I don't quite understand what the iFund is. What is it? A fund to provide independent developers with some type of compensation for for their apps, if chosen?

iFund is fishing for the next "Google, Yahoo or Apple"

It's just a bunch of rich guys trying to find the next great thing and own a piece of it.

Imagine if your came up with something that was bigger than FaceBook or Google, you're an instant Bazillionaire. These guys want to be a partner, so you will be the millionaire and they'll be the Bazillionaires.

Jobs: "We will only stop VOIP over cell networks, but not WiFi."

That is wonderfully fair. VOIP would kill EDGE bandwidth (sort of AT&Ts fault) and not be fair. But using it at home is great.

an sdk for a game with high-definition graphics, a high powered processor, xbox live integration, and support for multiplayer is a bit different than creating an sdk for a small, handheld, flash-based device, and a simple touch screen. not to mention creating an xbox live game available for download by 18+ million people at a higher price than a simple program that took a company about 5 days to render for a lower price.

Well, one is $99 and the other is $99 every year.

June.. that sux.

they r doing Q & A someone should say something about Flash.

I hate how long they hold everything off til. I don't like waiting!!!!!

"B. Lam:

Q: Business apps are coming, should RIM be worried?
Steve: Go ask them."

Oh, Gizmodo is the best.

Also

"B. Lam:

Q: What will happen if someone does a VOIP app?
A: We will only stop VOIP over cell networks, but not WiFi."

VOIP HERE WE COME!!

VoIP is ok for WiFi apps! Not for cell network.

I say this is a good compromise that should be fair with all, including ATT. Of course, iTouch folks should be ok with this at all times...

"I think the fact that Apple is gonna be the exclusive distributor for these apps reaises questions about monopolies. What if a dev doesn't want to distribute through the AppStore?"

Jobs: Well, they won't be able to. But we think it'll be fine.

I've got to sya, "but we think it'll be fin" is a bit arrogant.

Ooh, in answer to some queries raised earlier:

Q: "How likely will there be a VoIP?"
A: "We will only limit over cellular -- if you want to dev them for WiFi, that's fine."

And I think it's a shame it's not until June, but on the other hand I'm not about to die of old age.

Overall, this is a really solid showing from Apple.

Anyone with an application idea can simply make money if they want (if it's a good idea, and implemented well) without worrying about the infrastructure for taking payments and all that bumpf. Kinda excited, have a few ideas. Maybe I should buy a new Mac on the way home today :S

I believe these places don't charge:

MacUpdate.com
www.versiontracker.com

Show us one place that allows you to sell stuff that keeps only 30 percent. And you get the best possible publicity - your app is directly available on every iPhone. You reach every single potential customer, without advertising, word of mouth, spam emails or whatever.

In addition, I think there is a very good chance that Apple will actually give you 70 percent of the revenue of all copies they sold, not 70 percent of the revenue that they tell you about.

If you still think 30 percent is high, what about these deals advertised here on MacRumors where a package of 10 Mac apps is sold for ridiculously low prices, like 10 percent of normal price? How much do the developers get there in your opinion?

To silence the crybabies - the SDK is available for FREE

The $99 is only charged when you want to register as a developer, in exchange for a certificate that allows you to distribute your apps via iTunes- this also makes you traceable in case you try and write malware.

I've got to sya, "but we think it'll be fin" is a bit arrogant.

"We think it will be fine" is the problem you get when livebloggers paraphrase..

A: "We think this is going to be a boon for developers, there's no other way to get an app in front of every single iPhone user." Just to make it a little clearer -- we don't intend to make money off the app store; the split with the music companies is about the same. We give all the money to the content owners and the developers here, and the 30% that pays for the store, that will be great.

And what about developers who write freeware apps? Nobody's going to be PAYING THEM. So will they also be charged the $99 bucks for the privilege of giving away their apps?

Good apps get people to use it. So charging $1 you only need 140 downloads to recoup your cost.

For the 30% you get distribution, OTA distribution, seamless issuing of updates OTA, payment processing and access to an audience of millions and I presume bandwidth.

Why are people crying about the June date? Did you really think you'd get this today?

Because many live in an instant society and they want their Maypo now!

I think what Apple has done is simply AWESOME!

Big deal! we wait a bit waaa waaa waa!

This will definetly be worth the wait and the small publishing fee will keep crappy software to a minimum! Great Strategy!

WTG Apple! :D ;) :apple:
