, and will continue with the 5 and the 5S.

People are silly nowadays.

Because Apple hit a grand slam instead of a home run with the iPhone 4. I think people were hoping for more.

But I agree, the 3GS got me pumped when it was first unveiled. I remember thinking to myself, "Nice! Same sweet design, faster processor, and better camera!"

iPhone 4 still has best design on the planet and the 4S adds a faster processor and better camera. But I don't have the same level of excitement because of last year's grand slam.

It's not what I wanted, but it's what I expected.

However, I have a true question. When will the next iPhone come out? I'm not trying to be a smart ***, I really want to know. If it's back to the traditional June, I'll wait and go for the new one. If it's October 2012, I may get the 4S.

I swear I read this exact same post last year with the iPhone 4. (Not you, nor am I trying to be a douche.)

I would hope Apple goes back to a summer release, but it could be anywhere from June to October.

No one knows but I'm guessing apple is switching the release dates into the fall for iPhone so they can have the better availability of the product when it comes out, like with this iPhone 4S. Also, with xmass so close it really rides the holiday wave very strong.

Wow.. 3.5 inch display still..

I'm on an original Motorola Droid with 3.7 inch display and there is no way in hell I'd want to go any smaller.

$399 is very steep for a 64GB device, considering having access to iCloud and iTunes Match (for a mere $25) will make excess storage unnecessary. I would say 90% of the storage on my iPhone is used by music. With iTunes Match, I won't even need the 32GB, I'll just download my music as I need/want it.

Yes, am I'm sure that AT&T and Verizon will let you download all the unlimited gigabytes you want to access that cloud storage ;) (by the way, people don't just use the iPhone for music. Some of us like video too)

Reading this thread reminds me of what happens when people believe every word that comes out of the rumor mill. Who was HONESTLY naïve enough to expect more than an incremental upgrade? Honestly? This upgrade is clearly for superfans and 3G(s) owners. You really can't go running around expecting them to add 15 big new hardware features every year, can you? If you do, I'm sorry, but your expectations are horribly unrealistic.

As someone who had no expectations this is a nice update for those with a 3GS or people new to smartphones. The improved camera is solid and the voice commands genius.

I have an iPhone 4 and I'm not upgrade eligible until end of the year anyway so I will wait until next year when I suspect iPhone will be totally redesigned and have LTE. I think we now have a firm schedule that we'll see all new iPhones every two years, which is find by me since every carrier is now on 20 month upgrade eligibility paths now.

Even without a redesign this is far and away the most powerful phone out there. It will take Android handset makers another year to match this. That, and I'm thrilled that Apple is offering a 64GB option this year--its shows that they are not going to force everyone to use the cloud like certain Android handset makers are moving toward. All in all, great update and I'd buy if I wasn't still under contract with my iPhone 4.

Either Apple has closed up shop after that awesome release or someone hit the wrong button.

I have the same question for the 16GB version. In addition of course it would be nice to know what networks it supports but I guess it's only G3.

Just in case it hasn't been said already in this thread....

Apple is doomed! Tim Cook will run the company into the ground!

Just saying..... ;)

1) I bet siri will still not get the iphone to dial my phone numbers correctly.
2) I hate you Apple. You get almost all the things I want in the phone except the larger screen! But you'll probably get me to buy it because you now have the 64gb version.
3) I'm gonna hate them more if they release the larger screen version within a year, being att will probably lock me into a 2-year contract.
