My rMBP says no updates available, so what does "today" mean.

It probably will be the same as previous OSX updates. Appearing as an app in the Mac App store, only free.

Would be nice if we got a time when it would be avaiable. Now I am cursed to update the app store multiple times to check if it is avaiable.

Yup, not much of an issue as I have a 2012 and it is fully compatible with Mavericks along with all the speed boosts / gpu performance increases / battery enhancements one would expect from a new pc.

The Price is high yes, but I have been quoted in saying that I will support Apple Building a product in the USA .

I may have to eat my own words and get one of these. Just will wait for some good benchmarks to be shown, and hopefully finally have Apple start utilizing more of the GPU in the next version of Final Cut.
