Apple today announced it has released Logic Pro X version 10.5 with a new Live Loops feature first introduced in GarageBand for iPhone and iPad, a completely redesigned sampling workflow, new beat-making tools, and many other new features.

Live Loops allows users to organize loops, samples, and recordings into a new musical grid. From there, tracks can be further refined using all of the professional production features in Logic Pro X. Remix FX enhances Live Loops with a collection of electronic effects that can be performed in real time over individual tracks or the entire song mix.

A free companion app called Logic Remote allows users to pair an iPhone or iPad with their Mac to control and perform Logic Pro X features and instruments. Logic Remote is receiving a major update today to allow triggering of sounds in Live Loops, browsing and adding loops, and applying Remix FX to a session. The app is free on the App Store.

Logic Pro X has also received performance improvements, over 2,500 new loops in a variety of instruments and genres, and more, with Apple referring to version 10.5 as the "biggest update to Logic since the launch of Logic Pro X."

Logic badly needs a mixer update, but will download and try in a bit. Genuinely curious to see what improvements have been made.

Truth be told I primarily use Cubase now, and it's been really, really good for my needs. I regret not switching sooner honestly. At the same time, I do genuinely think that Logic Pro is, by far, the best deal in music production today.

Yes, in shocking news, one digital audio workstation has features similar to another digital audio workstation.

That was a bit of a tongue-in-cheek riff on Apple's history of making similar claims about other things to which your comment would equally apply.

It's great they're making Logic better!

I am SUPER EXCITED. I have always hoped that Logic would find a way to improve the step sequencer/drum line tools. I hated having to go to Reason, use their "Rewire" technology (always forgot how to use it, then relearn it, then forgot). Now that Reason is just another plug in, this is much simpler, but am hoping I can use Logic for this now. Also makes me hope that using my Beatstep Pro in Logic will be more functional than it is now, kind of has been a FUBAR situation, so I just use it with my hardware synths for now.

Also, I just bought a Korg Wavestate to do wave sequencing, which is really fantastic, but complex. I wonder what the new features in Logic will allow me to do differently with my Wavestate recordings. Can't wait to find out.
