Not, it's not about Camel Alchemy, it's about supporting and displaying EDM and Hip-Hop as the two target genre to be produced and featuring the presentation page with horrible false trap, dubstep and tech-house sound.

We're talking about professional tools and software targeted at people who supposedly produce and know music.

Except EDM these genre are an absolute disgrace, for any DAW, brand, or platform to condone, and here we're talking about Apple??

The company that use to never sponsors anything to respect the marketing 101 rule of never compromising your image by associating with other things that are not neutral.

I could to a whole anti-Apple Music campaign just out of this screenshot if I was a concurrent company! It'd be effective as **** if people saw Apple associate itself with EDM, Trap, Tech-House, Dubstep and all those disgusting genre for a minority of american couch potato teens...

I would think the reason Apple prices this product at $200 rather than $2000 is because the very genres you disparage are expanding the market enough to bring the price down. EDM and Hip-Hop dilettantes are subsidizing the core "serious" professionals.

And Apple focuses on it?

Whilst it's not really called EDM outside of the US pretty much all of the music that falls under the broad umbrella of EDM originates from Europe.

It also happens to be what most people buying software like Logic, Ableton, Cubase etc are making.

As for there not being any EDM festivals outside of the US, well you're just wrong on that too. There are far bigger EDM events across Europe than any of the US events. Tomorrowland in Belgium being one of the biggest.

It's fine not to like a particular kind of music, I'm not too keen on most, but there's no need to be elitist about it.

I love Logic X and use it every day.
It's a great price.
If you want it cheaper buy Garageband.

I also use Pro Tools but each time there's a point upgrade to OS X it usually doesn't work and you are left contemplating signing up for the annual $299 subscription.

I've upgraded ProTools several times in the last few years to work on various OSs - Pro Tools 9, 10, and now 11 - I'll have to got to 12 and their subscription next if I want to to work :(

That's like buying Logic several times over!

With Logic you buy it and the upgrades are just a click away and at least when a new OS comes out you know Apple aren't going to be too far behind to make it work.

The biggest cause in not being able to have the latest version of OS X on my machine is ProTools.

I'm not going to argue. If you were trowed **** in the face, whether in science, politics, social or business you would be the apologist who would sells how it's okay even though it drags both everything down..

You know NOTHING about modern music. EDM is NOT and has never been the biggest electronic or pop genre, it is just a specific degeneration that covets to young tasteless american teens (and some others in world's provinces).

And I have no problem with the fact that these teens listen absolutely horrible and disgraceful music and practices, they listen to other horrible music like One Direction, that Apple is booking at iTunes Festival.

I'm saying that marketing, brand and image strategies happen on a long term and are very fragile schemes. Apple has LOST ALL CREDIBILITY with it's recent position between Apple Music and Logic Pro X, because guess what: tasteless, ignorant and talentless people don't lead the world, they follow. And if the people they follow start leaving, despising or criticising Apple, they will too.

This kind of pseudo open-mindness and passive tacite acceptation of **** based on ignorance, no value or positioning is responsible for a lot of mediocrity in the world...

I don't see what any of this bickering about genres has to do with Logic X. Apple added more features for free. Didn't take anything away. Still $199 for new users. Still way cheaper than many comparable DAW's.

Any complaining about it is just mindless whining.

Kind regards from someone who has worked in the music industry for 25 years and actually knows what they are talking about.

I'm just going to ask you directly, with which other software have you worked with professionally? (Got paid for)

What kind of music do you make?

Wait... so you think its a better idea to make the app free, but give no support for it unless you pay...

I do. That's exactly how Xcode and iOS App Development / Distribution work right now.

Xcode is a free download on the Mac App Store. You can use it to do anything (including, as of OS X 10.11 and iOS 9, install on your own personal iOS devices), except Apple won't help you if you have problems and you can't distribute on the App Stores unless you pay Apple a $100/year fee.

They could make Logic Pro X work the exact same way. It would be completely free for personal usage, but you have to pay Apple a $100/year fee to ask Apple questions about how it works or to distribute the songs you produce via iTunes Connect.

When I say "support", I'm referring to email, phone, chat, in-person, etc support. Support where an Apple employee needs to individually talk to you, not stuff like documentation, where Apple can produce it just once and distribute it with the app or on their website. Apple has plenty of free information on how to use Xcode and write Swift or Obj-C code available on their website, within Xcode, and on the iBooks store, but if you want to call them and talk with a developer who can actually help you with your code, you need to pay the $100 annual fee.

Not, it's not about Camel Alchemy, it's about supporting and displaying EDM and Hip-Hop as the two target genre to be produced and featuring the presentation page with horrible false trap, dubstep and tech-house sound.

I don't care for hip-hop, but electronic dance music is a pretty abstract set of synthesizer sounds. Frankly, when I was working on my own Pink Floyd style album I was looking for some good synth leads and Logic Pro 9 was sorely lacking in that department. I had to make my own in many cases using the basic synth engines. If you know anything about Pink Floyd (you only seem to know you have a seething irrational hate for dance and hip-hop), they tinkered with all kinds of freaky analog synth sounds, the same kind of synth sounds others might use in electronic music and there are many forms of electronic synth music, not just "dance" out there. I'm partial to Delerium, for example which is similar to Engima, but with more than just Gregorian chants. But since they use "dance beats" I guess you'd consider it garbage. I like the Pet Shop Boys too. They are probably also garbage to you. But then I don't really give a crap what you like or what you think is worth listening to.

