I turned it off last week to prepare for losing it and I can’t say I’ve really missed it. If anything I’ve realised how rarely I actually used it.
Well, you wouldn't be losing it, just some aspects of it would be different and more in line with how things are done with Haptic Touch.

I use 3D touch frequently, but where it's definitely going to be different is where I use it the most, which is when I need to move the cursor while writing text. With 3D touch I can press firmly anywhere on the keyboard and it instantly goes into cursor mode. With haptic touch it's not instant and you can only do it on the space bar. Seems like a tiny thing, and I suppose it is, but I love the instant responsiveness and more usability of 3D touch.

Cursor mode is the only reason I used 3D touch. If you install Gboard you can press the spacebar in haptic touch mode and instantly control the cursor by sliding left/right, no waiting. I like Gboard better than the stock one anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't used Gboard, so I'll give it a shot.

3D Touch & Haptic feel so similar to me. Won’t miss 3D at all. Press or hold same diff to me. Works the same.

Can you still peek and pop messages on devices like the XR and 11?

Just got the 11P, have X. Wow its so much slower. Tried it on display model first and thought maybe it was set to slow, nope that was meant to be fast. Oh well, guess will get used to it. Pretty sure it's faster on iPad but not tested it.

I never used 3D Touch very much at all, but my problem with haptic touch is that it's hardly a "long press" and thus it's far too easy to accidentally activate. I've switched it to "slow" which has helped a bit but I'm still finding myself accidentally activating it a few times a day, compared to never with 3D Touch.

I wish the haptic touch options had an even faster option under touch duration. It currently feels much slower than 3D touch did. Also missing the ability to hard press to select words on the keyboard.. I guess it's something we all have to get used to eventually.

Long press is a good, not great, facsimile of 3D Touch. In all honesty, the battery is worth the removal, IMHO.

I definitely prefer long-pressing the screen to animate the wallpaper.

3D touch is not only faster, it is less annoying. Example.... I'm reading a web page and indescrimently put my thumb on the page to begin scrolling once I'm ready. If i happen to hit a picture or URL, I annoyingly get a preview and shortcut menu pop up. With 3D touch, I do not have to worry about where my fingers are on the screen or how long they have been there. It requires extra force to activate the same.
I have the same issues with the 3D Touch replacement. Scrolling on a webpage and resting your finger on the photo just too long and it pops up. Very very annoying.

definitely prefer 3D touch —its significantly faster than long press. i’ll begrudgingly get used to long press, though...

No doubt that I'd much rather Apple kept 3D Touch, and am angry about the loss; if there is any silver lining to be found here, I guess its that losing the pressure-sensitive screen has helped to create that 5 extra hour battery life in the 11 Pro Max (and 4 hours in the regular 11 Pro)?

Don’t really get the moaning. Haptic touch is fine.
People hate change. As someone with a fresh perspective on iOS's input, only having an iPhone a few months, 3D Touch is heavily overrated.

I compared the times of 3D touch vs Haptic touch on my XR, and there's minimal difference when 3D touch is working correctly. It just doesn't seem that way because you're putting slightly more effort into 3D touch. I've also had issues with inconsistency using 3D touch on my XR and Apple Watch. Not with long presses in any form.

I think what you’re overlooking is the fact that 3D gave you functionality that a long press can’t (at least not the way Apple has chosen to implement it).

When I’m editing text, I can press to bring up the cursor, then press deeper with the same finger to select text. That sequence is pretty seamless, compared to long pressing The space bar (which means you’re limited how far you can move the cursor down the page), then using a second finger if you want to highlight text. It’s not a bad solution, is just objectively inferior. That’s just one example that has little to do with speed.

There is nothing wrong with change. I loved 3D Touch, but I value the additional battery life, so from my perspective this was a change I was willing to adopt. And it’s pretty clear that the majorly of people never used it, so scrapping it is the correct move from a business standpoint. But I disagree with the “Haptic touch is the same thing”. It’s clearly inferior to 3D Touch, even if you personally see no value in it.

I've used 3D touch since it first came out and use it a hell of a lot, and now on iOS 13 on my XS Max it's bloody terrible being forced to use haptic touch. It is slower and very easy to accidentally activate, never once did I open the menus by mistake on 3D touch. It's extremely disappointing Apple removed this feature.
Pathetic they would remove from devices that support 3D Touch. Something we have paid for and Apple removing.

I stopped trying to use it when i realized that they are likely phasing it out and not able to make it more useful. Only ever use the keyboard cursor movement thingy. Which is easily replaced.

I enabled the slow touch on my Pro Max and it works fine. I never really used 3D Touch so it’s not a huge loss for me. Rather I should say Haptic Touch was easy to adapt to.

You only lose 3D Touch if you upgrade to iOS 13. Which Apple provide for free. So you aren’t losing anything you have paid for.

The reality is, supporting features costs developer effort, even if you never enhance or improve them. So keeping a feature around for a marginal user group would cost everyone utility along the way.

And I say this as a person who liked and used 3D Touch.

Are you saying your XR has 3D Touch? Your XR doesn’t have the hardware necessary so I’m assuming your comparing it to a phone that is capable of 3D Touch?
