More good news... The fix was backported to M84. This version of Chrome is scheduled for release on July 14th.

@raha613 This is excellent news, thanks for the legwork involved!

I have the pleasure to confirm that the fix does indeed work with the latest build of Canary. webcamtests.com was only able to register a 640 x 480 resolution on the first try but subsequent runs resulted in the camera switching over to the intended 4K resolution. The Web version of Slack now displays the video feed without any issues.

It looks like Chrome Helper Plugin is spewing out CMIO ID error messages:
par défaut 15:58:35.212196-0400 Google Chrome Helper (Plugin) CMIO_Unit_ScopeElement.h:200:SafeGetElement Throwing err: -67454, elementIndex: 1
par défaut 15:58:35.212903-0400 Google Chrome Helper (Plugin) CMIO_Unit_ScopeElement.h:200:SafeGetElement Throwing err: -67454, elementIndex: 1
par défaut 15:58:35.213654-0400 Google Chrome Helper (Plugin) CMIOHardware.cpp:357:CMIOObjectGetPropertyData no object property for given ID 33
par défaut 15:58:35.258852-0400 Google Chrome Helper (Plugin) CMIO_Unit_Input_Device.cpp:246:GetPropertyInfo CMIOUInputFromProcs::GetPropertyInfo() failed for id 102, Error: -67456

But the system logs look clean otherwise when starting a video stream.

Now we'll need to lobby Electron into upgrading their framework to the latest stable build so that we can get in touch with affected application developers. I will mark July 14th on my calendar. ;)

I would suggest we start posting to the Apple and Logitech Community Forums as well to spread the news.

I will report back to Logitech but doubt that they will be of any help.

Electron keep updating Chromium to the latest version on a weekly basis while Slack upgrades to the latest "back-end stuff" with every other minor release.

I bought this from Apple, and it arrived yesterday. I don’t have the XDR, but I do have a 27” LG 4K monitor. I spend 1/3rd of my day on video calls, and opening up my MacBook Pro to use the camera was a real pain. I also liked that it was a quality webcam that I could purchase at MSRP (and not above!).

Installation was plug and play. I used a USB-C to USB-A cable I had (USB 3.1 SuperSpeed), and connected the camera to the rear USB-A hub port on the monitor. No issues getting 4K.

To attach, I got these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GXJNDQG/

^^ I took one of the bigger plates (they’re not really a magnet), and bent it ~90º with my fingers in a vise, so it matched the same of the top/back of the monitor. Peeled the sticker off, and now I have a fairly permanent spot to magnetically attach the webcam.

Logitech has a driver/software available that lets you override exposure, white balance, etc. I really got it to change the POV to a more narrow scope. There is a bug with WebEx where it doesn’t seem to remember/pull in the proper POV, unless you have the Logitech app open and then toggle the POV setting and/or widescreen or standard framing. Annoying, but I can live with it.

Overall image quality is good, but I do have issues with the auto exposure. I sit facing a window, and during the afternoon, it wants to alternate between blowing out the image and me keeping properly exposed. I may just have to tweak my blinds :)

The audio, however, is fantastic! A peer actually record my audio from WebEx, and the resulting playback quality (even via the heavy WebEx compression) was much better than AirPods or a traditional phone line.

Does anyone know if this camera will ever work with Slack? Just picked it up without realising. Seems the latest build of chrome has fixed a few things but if not I will be returning it. It comes up in the camera list but never loads an image. Works in just about every app except Slack but unfortunately that's the only one my work uses.

@willparkinson23 We're almost there, you'll be able to use Slack within Chrome for the time being. Make sure you have updated to Chrome 84 or else you'll be hit with a blank video feed.

Slack leverages the Electron framework within their desktop application. A new build of Electron should drop any day now, hopefully including the latest 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam fixes.

If we're lucky this should get pushed downstream to the latest release of Slack around the August or September timeframe.

I'm looking to use this webcam with my MacBook Air to stream for my YouTube channel. I understand that I won't be seeing 4K resolution on my laptop because it doesn't have a retina display, however, will the people watching my streams who have 4K displays see my stream in 4K?
Also, live stream on YouTube isn't supported in Safari, I have to use Chrome. From what I have read, the whole Chrome issue has been fixed and this webcam will be recognized at its 4K capacity, correct?

