Speaks volumes about how familiar many posters here are with Apple that they can't imagine all this U2 business happening "in Jobs' time". This is exactly the kind of thing Jobs would do at the end of just about every iPad or iTunes related keynote ever.

This was not an iPad or iTunes related keynote.

There will be lines for its release just like the iPhone or iPad. Huge lines...do you remember how expensive the first iPhone was (no subsidy) and how long those lines were?

I have no doubt that the fanatics will lineup and it will sell out of it's first run but I just can't see this being a HUGE success. It's Apple, of course it will still sell okay.

Seriously suspicious that there are competitor shills being paid to flood this thread with "hurr door Apple is rotten", for their sake I hope they are being paid to blabber such bizarre rubbish.

Even if it had GPS you'd still need an iPhone. It requires the phone to function.

Buy a Garmin Forerunner 620 and a music player. Go run around the neighborhood. Track cadence, ground strike time, vertical distance, heartrate, calories, distance, time, with Bluetooth and wifi built in - it uploads to your Garmin account as soon as you walk into your house automatically. And the best part it's made to get sweat all over it.

Oh man this is like the iPad launch all over again. Don't you people ever learn?

But whyyyy would I spend $500 on a tablet when I have my perfectly good laptop? It's just a big iphone! No one'll buy them! Etc etc. :p

Having seen pretty much all the other smartwatches currently available in person, this by far looks the best. The closest second is the Moto 360, and if you actually look at a review of that smartwatch, you'll notice that it's easily the worst of them all technologically speaking (ancient SoC, terrible battery life, and slower than dirt).

This is the day apple dies. You don't revolutionize a product category using the same old desing. The reason the iPhone, iPod and iMac revolutionized everything was because there was no product like them. They had a revolutionary User Interface and a revolutionary design. Apple finally blew it. 349 for a watch that needs an iPhone to work? I remember when Tim Cook said at the launch of the iPad mini they weren't afraid of it cannibalizing the iPad because if they didin't do it someone else would. Thid watch right here screams fear. Fear of being to good, fear of the watch cannibalizing the iPhone. They hyped this product so much and is nothing but an accesory. I'm sad to see the end of Apple but I guess no one can top Steve.

1. Ipad invented by the INVENTOR Steve Jobs.
2. Ipad substituted personal computers.
3. Apple watch is a useless gadget.

and one more thing

Why the geeks to tell me what to wear?

Well, the iPhone was what had leaked, and the Apple watch literally brings nothing new the table. Sure, the die hards will argue that until the cows come home, but it's true.

The days of Apple innovation are OVER, it's now simply evolution and keeping their fan base happy.

Apple is not going to be able to bring new customers into the fold with product releases like this, it just isn't going to happen.

Time to face reality, Apple needs to get back to "thinking differently" if they expect to be seen as a pioneer going forward.

Maybe if people stop expecting unrealistic things from this company ever year, they'll be able to do that. If I was Tim Cook I wouldn't release this watch for another year or two until there's more tech you can put inside. If the tech is not ready, wait. iPhone was ready when it launched. I see this watch as a beta.

Don't need one. I have an armband for my note3 that covers all that in one device. I'm ok with that.

And?

I cringed but it was just a bit of harmless fluff at the end of a long keynote with two big new products and one big new service. I can remember countless disappointing keynotes back in the day and this is not one of them.

These people would've griped over the original iPhone, too.

And who is planning to replace their iPhone with a watch? Nobody.

LOL.

They work with older iPhones. They'll sell millions of these watches.

Ha! I loved the iPhone - thought it was the best idea ever - so that I only need one device to do everything on the go.

The iPhone was a necessity item - the Watch thingie is a tack-on that has an itsy-bitsy screen.

Why did Apple make a bigger iPhone 6 screen - because people need it to see information.

I continue to support Apple, hell I spent 10k on a new Mac Pro. The watch just ain't got what it takes. I have iPhones, iPads, iPods, Mac Books Pros, Mac minis - but, yech, 'F' that butt ugly swatch.

I can use an iPad without an iPhone...

Got the U2 album in my purchased list .. that was actually the most impressive part of the whole keynote, that they could wirelessly push an album of music to over half a billion people.

The rest of the keynote though .. I think we deserve Tim's head on a platter after that..
