"Q: Where do you stand on tethering?
A: Scott (explains tethering): We're supporting tethering in the client side, we're building that support in. We're working with our carriers around the world. We are building that support in."

Yea, does this mean a confirmed new iphone?
It says that the MMS and stuff will need different hardware...
So yea... yay?

They made it clear it works on the iPhone 3G. However, I would think they'd need newer hardware to install all those 3D games. I don't know. Releasing a new phone would cause 3G users to want to upgrade and we might not be if we are tied to a 2 year contract.

C&P, MMS, landscape email/text, push notification, text forwarding, stereo bluetooth, note syncing... wow. They really listened. 3.0 is an absolute home run. Oh, and the ESPN app looks amazing.

(and guess I'll be getting the new iphone to replace my gen 1 so I can use all the new features :))

Did Forstall Just say we're getting tethering in 3.0?

would be big news for those like me b/c im currently paying at&t for both iPhone and a wireless card.

Different hardware than was used in the original iPhones, which is why it's only available on iPhone 3g's. Atleast that's how I understood it.

"Forstall explains what data tethering is for laptops, says tethering is supported in 3.0. Also working around carriers around the world to see when the networks can support it"

If it's free, bye Jailbreak and farewell.

I think the fact that they noted medical devices is especially interesting.

I think the odds of that 10" tablet/mysterydevice being an oversized iPod Touch just shot up. How much more useful could that sort of thing be in a medical setting, with a larger display?

I paid $750 (US$400) for my iPod and even the most expensive iPhone is nowhere near US$2000. Fees paid to the carrier are irrelevant since you can buy an iPhone outright and still get the OS upgrade for free.

...Fees paid to the carrier arent irrelevant. You cant buy an iPhone without paying a $70/month fee at the very least (thats BEFORE taxes)

That's great news. I hope is soon.

The average consumer isn't going to even swallow this rationale.

Joe Pop won't be buying an after market iPhone, jailbreak it and try to use it on a non-authorized Telco.

Suck it up and pay $10 or don't upgrade.

It's Apple so you already know the answer to your question. They will nickel and dime you to death.

I'm already signed up for unlimited which supposedly includes MMS on all other phones but the iPhone. I doubt they'd charge extra since $20 for all phones includes MMS.

$10 is lunch money.

Honestly, for everything you get, and considering that the iPod Touch is just a glorified iPod with less space and costs more, $10 is nothing.

Now charing for the iPhone would be a different story.

My point is, if you think I have it so much better, you should ditch the iPod and buy an iPhone. Easy.

No that is not what they said. They said there is a difference in hardware between the 1st and 2nd gens so 1st gen phones dont get those.

This upgrade is going to be nice....

Wait.....What was that sound.....

Oh that was just the demand for first GEN iPhones on E-bay falling through the floor... if you have one and want to sell it you better do it now because in a few months everyone will know that some features will not work on that phone..... :apple:

I agree. Apple does listen. And they take the time to get things right, most of the time. I can't wait for 3.0.
