Open GL ES means the games when they do arrive will be ridiculously good looking for being on a phone

I'm starting to really understand why this has taken them a little while to get out.... yes longer than it could have taken, but still they are putting a lot into this SDK and update... I'm very impressed.

Yeah RIM is in deep trouble with all of this coming at them...what do they have to offer now other than an install base?

They have that great scroll ball.

Oh wait.

They have an easy to use UI.

Nevermind.

Now that iPhone supports Exchange, I wonder if Mail/iCal/A.Book will? It would be nice to be able to tell Entourage to piss off.
:)

Exactly. For those of us who work at large software corporations, its always amusing to see people demand significant amounts of work yesterday.

What's push calendar? Does it mean that changes made in iCal get pushed to the iPhone automatically and vise versa?

If that's not right, it's still a good idea.

Yes, just like a Blackberry. I can create an event on my BB and see it immediately in my Lotus Notes calendar and vice versa. :)

exchange

dude, they'll get another customer just from that. after seeing my new 16GB iphone, my father in law was all about it until i told him exchange doesn't work yet and he couldn't check his work email. now, he'll be golden and probably in line the moment after the software release!!

iCal does support Exchange. I use it at work with my mac in Mail. Awesome updates do far.

iPhone SDK comes with a new Interface Builder with iPhone widgets, Instruments and a simulator. Great stuff. Apple have really come up with the goods here. :tu

so does all of this news mean jailbreaking is going to be pointless in the next couple of weeks, other than activating for other carriers?

I'm going to ask the question going through all of your heads: When? When will all of this be available? They JUST released 1.1.4.

(Don't bite my head off for asking "when". Haha, someone had to say it.)

The million dollar question is when will the new software update be released? Im guessing not today...

Yeah I honestly was not expecting Apple to put ALL of this in at once like this and for free at that

And I keep wondering why not? MS got it right long ago when they did everything they could to make it easy to develop for windows. Sure you were locked in when you did, but it made it easy if you were okay with that. A device like the iphone is only as good as the applications you can have it. Releasing a free, full featured SDK means lots of applications will be written.

I was hoping not to be disappointed. I didn't expect to be completely blown away....but holy crap...I am!!
