Lots of hate on this same forum for devices called the iPod and iPhone too, How did they turn out? Its Apple, the watches will sell out in a day.
I'm sure of that but they may not have the staying power of the iphones etc... We'll see. Personally, I don't like the way the actual "watch" looks on this device. So that will keep me away from it for now in any case. I too would rather have a very nice real watch instead.

And the Apple Watch would still be as much of a novelty (and a drop in the bucket) to those people, as would a Rolex. Since they likely already have a Hublot, Tag, etc, this would just be an other tick in their collection box.

That's what I said to people on here, the sort or people that spend that much on a watch have a collection of watches costing that much.
It will be interesting to see how well it sells..

New Macbook? Excellent. $1599 might seem a little steep at first, but that's only $50 more than the equivalent Surface Pro 3, and only $200 more than the Dell XPS 13, which maxes out at a 128GB SSD. It's pretty much in line with its direct competitors there, but in a snazzy Apple package.

The Apple Watch though? I ain't feeling it. It doesn't really offer anything new, like the iPhone and iPad did. Basically, it's a health meter and iPhone notification extension device that you can wear on your wrist. Instead of breaking new ground, it gives you a slight bit of convenience over what everyone and their grandma are already carrying around with them for the introductory price of $350.

...eh.

1000+ for a stainelss steel... do they even know what kind of a great watch you can get for that amount of money?

incorrect. $549 +.

"Apple's mid-range Apple Watch, featuring a stainless steel body, will start at $549 for the entry-level 38-millimeter size, while the larger 42-millimeter will start at $599."

I dont think you should be comparing core M macbook to those devices pound for pound like that

the ssd drive space is above par though yes

Did he mention it's water resistance? I don't remember.

I believe it was mentioned after the preview a few months back as being 3ATM water resistant, meaning that it is only safe against accidental splashing. It is not to be worn in the shower or submerged in water. Basically, it is safe to use if you're sweating....but only just.

1. Not many, but enough.
2. If you are curious about the markup, you are not the customer for the gold watch.

I know I'm not in the target market for the gold watch, I'm just curious who is, as it doesn't seem to make sense for anyone, except maybe top people at Apple who have way too much money and a lot of brand loyalty to Apple.

Far from it, those 5k$+ watches have a unique state of the art mechanism that was put together by hand and it "just works" perfectly for many years to come. But apple watch trully has the same internals as some cheap android wear watch, it'll be obsolete in less than a year and the only thing they're really charging here is Gold and stainless steel band.

There's a huge jump in price from '$1-2k' to $5k!!!

Also, I've never heard anyone claim that mechanical watches 'just work.' Most of them suck at keeping accurate time.

$10,000 starting price for the Gold Edition Apple Watch? How much do you think the Apple electric car's premium will be? A $1 million starting MSRP? Lol

Exactly. A quiet reaction is the correct reaction.

Why is that? When it was announced at the iPhone Keynote their was wild, hooting, hollering and cheering. What happened to the enthusiasm today? It seems like reality set in.

And now I watch as my AAPL stock tumbles. Tim Cook and gang you guys are clueless on certain things. As a fine watch owner of many brands, apple definitely got a little to full of themselves on how they priced the watches.

From Apple :

2. Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant.

The Surface Pro 3 comes with i5 and i7 processors, much more powerful then the Intel one Apple has used, as I understand.
So no, the new MacBook is not the same at all.

For the gold? No. There was cheering for the watch, not for the gold edition separately.
