So if you connect it directly to the MacBook pro it will support the USB 3.1 and be detectable?

See post right above yours with new/updated screen cap. Yes, when directly attached it supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gb/s), but the Logi Capture software still does not recognize the camera.

Okay, I will test it. What about the beta software? Have You tested that at all or are able to get it? The site doesn't seem to be working

Yeah, something is goofy with that software in the link, try here: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025141614

However, we have success!!

Here's how you can verify your Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam for Pro Display XDR works in 4K on regular ol' Macs:

  1. Connect the camera directly to your Mac
  2. Ensure you're using a cable that supports at least USB 3.1 Gen 1 (so you get 5Gb/s transfer speed)
  3. Ensure you're running Chrome build version 84 or later
  4. Go to webcam tests.com and you should see your camera available to test
  5. Run the test, this does take several minutes.

I'll give that a try, and we'll double check my settings of chrome, but as I said Safari also detects it. The link you sent above is for the software 2.0 I think but I saw that there's a beta version of 2.036 I think but the site still not available. I contacted support to let them know and hopefully I hear a response.

Yeah I tried that beta version but nothing I had could extract it.

This is the webcam connected to a 2016 MacBook via USB 3.0. Apparently, that's enough for 4K!

This test was carried out in Chrome. In Safari, the test shows 4K but with 0 fps...

This is a test result on a 2019 16" MBP. On Chrome. Camera is connected to a USB C port on the back of the 5K 27" LG monitor which in turn is connected to a T3 port on the MBP.

The webcam can indeed do 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps on the Mac Pro 5,1 via USB 3.1. These are the video modes seen by the Camera app in Windows 10:

I guess it comes down to the software in macOS not offering the option...

macOS not offering the option for what?

Software in macOS, such as QuickTime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and even Logitech Capture, do not currently offer the option to record 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps when the hardware clearly supports it. I don't really mind, because I won't be using the webcam for this; I just wanted to make sure that the webcam could actually function as advertised.

Makes sense. Yep hardware support, no problem. But nothing wants to take full advantage. I’m not too bummed, as I think WebEx only supports up to 720p anyways. I’d prefer better image quality/lens vs. pure resolution, anyways.

So, erm...should this camera tilt, as advertised?? Mine (received today) is either at a slight tilt one way, or level if you rotate it 180° about its stand. I can't even see how it can tilt given there's a solid bit of foam between the camera and its stand. Have I got a dud?

EDIT: Not a dud, but a dunce! The stand needs to be held (e.g. connected onto the screen) and the camera tilted...obvs 🤦‍♂️

1. Does this magnetically attach to the Apple 30" Cinema HD Display? I assume it would, but I'm wondering if anyone has actually tested it.

2. Does it work with the M1 Macs?

I have this camera. It will work with any modern Mac, and magnetically attaches to virtually anything. If your surface is not metal, you can use small a metal plate(s) with adhesive - you can get these on Amazon for cheap.

I bought the 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam from Apple for my XDR display + M1 Mac Mini. I used the webcam as described in the manual via the supplied short C cable to XDR input. The video quality is BAD. I also tested with M1 MacBook Air using FaceTime and QuickTime and both did not operate in 4K. I really like the design and mic sound quality is good but not able to get 4K is odd when it's marketed as a 4K webcam.

If I'm doing something wrong in the connection, Apple or Logitech should document the connection better. I returned the camera.

Here's a video I made.

Just got one of these and while the camera is working fine in macOS, it's not detected in Windows on Parallels. My previous Mac Studio camera was detected just fine and I've checked the obvious settings in Parallels to make sure the webcam is being shared.

It must be something simple but can't see it for the life of me! Any ideas?

@HiFiGuy528 - I agree about the quality btw. Another thing I think where I must be doing something wrong...

I just ordered this camera, for my new XDR screen. I should receive it in two weeks but based on the comments here, it looks like I will return it? Any updates on the previous issues?

Can anyone share their experience with this camera and the Studio M1/M2 Ultra? Waiting to receive the product, thank you.

I use one with an ASD. I had to use 2-sided adhesive to get it to stick since the ASD isn't magnetic. Camera works like a charm from a Mac Studio. Logitune was finally updated to be Universal/AS-native.

Do I need to install any software, or the camera is truly plug and play with the Studio?

Would recommend Logitune. It'll allow you to zoom and pan the camera to center you in the video frame. Also has some other adjustments (wide angle, color balance, etc.). Logitune is what Apple should have licensed or created something similar to deal with the awful wide angle camera on the ASD.

After scoring a Pro Display XDR and an Apple Pro Stand, I just have ordered the Logitech 4K Magnetic webcam. It will arrive on Friday. Then I have the whole package. :)

Let me know your impressions, I'm checking the Opal C1 as option but ultimately I decided to use my DSLR camera with a quick detach mount.
