There’s a huge number of people, including lots of people in my peer group of development professionals that would much rather use a 1st party/native app.

In that case, they may as well close down the App Store and develop everything in-house.

Even having said that, why can't some of these application-level features be released in the App Store throughout the year? Why not focus the core iOS development team on the OS itself? I just don't see how Memojis are of much interest to us nerds that watch the keynote.

This is an ‘S’ year upgrade for OS

That’s an interesting way of putting it and I agree. And I think that’s really what Apple has to do in iOS, it’s not necessarily about introducing specific new functionality, but improve the pre-existing issues and make them more refined to better the user experience. iOS alone has never been really groundbreaking, but it’s always been known for fluidity for the user, they need to retain that by building.