Hey thanks for all this info. I just set up my new LG 32" 4K monitor with thunderbolt 3 with USB-C and A. Would I be able to use the included USB-C cable with the webcam directly to the USB-C port on the monitor and it will work no problem?

Also, thanks for the link on amazon for the plate, but maybe I am missing something. You took a bigger plate and folded it with your finger and attached it to the top and back of the monitor just to provide a platform? How does the magnetic part of the webcam attach then if there is no magnet on the monitor itself? Thanks!

I have just bought a Macbook air 2020. But discovered the built in camera is hopeless only 720 and focusses on the back wall of my room instead of my face. Horrified the air could be bought in bulk by universites for students ( they are doing this to sell their new online teaching and Mac as its marketing the air to students) Will the Ultra HD webcam magnet stick on the top of the mac air or even better stick onto the middle of the screen for better eye gaze teaching contact.

Sorry, didnt get notified of your question.

Yes, you can use the included USB-C cable and connect to the USB-C port on your monitor.

Regarding the plate - it’s not magnetic, it’s just metal with adhesive on one side. So I bent a metal plate to match the angle/shape of the top of the monitor, and it’s basically stuck on there with double-sided tap. The magnet of the Logitech sticks onto the metal, yet I’m still able to make minor adjustments to its position.

Buy some of those metal plates I linked above, you can stick one on the top of the Air lid. When the Air is open, the webcam can magnetically attach to the back of the lid, basically behind/above where the normal built-in cam is located.

Thanks so much for all the help. I bought exactly what you described and it's sitting right next to me.

Unfortunately, the first monitor that was shipped to me the other day had two scratches on it so I requested an exchange and the new one came two days later from Amazon and one of the USBC thunderbolt ports didn't work at all and the other one connected but did not charge very quickly and the computer was losing power. I am now receiving my second replacement today, and hopefully this one is the one so I am waiting to attach any metal.

Has anyone really confirmed that the 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam can do 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps on a machine other than the Mac Pro 7,1? Or even on that machine for that matter?

I have the webcam connected to a Mac Pro 5,1. Whether connected to USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 (via a PCIe card), it can only do 720p at 30 fps with QuickTime or 1080p at 24 fps with iMovie.

@BeatCrazy, you mention that you have no trouble getting 4K. Could I ask how you tested this?

This is how the webcam appears under USB in System Report:

Code:
USB 3.1 Bus:
  Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBXHCITR
  PCI Device ID: 0x15ec
  PCI Revision ID: 0x0006
  PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086

Logi 4K Pro:
  Product ID: 0x087f
  Vendor ID: 0x046d (Logitech Inc.)
  Version: 3.17
  Speed: Up to 5 Gb/s
  Location ID: 0x00300000 / 1
  Current Available (mA): 900
  Current Required (mA): 896
  Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

@joevt would you have any insight on this? I'd really appreciate it.

Hmmm... I thought I used webcam tests.com but I just tried it again and can only seem to get 1920x1080 max. Now you've got me wondering...

Getting 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps requires that the webcam be connected to USB 3.1. You can confirm this in the USB section of System Information (About This Mac > System Report). Ports on displays (even the XDR) may only be USB 2.0.

Another requirement is having the proper software. Logitech Capture for Mac supports the Logi 4K Pro and should give the option for 4K. In my case, however, the max it offers is 720p at 30 fps (like in QuickTime, despite iMovie offering 1080p...)!

Maybe this is because the software detects my older machine, and I'm fine with that. I'd just like to know that the webcam can actually do 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps on a newer machine, even the newest Mac Pro.

I can confirm the camera is on a USB 3.1 bus. I tested directly attaching to MBP, as well as via my LG 4K monitor (screen shot attached).

Re: the Logitech Capture software.. I cannot get that to recognize the camera as a source? I did give the program access to the camera in System Preferences.

I also cannot get it to recognize the camera on my MacBook pro or the screen. I tried downloading the beta version of the Mac OS software but for some reason the website or FTP site is not operational so I can't even get that... It seems like in Safari on the webcam settings site it is able to detect the 4K, but not in any other browser

Oops! I just realize that although connecting the camera to my monitor (even with the proper USB-C cable), only supports USB 2.0 speeds (screenshot above). D'oh!

Here is the camera directly attached to my MacBook Pro:

So if you connect it directly to the MacBook pro it will support the USB 3.1 and be detectable?
