Like many others said, Apple just played catch up with specs. I just wanted a 4" screen, didn;t even care about a new form factor. I would have even purchased a 3.8", but not interested in the same phone. Very disappointing!

No problem with the iPhone announcements, that's all seems good, can't wait for iOS 5 and iCloud, but I'm surprised and saddened that there wasn't any update to iTunes, or mention of a 10.7.2 release date. I'm guessing the latter will come with the other two software updates, but would have liked a concrete date.

i don't see why anyone wound choose android because they were disappointed this wasn't iPhone 5. in speed tests the same chip in my iPad 2 was more than twice as fast as the top android phone, my 5mp camera took better photos than my friends android phone so this 8mp camera will blow any android phone away. iOS 5 is packed with more features than the latest android system.

The only reason you would choose an android handset is if having a larger sized lower resolution screen was the most important thing to you way beyond any other consideration.

In all seriousness, what have they been doing for 1.5 years? Retooling the same iPhone with some upgraded specs?

In the past 16 months Apple has been extremely busy!

Fixing problems with white iPhone 4
Verizon iPhone 4
New Apple TV
iPad 2
OS X Lion
iOS 5
iCloud

Apple has been busy.

It's not what I wanted, but it's what I expected.

However, I have a true question. When will the next iPhone come out? I'm not trying to be a smart ***, I really want to know. If it's back to the traditional June, I'll wait and go for the new one. If it's October 2012, I may get the 4S.

Is your iphone broken right now, no?, then stick with your 3GS or 4, there are 3 only slightly different devices and every app developer with some brain will test his app on the lowest device.
(Well except it is a high performance game of course)

My point is, if you don't need a new phone stick with your old one.
(Ignoring the fact that we live in a "waste your phone every other year society").

I swear I read this exact same post last year with the iPhone 4. (Not you, nor am I trying to be a douche.)

I would hope Apple goes back to a summer release, but it could be anywhere from June to October.

I doubt.
I think Apple is positioning themselves to release iPhones from now on in October to take advantage of the Holiday season.
While they took longer this time improving the hardware, I believe moving the launch dates to October was definitely a calculated move.

It is not the same phone.

I don't know about you guys, but I think it's obvious how busy Apple has been working on this new phone for the past 16 months. At least they aren't resting on their laurels. This new phone pushes them light years above the competition.

Wow, typical peanut gallery reaction here. If Apple had put all this new stuff into a new case and called it the iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4S, everyone would be going nuts. But since they used the previous body style (which I think is the most beautiful yet and needs no change) it's just a ho-hum update?

Whatever.

Not sure what to make of Steve not being there. I would have thought he might have at least been there at the start to 'hand over' to Tim or something. Perhaps he felt a clean break was the only way forward. It just didn't feel right.

These are some seriously absurd reactions. The iPhone 4 was already the best phone on the market. The 4S is way better than the iPhone 4, and, oh, it's the STARSHIP ENTERPRISE.

And you're all bitching that the screen isn't bigger?

Yes because a bigger screen is my #1 want. Why wouldn't I not be happy about that?

If I wanted an iPhone 4 sized device I would have bought one 14 months ago. Now I wish I did and have buyers remorse before I even buy one of these.

I'm thinking they won't wait until October 2012

For the next iPhone - I think we go back to June.....

Will Siri work on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G?

You really can't go running around expecting them to add 15 big new hardware features every year, can you? If you do, I'm sorry, but your expectations are horribly unrealistic.

Take a look at HTC and their annaul hardware updates. And for god's sake - Apple has just ONE phone model to develop. With world's biggest R&D budget - or at least it could be the biggest...

Before 2007, Web browsing was not very popular on phones either...

This is a big upgrade, no matter how you look at it. So many people will pretend it isn't because they have some bizzarre agenda they are trying to push. It is not designed to make people upgrade from iPhone 4.

You certain did not just compare the use of an internet browser, something that we all heavily use on a daily basis even when we aren't on our phone, to something that we never use, with anything.
