Siri: iPhone 5 is already out, as iPhone 4S is the fifth generation iPhone. Now belt up dumb human.
I will wait, this makes a nice phone already better for new users,but for existing prob better to wait for the iPhone 5. When iOS 5 rolls out for the existing 4 what will ewe be missing the cameras and the assistant? I can live without them. I will prob jump to sprint anyway when my contract expires.
WoW most of you guys are really disappointed. I'm sorry guys that you did get the iPhone 5. 
As for me I didn't get my hopes up. But these past months were fun.

Spec bump? Better camera? That's cool and all, but... ugh. And that's the thing, pre-orders are BEFORE Ice Cream Sandwich, so I HAVE to commit to buy if I want the thing relatively soon.

Android phones are going to have a field day for one more year. If the touch is one of the largest selling gaming machines why didn't it get the A5 processor? And why keep that old 3GS lying around? It's time to kill that phone. Don't apple what people to upgrade their 3GS's or sway Android users over to their camp? Other then games what apps really utilize the dual core on ios? Android yes but not on ios.
You still think that tapered design will show up in 2012? Apple surely think of future but not two generations ahead. The design was just a prototype that they threw away 'cause it looked so "samsung". Right now, even Apple doesn't know what iPhone 5 would look like. Just enjoy 4S and the comparisons with the upcoming Prime and Droid HD. I was ready for the iPhone 4S sucker but Assistant feature blew me.

I waited six months to trade in my iPhone 3 and really wanted a larger screen. Apple really screwed up. I think that is why Steve left as CEO. I was an embarrassment he could not bear.

At least the Classic is still around though at the same capacity. Though this might just be to off load stock.

Screw this. I'm so glad I can't upgrade right now. iOS 5 GM needs to leak today for it to be anything but a disappointing day. Did they kill the iPod Classic too? I hate Apple right now, where am I supposed to put my huge library.
There is no iPhone 5. There never was. That ugly POS will never see the light of day. It was a scam and you all fell for it. Someone injected phony specs into the rumor stream just to show how ridiculous the rumor mongers are. You all angrily and bitterly fought each other for how long now, calling each other all sorts of names, over nothing. Whoever did this, that was their intent all along. They're having a big laugh at your expense.
Screen size does not equal resolution. iPhone has 960-by-640 resolution. Your droid does not.
That being said, I still would have loved to see a 4" screen with 1280x800. Oh well, always next year.
I agree; it's better to be an iPhone 4 user at this point. By this time next year when the 5 comes out, contracts will be over and the iPhone 5 will be crazy.
And all of us getting the 4S will be sad.

This is simply not the best smartphone on the market. And it certainly will not be in 4/5/6 months time. Not good enough Apple!
I think its arrogant for Apple to assume they can not change the external of the phone and still expect it to be a hit. The game has changed in the last 18 months and IMO it is Apple's own pride that has lead them to doing this again (it was 3G then 3GS, so it has to be 4 then 4S). Really disappointing.

Yeah but how do you even know that Apple is eventually going to increase screen size? They just never might. A bigger screen would make sense only if they offered it through the same device size. Not everyone wants their iPhones to grow bigger. And keeping the size, the screen can be made only a little bigger.
