Haha. I get most of my toiletries from pound land/buster. But it should be easy to catch the rioters. Look for any kids in new trainers and hoodies

Probably worth keeping an eye on gumtree.com/london for 'riot gear'.

1 42" Samsung LED TV, box iz slytley dammijed. Me wants £200, but they aksin for way mor in the shopz. Eazy.

I'm Arabic and pretty certain I fall into that criteria of people who are stopped and searched. I've lived in seven different boroughs in London and I've never been stopped. Maybe its because I don't try to conceal my face with a hoodie when the suns out, maybe I just don't fit the police's stereotyping profile of a troublemaker (not that profiling is fair), but I can't stand it when people try to play the victim like that. I'm not the police's biggest fan but I'd love to see these apparently racist officers because the officers I've spoken to have been normal human beings, not racist thugs.

I totally agree about the unemployment issues, especially in Tottenham and Croydon, but this just isn't the way to go about solving things and I have no sympathy for the people who do this. I actually know one guy who was out last night in Croydon - don't know what he actually did, he could have just been spectating - and he's always moaning about how he gets dirty looks from officers (and has been searched a few times) and then he goes out and does this? **** the police, as he'd say. Just bring in the army, I have no sympathy for these morons.

Yup could not agree more, this is a riot and not a protest I am however alarmed by the large scale disenfranchised youth of this country and think things will only get worse if something is not done to reintegrate them with society.

On the stop and search I have mates who are doing masters or PHD's at both SOAS and LSHTM, when 5 of them want to go home after a days study they either choose to go separately so they won't be stopped or they build an extra 30 minutes into their schedule. We need a more intelligence lead approach to policing and not some copper having to randomly select people.

I should at this point explain that I am white, very middle class and work in TV. I used to work in London but now am in Bristol where I reside in possibly the most affluent area of the city. I do however spend a large part of my life on the streets of London filming and have seen at lot of frankly appalling behaviour from both sides.

Clearly you have NO idea.

+1. The death toll would be horrific if we'd had national, legal gun ownership rights. Thinking about it, the number of lives lost since WW2 for example would have been atrocious. Luckily we don't have a man-made (sorry, ordained by god) document that promises us all, no matter how dumb, such a stupid and apparently necessary object to live free.

RIM are apparently cooperating in full with the police. Some reports are saying the gangs used BBM more than social networking sites to organise.

All the kids today use BBM. It's going to get to a point where Blackberrys are associated with hoodies rather than anything to do with enterprise.

It's also worth noting that my love-life has vastly improved since I got a Bold and onto BBM. Now that could be an indication of the standard of girls (plural) I'm currently dating.

They probably thought that BBM would be more secure. If RIM are cooperating, that will turn out to have been a big mistake - much easier to identify people with a phone contract than anonymous posters on Twitter.

Pathetic? I apologise for hating on a culture that believes it is superior in every way to people living north of them.

Have you ever heard of a thing called the north/south divide? Its especially prominent in the media.

I'm originally from the North West and have lived in London for 20 years.

There's no 'culture that believes it is superior in every way to people living north of them', at least not in my experience.

This chip-on-the shoulder attitude is tiresome and completely unjustified. If you don't like people in the South, just be honest and say that - don't try and justify bigotry by projecting blame onto other people.

Couldn't agree more, sorry if you feel the news is London centric but considering

1 - The majority of government is there
2 - One of the worlds biggest stock exchanges is there
3 - Next year the worlds biggest sporting event is there
4 - Its an international cultural landmark
5 - Its the capital city
6 - It a leading financial capital

It would be a little amiss for the coverage of this all to come from outside of London.

Small minded petty bigotry is one of the things that annoys me most about this country Africa has Game parks that are bigger then the entire UK and has genuine problems around food/water and healthcare and we manage to split on a hypothetical North South Divide....

SOmeone needs to learn the meaning of the term "sarcasm". ;)

They are obviously cracking a joke. This is an apple products forum, so it certainly seems fitting to zero in on the apple store. This doesn't necessarily mean we are insensitive. I am sure many of us find the riots deplorable, but it doesn't mean we have to spend every waking minute bemoaning this fact. Take a look at the lighter side of things and chill out, man. Life's bitter enough as is. :D

Yes, fair enough. However jokes are a little harder to take when you have family members who have been caught up in the riots.

On a more sarcastic note, the UK won't be seeing Sony Products for a while. ;) At least we still have apple :)

I was in the Bullring when there was an announcement that they were closing, and then we all got kicked out.

I was in Chinatown with friends about 20 minutes before that and saw police and a couple of police vans. Someone had suggested that there was a possible robbery as a policeman was walking up to a security van guy, who was carrying a box of money, and was just come out of the Arcadian. As we walked past this and towards the Bullring, we saw police spread out around the area and though that maybe the robbers had escaped and the police were looking for them.

So when the Bullring announced they were closed, we all though it was because of this.

Thanks, i will tweet this to my followers.

So these "misguided" "misunderstood" kids in "poverty" who are rioting have smart phones lol

Its a joke really, if these lot were offered decent jobs do you really think they would get off their arses and take them?

Making the UK look bad? Last I looked, NI and Scotland weren't related to London and some city which has been overruled by imigrants.

Its not making the UK look bad. Its making the southerners look bad. Which is fine by me, as most northerners, including myself, despise them more than those annoying american nerds on Xbox Live who think console gamers > all (you know what I mean).

In honesty I'm surprised its come to violence. I expected the southern fairies to be throwing teacakes and muffins at the police.

Oh dear, you pretty much hate everyone, don't you? Careful though or you'll rapidly run out of people you can actually tolerate...and since the riots have already occurred in Leeds and Liverpool (your precious north), you're going to have to put your money where your mouth is soon. Hope you've got some friends left. Good luck!

Werd.

I'm not condoning these riots, I just think we really need to focus on what's caused them rather than reactionary idiotic threats of judicial revenge.

Sorry I don't understand your post are you agreeing or disagreeing with me ?

I can only imagine ;)

Oh yes its great news. They are also talking about an overnight ban of BBM tonight but im not so sure they will agree to this.

It's only optical media apparently (CDs, DVDs and games)

Wont be much use to a lot of Mac users anyway then ;)

Assume this was for (bad) comedic effect as you seem to have missed the point where you find London has 12% of the UK population but contributes almost 20% of its GDP and is a world leading financial capital. But I guess I missed the importance of being a hard man from the north somewhere along the line.

Cant believe people are actually talking about a North/South divide, what year are we in?

Whilst on the subject though, I don't think there was any trouble in Leeds... There was an unrelated shooting incident that had a crowd, no trouble though.

I suspect this riot is like many, a relatively small number of genuinely enraged rioters is joined by a much larger mob looking to have a laugh, and loot.

(When the Queen visited Ireland a few months ago, some of the groups protesting were recruiting people on the street 'Want to head to Dublin and have a bit of a riot?'. No political or social agenda for those joining in; in fact you could see many of them laughing as they were filmed on TV).

Best wishes to those in London/Birmingham over the last few days. It might be a little callous to say this, but I'm glad I don't live over there. It would make my blood boil seeing that.
