I don't see these sort of computers as good value proposition for an always on server. These are decent machines, but an always on machine serving ontent has other things that need consideration.

if you're looking to build a plex server, I would massively recommend not using an Apple comptuer (unless you've got an old one laying around). Heck, I wouldn't even recommend windows.

A custom built "server" to spec is the best bet. I'm more than happy to help give advice on building out a purpose built server (as I do it for a living)

Right now I have my Windows machine as the Plex server. I have my Synology auto fetching based on RSS feeds, and everyday when I boot up my Windows machine, it will process the downloaded files. Ideally I'd love to not have to power my PC to do this since I turn it off nightly.

Ideally I'd love to get a Raspberry Pi sized Plex / media server. :)

I like the look of the mini and air, however once I see what those prices convert to in Canadian dollars I am sure I will be far less interested in them. No doubt the mini will be a grand and the air will be $1500

Apple ALMOST nailed the Mac Mini. They should have offered one with dual flash SSDs like the iMac Pro and a maybe a SATA bus for large 2nd SATA SSD. An i9 would have been nice.

However, 64GBs RAM, 2TB flash, 6-Core i7 and the T2, (love that!), if it’s not $2500 for the high end model I’ll buy a pair. And please, no more soldering parts Apple please. I’m still using modified 2009 Mac Pros for a reason.

We’ll see.
This Mac mini has most of what I was hoping for, other than a disappointing i3 at the $799 starting price, and no dedicated graphics on the high-end models.

and here comes usual Tim Cook hyperbole that is based on misleading stats to pump sales

"iPad is the most popular computer in the world"... and then compares it to only notebook sales....

meanwhile, 5+ BILLION windows computers in the world....

THATS SE DESIGN !!!!

BRING OUT NEW SE, TIMMY !!!! NEW SMALL PHONE !!!

(but please no protruding camera)

My god, I never thought I would hear people go quite so crazy for the retail stuff, but they sure were.

MacMini!
All that matters is they actually did something. Price is secondary.
Yes, they removed the ability to upgrade with cheap hard disk storage. Fusion Drive only works with internal drives! This means, it can’t even match the storage of my current 2012 Mini.