We're talking about professional tools and software targeted at people who supposedly produce and know music.

Except EDM these genre are an absolute disgrace, for any DAW, brand, or platform to condone, and here we're talking about Apple??

Absolute disgrace? Yes, I'm quite sure your taste in music is just fabulous.

The company that use to never sponsors anything to respect the marketing 101 rule of never compromising your image by associating with other things that are not neutral.

Tim Cook is not Steve Jobs in case you haven't noticed.

Perhaps you could tell me what country you're from so I can avoid it on my next trip abroad. ;)

What is the world coming to when people complain about "free" and "major" upgrades... o_O
Complaining that they should charge instead of giving "free" upgrades...??? People WANT to pay?

Either these forum responders or people are competitor marketers trying to make Logic and Apple look bad for self gain and/or people trying to stereotype the Apple user as a bunch of idiots...

We have to remember that Apple is a business to make money. "Yes" they make money on this "free update". They receive sales and marketing data and know where the growing markets are and.....WHERE APPLE should focus in those segments that they are weak in to attract "new" spending customers. Remember that though Apple is successful, it is not due to selling Macs...

Data shows that the majority of their users continue to purchase or upgrade once they come aboard, but at a slower rate (which is small compared to The PC market), but if they want "new" customers, they need to broaden their customer base. This is why they are focusing on other customer segments for Logic besides the "U2" type client base....which gave Apple a reality check when they released that "free" flop to every iTunes user a little while back....showing that times have changed...Yes...Tim and Eddie..times have changed..."still have not found what "you" are looking for...eh?"

What Logic Pro X now offers excels over their completion, especially at the going price.

"YES, free," But guess what? Those who want to use all of the "free" stuff added to an upgrade will NEED stronger systems to run it...eventually...OR if you are generally from the Hip Hop or other target markets for Apple right now that were in the past not their main customer base, who mainly used PCs instead of Macs to make their music (a lot). Then They will have to switch over and BUY Apple gear to create their tunes...if they like what they see in logic now...which I suspect they will....

Beautiful move by Apple and a brilliant marketing strategy. I for one ALWAYS love "free" updates, especially when the "free" updates...make us have to upgrade....eventually...

Great work Logic team! Saved yourself from the next layoffs...;)

See R3k's post
A quick update.

Inside User Library - > Application Support there was an alias folder called "Logic" that was pointing to the "Audio Music Apps" folder. Im sure this alias was created by Logic quite a while back when first installing Logic X on a system that had Logic 9 already installed. Im betting the majority of users will not have this alias there.

I removed this alias, opened Logic X and it works. It creates a new "Logic" folder in place of the alias and puts a file in there- "Alchemy_Preset_ratings_And_Tags.db"

So...that Alias folder was stopping the creation of this file and thus crashing the app.

Sorted.

Lol. Are you serious. Here is a list of the top 10 EDM artists of 2015 and their countries of origin (no particular order)

Alesso - Stockholm, Sweden
Martin Garrix - Amstelveen, Netherlands
Daft Punk - Paris, France
Calvin Harris - Dumfries, United Kingdom
Tiesto - Breda, Netherlands
Zedd - Kaiserslautern, Germany
Avicii - Stockholm Sweden
Deadmau5 - Toronto, Canada
Skrillex - Los Angeles, US
Swedish House Mafia - Stockholm, Sweden

Very US Centric with 1 out of 10 artists actually from the U.S... Just because you don't like a particular genre of music doesn't mean you can make **** up and pass it off as fact. Awesome generalizations about the EDM culture though, real classy.

Well great Apple, you just lost 200$ x 4.

That's just the reality of marketing to the most popular segment. Those genres are all that mainstream people care about these days, and their ease of creation makes them instant targets for anyone that wants to make their own music. There's even some good stuff in the genres, too, though swamped in crap.

Logic being marketed that way isn't really impacting the ability to use it to create any other kind of music.

The thing to be concerned about is that Logic X ships with many "advanced" features hidden (unless you're upgrading from an installation of 9). But all that stuff is still in there and still works.

I must say, Apple, you have really done a brilliant job with Logic over the past year. The Logic team at Cupertino should be proud.
Anyone that can have anything negative (other than a bug report) to say about this update clearly has no understanding of the music production business and should just go home and stop waisting thread space.

I don't think they should show "pride" until all the GUIs are updated to retina resolution. Even this new synth addition fails to have the retina resolution graphics. I can understand legacy plugins still awaiting complete redesign because of old source graphics needing complete recreation, but this version of Alchemy is brand new product. Only thing is, it's not. The lack of retina GUI graphics shows that it's a formerly 3rd party product that was crammed into Logic without taking pride in completion.

Spot on, actually. Alchemy 2.0 hints date back to 2014 (KVR forums) and I highly suspect the current UI is what was already under development while still under Camel Audio. Logic bought it, rushed with content, Logic Remote and smart controls, and ignored power-users that like to twiddle the knobs.
They even have a retina space-designer screenshot on the logic pro X page...

Its completely baffling that after 3 years, their own product isn't 100% retina ready.

Retina shmetina. I really couldn't give a rats arse about retina support if it sounds the part. And fortunately it does sound the part! No complaints here.. This is a superb update.

Welp, I have a retina laptop and I'm pissed that I have to look at jaggy fresh plugins from Apple itself (that knew it was coming ages before anyone else), while half of my third party plugins are already retina ready.
