The oddest thing about last night's episode was that is was so linear. It wasn't told with scores of interwoven flashbacks and flashforwards. The scenes didn't constantly flip from one character to another as in so many episodes of late. I was confused by the lack of confusion!

At a minimum, they should have showed you the shadow of a body hanging by a wire at the start of the show, then let you wait an hour to find out if it was actually Locke, and how he ended up that way.

There were a couple episodes like that. The Other 48 Days was one of them.

I LOVE YOU APPLE!

I'm hoping you guys didn't forget to watch.....! :D

Solid episode, nothing too exciting though. Funny to see a lot of things from the past again (the runway, Ethan, BEN!)

I saw something that kind of struck me as a little odd.

When Hurley and the other survivor went to the "building" they found Jack's father and he had about 6-10 photo's in frames all showing recruits for the Dharma group the camera panned around them and then he said " Let's see" and he looks them over and picks one out showing them in a group photo of new recruits. Then it goes to the scene where they are having their photo taken. So we really arn't sure what time they are in. Also.

This building is the same one that in the future is the shack all covered in underbrush.

Hurley wasn't there with Christian (Jack's father). That was Frank Lapidus and Sun. They were in 2007. Hurley was with everyone else in 1977.

Nothing much brought to the table but a nice continuation still, at least it wasn't a tidying up episode (although it was brilliant) like The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.
Good to see the runway bit tied up. That had been puzzling the life out of me since they introduced it in series 3. Wasn't happy with Suns actions though. Sure she didn't trust Ben but by knocking him out she ensured that the pilot (name escapes me) would have to leave his passengers. A bit selfish that IMO, even though they seem quite capable of looking after themselves.

I liked the tie-ins to younger versions of characters we know, I was wondering when the young Ben was going to show up!

I think the writers might be teasing us again with the model for the "Swan" station the guy was working on in the "Flame" station. That guy implied that the Swan was not yet built, which means we could finally find out what the hell the button was for and why it was needed.

Oh my gosh! The runway! I bet that's why they were building it. They knew another airplane was coming and wanted to make sure it would land safely. I didn't think of that at all. Nice catch.

I got the names wrong but Christian was asked by Sun "where are we ? ". Christian then looked at the framed pictures on the wall. Picked one out and said "Let's see. You're in 1973". I remember that much. He may have said 1977 but he didn't say 2007. This means he isn't Jack's father because Jack is now with Dharma in 1977. Christian is Ben's father.

When Frank & Sun were with Christian they were in the Dharma camp building. Based on the run down state of it, I would say it was well past 2007 and likely they are further in the future. He was showing them a photo of their friends from back in 1977 so they could see where they were/are.

The Dharma camp was still in good condition in 2004/5 when the "Others" were living there. It got roughed up some when the thugs from the freighter came to the island and shot it up. Based on the condition it was in last night, I would say that it's at least 2007, but maybe later. Do you think in 3 years between 2004-2007 the Dharma/Others camp would become that run down and overgrown?

Does anyone remember when Hurley found the Dharma bus a couple of seasons back? there was a dead guy inside right?! my friend told me that the name tag on the guy was LaFleur....Can Anyone confirm this!!!

The guy in the van was Ben's dad, Roger. The uniform said "Roger" and "Workman." We later saw the flashback to where Ben killed his father in that van.

I just watched that part again and you have the dialogue a bit wrong. Sun asks, "Where is my husband?" and Christian replies, "He's with your friends" and shows them the picture of 1977. He then says, "I'm afraid you have a bit of a journey ahead of you.

Sun isn't in the picture.

Thanks for setting me straight. From what you just watched did you get the impression those photos are of different times? Or simply different groups of recruits. They all looked old.

They are old. At least 30 years old. It seems they took photos of each group or recruits and hung them on the wall. We just saw them still hanging in an old run down building 30+ years in the future.

ZachsMacDaddy is right, they are all about 30 years old and it looks like they are from each batch of recruits. Christian points his flashlight at the different pictures mumbling "'79, '76, '78..." until he finally finds the '77 version with Jack, Kate, and Hurley in it.

If that building was in say 2007 how could Christian be Jack's father? This would make Jack almost 70 in 2007 because he is with the Dharma group in 1977.
Actually it would make almost all of the survivors almost 70 in 2007.

There's another time jump coming.

Here's an interesting perspective from the L.A. Times :

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/03/lost-finally-so.html

I think you're looking at this too linear.

Jack travelled back in time to the 70's. That doesn't translate out to a change in his birthdate, just to where he is at this point in the show. Right now he's in 1977. The day before he was in 2007. Depending on the show's plans, he may well end up back in 2007 at some point.

Christian is Jack's father. Ben's father was a workman for the Dharma Institute back in the 70's.

He did not say they were in 1973. They are clearly in 2007. He didn't have to say that they were in 2007 because Sun and Lapidus didn't time travel and would have no reason to assume that they did.

i don't remember the runway from past episodes. hmm, when was this?

When Kate and Sawyer were captives of the Others in the Polar bear cages in the Dharma camp they were put to work breaking rocks. When they asked why, Juliet said they were building a runway.

we still don't have any answer to one of the main questions in the latest batch of events:
why would Jack, Kate, Sayid and Hurley travel back to '77 while Sun and Frank remained in 2007?

I'm guessing in sun's case it could be the 'lack' of her baby, so she is not the same who left, but what about frank? daniel, miles and charlotte travelled, so why not him?

very transitional episode. i think they had all of them a bit too underwhelmed by the reunion. after all, that is what they were supposed to be looking for.
