Cool story bro

The fact of the matter is that the people that truly need these things will have them purchased by their employer.

Sony, Disney and the like will eat this up. I have a good friend that wrote and directed a very popular animated movie. He sent me a message a few minutes ago that he is all in.

Me? I’m happy with my Mini and MBP.

I've got a friend who works in a Disney edit suite (in the UK as opposed to the US) and a couple of years ago they junked all their Macs and replaced with PCs due to increasing cost.

I've yet to come across anywhere in the graphics industry that isn't price sensitive. I really don't buy this whole "real pro's will pay whatever it takes..." If the alternative was pants then perhaps but the increased ROI of a Mac over a PC just isn't there anymore, particularly at the higher end of things. It isn't the early 90s anymore. (And don't start me on rendering on a Mac without Nvidia).

Man, that monitor stand price. It's rare to receive a full groan from all the Apple fans at WWDC. They should have sold the monitor with a basic stand included in the price and then offered that rotating/swivel stand as a premium option. They probably wouldn't have made everyone cringe as bad. But to offer the only stand as a separate expense, and for $1000 at that, man, that was a bad mistake. That's like selling a BMW and then at the last minute saying, oh yeah, that price is just for the body. The wheels are an added, optional expense.

I'm sure there is going to be a lot of memes popping up about that stand.

Not trying to defend the insane price of the stand, but I am assuming the point was to be able to sell a monitor without a stand and instead with just a VESA mount, so people could mount these bad boys to their custom monitor stalks built into their high tech standing desks.

The display is... $4,999 plus a stand for $999? Am I reading this right? What the f*** is wrong with Apple. They finally delivered a co-branded display and these are the starting prices?

Lame. Seriously lame.

Lots of cool stuff today. The "mind blown" ads seemed to project quite a bit of confidence, and Apple clearly was ready to deliver. The Mac Pro seems to be everything people had been longing for.

Personally, I'm most excited by iPadOS and the new Watch enhancements. Separating out iPadOS into its own thing should free up Apple to really develop the iPad as its own platform. For too long, it's been constrained to mimic the phone, even though its hardware tells us it could be much more. If Apple is smart (and today, they seemed to be), they will turn the iPad team loose to innovate like crazy.

The watch stuff was more incremental, but still quite cool. Can't wait to try the new watch faces.

Mac Pro starting at $5,999 and Pro display starting at $4,999? Apple making Pro less affordable!

They've got the iMac Pro for that, which starts at $4500 with the monitor (which is still a great monitor btw). And to be fair, Apple has never been considered an affordable option since the beginning. The PC market was and still is, happy to fill that space.

Not me. I am more excited about today’s announcements than I have been in years. They announced a lot of things that will really help people do things faster and more easily. The new Mac is extremely powerful and that display is stunning. The new coding tools look great. Changes for the ipad are welcomed. As is the breaking up of itunes on Mac. Heck, they even touched Maps, Safari, and Carplay which I wasn’t expecting at all! And having had an accessibility issue in the past, the new accessibility stuff brought a tear to my eye I will admit. That will help so many people.

Definitely no disappointment here!

Could've posted that without quoting me bud.

I was actually pretty excited by all this today! Price tags aside, it looks like Apple is really starting to give people what they really want again. This was so much better than Apple's laptops - I can only hope that the next generation Macbook Pro gets as much consideration as the Mac Pro did. Getting more excited about iOS as well...

Don’t think you would be interested in the display even if the stand was gratis.

People that want the display without the stand are very appreciative.

Let's wait for the final version. I can't see them advertising full mouse support. But with it being rumored to be an accessibility option, this bit from today's keynote

"Moving cursor, can pick up and drag it where you want it to go. Selecting text, put your finger down and drag out a selection. No double tap, no magnifying glass.
Updated text editing. Grab a scroll indicator to move through a document."

sounds as if it might possibly tie in with a mouse accessibility option (though no full support).

Yes I’ll certainly be waiting to see the final features of it, with any luck some type of Mouse support.

It's simply because you don't make enough ROI with that 6K entry price. For some pros, 6k for the equipments means nothing. That's the target market they are going for.

Yeah, you are right.
I don't do enough content to justify a $6K machine.
I've had multiple MacPros and this is the first with an entry point that high.
Previous entry points have been in the $3K range. Even the coffee can started at about $3K.

My ROI is too long to recover the $6K to make it worth while.

999 is beyond ludicrous :)
It's a stand man! costs the same like an iPad LOL

There was a collective moan in the audience when they announced it. Everything they sell now is overpriced, iPads, cables, even their computer cases costs $200. In addition, the quality has gone down. I mean the iPads bend for 2k? Who would buy that?

Didn't listen to it Live, but did just review the thread here on MR.

One thing stands out !

Starts @ 10:41 AM.

I call it "One-Shot Background Tracking".

Our apps don't collect any User data, but many apps do, & this change has the potential to shake up the App Dev Community like few changes could !

Bravo AAPL ! ... however, it is ten years overdue !

Also, I see NO evidence that the Markets picked up on this (important) change ... NOT reflected in the stock of FB or GOOG.

BTW, I did NOT see a single other item in the thread that caught my attention.

The new 6K display is nice, but clearly targeted to those with a BIG budget.

The "Reference Modes" is a nice addition ... makes it much easier for NON-techies to position each option.

Then at least include the mounting bracket instead of charging an extra $200 for that. $5-6000 for a monitor and all you can do with it is prop it up against the box. That's bad.

If Apple is that hard up for cash and they can't afford to include the stand for $5-6000, increase the price by $500 and include the stand and mounting bracket. Nickel and diming people who are spending that much on a monitor (and likely 5-figures on a mac pro to drive it) is just a crappy move that makes Apple look like a 2-bit company.

It is a very impressive monitor and computer, and yet Timmy still can't avoid destroying the experience with his penny pinching.
