They were too busy gulping. Also, with all the Apple employees coached to hold their reservations, so that they don't appear to be applauding such a separation between the haves and have nots, it was the expected reaction.

Exactly. A quiet reaction is the correct reaction.

Pretty sure that anyone that can afford a $10K Apple Watch probably has a 200K body guard, 100K chauffeur, and 200K supercar. If they are walking a few blocks it's not w/o muscle.
I am not sure about your numbers. People get mugged for Rolex watches now that are in that price range.

I'm surprised they didn't have anyone from the fashion industry on hand, or Angela Ahrendts on stage. This was too "techy."

That said, I'm pleasantly surprised about the stainless steel pricing. I see a $1049 38mm space black link band and 12" MacBook in my future. :)

$550-$1050 for the SS Watch? This sounds crazy to me. And the bands, are they going to be sold separately? What are the prices for them?

At least $500 for the most expensive one, as the difference in price is based on what band you choose. Probably we will see pricing released for individual bands when the store comes back up. Although I'm wondering if they won't be sold individually for the first few months to make supply issues easier to deal with.

I hope there will be an option to turn off that force-feedback track pad in order to extend the battery life in the new Macbook Air. The new MB Air 2 has 35% more battery capacity, combined with a slow, 5 watt Core M chip but loses 2 hours of battery life due to the Retina display.

I wish Apple would have gone the opposite direction, and kept the clickable trackpad with no force-feedback and not made the new Macbook Air so slim so that they could retain a larger battery. I thought Apple was going to increase the new Air's battery life, or at least retain the 12-hour battery life. I'm shocked that we are going to lose 2 hours of battery life instead.

You know this substantially decreases the battery how?

Let's also not forget that those who actually can afford $10,000 watches... Just because they have the money to spend, does not make them impractical. In fact, I would go so far to say they are MORE practical than the masses.

You don't think they care what their friends in their "inner circle" think of them? I do not think that it is a sure thing that those with the income to actually afford one are going to choose a pointless device over an actual time piece that will last 100 years. Amazing to me that so many think they will.

Maybe a few over the top celebrities will bite.. But all that's going to do is further define the product as both overpriced and... perhaps tacky?

10K for a watch? If I had that kind of money to throw around, (and I needed a watch), I'd get a Rolex, Breitling or Tag Heuer.

And the Apple Watch would still be as much of a novelty (and a drop in the bucket) to those people, as would a Rolex. Since they likely already have a Hublot, Tag, etc, this would just be an other tick in their collection box.

Yep, the new MB was definitely the best part and Phil did a good job with it. The rest was pretty boring, especially the watch.

Agreed. Cant wait for more of the new MB technology to spread to the rest of the lineup, like the butterfly buttons and new trackpad.

The posters who haven't read the last 50+ pages to glean some context have arrived. I'm not in the mood to see everything get defended and white-knighted now - I'm out.

It will sell to the same crowd that pays $1200 for a Macbook when they could get a similarly spec'd Windows laptop for $500. You still don't get it yet do you? Its not about money.

Didn't know there was a retina windows laptop that weighs 2 pounds and sells for 500$.

I hope for Apple's sake that this thread is not a good barometer for these watch sales. We seem to overwhelmingly and strongly hate it here.....

People here hated the iPad. ;)

The 349 model will sell very well.

I'm not saying it will fly off the shelves, but my limited understanding of the watch market seems to indicate that most watches in the $1-2k range have pretty much the same internals as a $50 watch with a fancy case and band. In that company, the Apple watch looks like a good deal.

Far from it, those 5k$+ watches have a unique state of the art mechanism that was put together by hand and it "just works" perfectly for many years to come. But apple watch trully has the same internals as some cheap android wear watch, it'll be obsolete in less than a year and the only thing they're really charging here is Gold and stainless steel band.

Hardly a surprise. Even Apple isn't pretending it's somehow a good deal, it's meant as a seriously OTT luxury item.

Remember the clapping & whooping comes from Apple employees in the audience mainly. It would be a pretty awkward thing to clap.

I remember last year's keynote when Tim walked on stage with the watch and the cameras switched to the stupid clapping lady in the audience standing up. I think she's one of the employees asked to sit and fill the seat.

It was so obvious to me that the camera crew knew exactly where the lady was. It was all orchestrated BS.

I know I'm not Apple Marketing, but they really should offer to allow you to force tap Tim Cook with your Edition watch purchase.

Agreed. Cant wait for more of the new MB technology to spread to the rest of the lineup, like the butterfly buttons and new trackpad.

Indeed. Funny, my 3 year old RMBP is working as fast as the day I bought it. Computers don't go obsolete due to internals anymore. But that trackpad can be a reason for an upgrade alone if they bring it to the 15" RMBP.
