Guess now we know why this wasn't streamed live...

Pretty lackluster news coming out of the Apple camp today. I skipped the 3GS and went for the 4 and I'm glad I did, looks like I'll be skipping the 4S and waiting for the 5. If there's some killer app that runs like crap on my 4 i'll upgrade. Siri, for me, is not that killer app. My main concern is not being eligible for an upgrade when the 5 comes out should I bite on the 4S now.

A fancy voice control is just that.. a voice control. That function never been very popular on phones. It's just another fancy gimmick.

Tell that to my blind boyfriend.

I mean it kinda takes guts to be a new CEO and present your first major company keynote with something as lame.

Yeah Tim is really pissed at Steve for setting him up like that.

Samsung must be laughing right now.

yeah, laughing at all the new stuff they have to copy on their next phone.

What, no, they didn't copy anything. they call it the magazine rack and it's black, not brown. And its the Helper, not Voice assistant. And look the icon is red. Not the same as iOS at all

Not sure what to make of Steve not being there. I would have thought he might have at least been there at the start to 'hand over' to Tim or something.

He did that with his letter of resignation. No need to do it on stage like this is the crowning of a new King.

Double when you consider that 90% of the media and the public buys into the whole "wow he looks like ****, he's going to die tomorrow" because they don't get that you don't get over a liver transplant or pancreatic cancer. you will look like **** for the rest of your life even if it is decades longer because the hormone issues prevent you from building major amounts of muscle mass.
Wow, this sucks:

At the bottom of: http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/

"CDMA available only if iPhone 4S is sold and activated for use on a CDMA network."

I was hoping this would finally mean being able to buy an unlocked iPhone and use it on any provider you want in the US. Apparently not.

There's no such things as an unlocked CDMA phone. THe tech isn't written that way. Which is why you can't get a phone on Verizon, and then jump ship to Sprint etc.

But nothing in that line says that you couldn't buy a no contract CDMA plan and then put in a SIM card for GSM service either because you are overseas where there is no CDMA or you left Verizon cause they suck. Only that if you want to use CDMA you need to buy it that way from the beginning.

There's a difference between simply wanting to make money and making great products, the former guarantees a short life span for your company, the latter guarantees making money and a long life span.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15175034 This article just sprung up on BBC News, pretty much sums up how I felt about the event.
There is also a difference between careful, rational, incremental upgrading of proven design, while expanding upon economies of scale versus trying to satisfy a bullet point list. If AAPL did the later, we'd be whining about the 2 hour battery lives in our iOS flash-compatible devices. The 4s is "evolutionary", not "revolutionary", and I've no problem with that.

I also would be willing to wager your BBC fellow rather ends up with egg on his face when we see the various ways Siri in implemented. Siri is NOT Google voice.

But yes, I know, no tapered case, no 3.7 inch screen, the horror...

wow. well, I'm not surprised. I'd been saying for a long time that two iPhone models (4s and 5) didn't make sense from a business standpoint, and that they'd only come out with one new phone.

so now we know that even the WSJ gets it wrong (not as credible as we thought).

does anyone know if the iPhone finally got wifi-n?? I was a little disappointed not to see that in the live coverage.

http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/specs.html has the following info:

"802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only)"

Do we know if AT&T will allow current customers to upgrade a bit earlier than usual? I'm not eligible for an upgrade until November but would like to get the $199 price.

Thanks

Actually, Steve left as CEO probably because he is dying and didn't want to spend the little bit of life he may have left listening to whining like what's going on here.

Comments like that fall apart when you note that he publicly asked to be Chairman of the Board. So he's still there, he's still listening to the whining as much as before.

Oh and reality check, you (like the rest of us) have been dying from the moment your mama pushed you out of her crotch. It's the one universal fact of life. Otherwise, it's anything goes. Steve and his rotten pancreas and replaced liver could go on another 30 years, meanwhile tomorrow you're going to be hit by a bus.

It makes no sense to release a newly designed phone when many people will still be on their 2 year contract from buying the iPhone 4. June 2012 will see a redesigned iPhone.

Thought there was meant to be a Facebook iPad app announced tonight too, all we got was integration with *******

That may be true, but it does seem very similar to what vlingo have been doing for a while. It's probably true that there will be more polish on siri, but it's not really that revolutionary IMO

APPL down 12 points... Good day to own Puts :D

Also, I'd like to send out a big FACEPALM to all who belittled and insulted users for correctly guessing it would be an iPhone 4S.

That is all.

(Proudly) Sticking with my iP4.

Disappointment all around.

Being a 3Gs owner, I chose to proudly stick with my 3Gs when the iPhone 4 was announced - it wasn't revolutionary, it was evolutionary. Was I disappointed in the iPhone 4 announcement? Not a bit.

Not sure why everyone expects a revolutionary change from one generation to the next. You typically have to wait 2 or 3 generations to get a revolutionary change; while it's only an evolutionary change from one design iteration to the next.

I guess this means everyone complaining about the iPhone 4s were hoping for a form factor change. YAWN! ...Makes me wonder if these people are G5 tower owners complaining about computer performance while waiting for a new case design before they upgrade to an intel Mac Pro. I mean. What's the point in upgrading if the case design doesn't change?

That is all.

Google down 12 points as well. Weird, one would assume a bad thing for iPhone would mean good things for Android.

Wait a sec!

Even without a redesign this is far and away the most powerful phone out there. It will take Android handset makers another year to match this. That, and I'm thrilled that Apple is offering a 64GB option this year--its shows that they are not going to force everyone to use the cloud like certain Android handset makers are moving toward. All in all, great update and I'd buy if I wasn't still under contract with my iPhone 4.

Jesus christ, what you have wrote there is just fanboy nonsense and has no backing in reality. "Take a year to catch up", there are android phones out there that are more powerful than this, and just wait for the nexus prime, absolutely slaughters the 4s, simple as that.

This sounds ridiculous. Why wouldn't you just be able to call Sprint and say "I want to active my unlocked iPhone; here's my ESN" and have them do it? I have a really hard time believing this isn't technically possible; afterall Sprint phones roam on Verizon all the time.

Ha! to all the people who were adamant there would be an iPhone 5. Its not the right cycle year, next year will be iPhone 5. And I bet people who say they aren't going to get the 4S either get something else and come back, or just get it anyway.

That's the point exactly, the housing is capable of holding a bigger screen by making the bezel smaller.

And that's what I said in my original post. Without making the device bigger, there's only a little wiggle room to increase the screen, which won't actually make a dramatic difference in the usage. People asking for 4.7" screens isn't possible keeping the size of iPhone.

Do we know if AT&T will allow current customers to upgrade a bit earlier than usual?

who knows really. That's on ATT.

But a lot of it depends on how much money you are paying. they are more likely to go with a 18-20 month to full upgrade on folks that are paying higher plans to try to get you into another contract because you make them more money.

That said, it's only another 6 months, can you really not wait that long.
