I'm bummed to lose 3D Touch - which was nice for the few situations which called for it. But I've gotten mostly used to haptic touch, which is 90% percent as good, and I will gladly take the extra battery life.
Not really sure it was really a trade off between 3D Touch or noticeably better battery life.

Not sure why you’re even commenting with the snark. Long press is not usable compared to 3dt. Nobody knows about the abilities of long press either, except to delete an app.

Long press has been used on Android and Windows devices for time immemorial. Everyone knows about it.

Nobody knows about it on iOS except to delete an app. More people know about 3dt. 3dt just works properly.

Apple removed 3DT from the XR as an experiment and it seems everyone caught on to long press which is the very reason 3DT was shelved from the flagships too. This suggests long press was found to be more intuitive than 3DT.

Apple didn’t incorporate 3dt into the xr to keep costs down and it seemed the xr populace for the most part, didn’t catch on to long press.

Just like you say everyone caught into long press, I say very few caught onto it, except to delete an app, which has been there for ages.

This suggests the removal of 3dt had little to do with how intuitive it was and everything to do with cost.

Of course no proof exists either way, like the haptic feedback on the 7 which was claimed to be insanely slow.
