"Ellie" killed her son because she knew he would blow the place up. She can't have that happen because there's one person missing. Desmond.

Desmond has been there and he knows it. If Daniel had blown up the island what would have happened to the world with Desmond knowing ?

Besides Elloise told Daniel that if he returned to the island it would cure him. He's not going to die. If he does that will set off Jack to find a way to bring his body back to 1954 thus bringing him back to life and where he ( and Ellie and Widmore) started from.

Daniel knew his mother would shoot him, it's part of his plan, i assume ofcourse, but that's why he was so upset the whole episode, he knew what was coming. The threat was his feeble attempt to ensure he gets shot, and even tho Richard read through it very easily, Daniel knew his mother wouldn't.

He knew he had to die. It explains a lot - very interesting theory.

Yeah.... okay, I totally see that now. I should try to digest the episode before I start posting all willy-nilly.:p

That makes sense. That's why he went into their camp with guns a blazing- he knew what he was doing, in the same way that he knew what he was doing when he acted all crazy with Dr. Chang and told him about Miles.

I wonder if the gun he chose has any significance? It looks very different (much older-looking) from all of the other guns around.

Is he really dead though? It seemed like he was killed, but who knows? Although, I had a feeling someone may die when he told Jack while they were on their way to the Hostels that anyone could be killed- anyone. Looks like he was talking about himself. It seemed like a pretty awkward statement at the time, so I guess he was foreshadowing his own death.

you think that he knew he had to die through the whole ep? i dunno he seems pretty surprised that it happened.

I think he knew. Surely makes a very good point - he made that awkward comment about how ANYONE could die. Also, he had no reason to bring a gun in to the camp. This seems like the most likely scenario.

how do we know for sure if Faraday is actually dead?
Obviously we don't know for sure until they are buried in the ground (with dirt to make sure they can't escape *cough*Nikki/Paulo*cough*) but I think it was pretty clear that he was dead.

Nieval brings up an interesting theory that I think I agree with. Is the journal that Hawking gives Farraday the same one he has on the island? The signature that his mother left him "No matter what, I will always love you" pretty much hits hard at the end when she kills him. I'm trying to think about this theory, I dunno...

i guess that maybe he knew that he was going to die but not how. because he seems pretty surprised when he finds out that it was his mother.

and i agree that comment he made was a definite foreshadowing of his death. i just am not totally convinced. the reason being he seemed pretty hell bent on stopping the "incident" at the swan from happening. do you think that he knew that Jack would take it over and that he could trust him?

Going off Elouise's talk with Widmore about sacrifices I think we can assume he's dead. Though I hope not, Daniel was friggin brilliant.

That might be what they want you to believe, being Lost and all. The sacrifice might be that the Losties will not be able to leave the island. Effectively making Daniel dead to Elouise who can no longer return.

I think it was the very same journal.

If I remember correctly, he went to Jack first when he got on the island. He probably knows Jack is important, and has been the leader on the island (among the Oceanic survivors) since the beginning.

What I am wondering is what he did while off the Island. I always assumed he was finding his mother, but she was on the island the whole time. How long was he off the island? For the whole 3 years, or for a significantly shorter amount of time due to the Island's time properties? Who did he see/what did he learn that made him wise of everything going on?

Ok we'll im cool with that sinario i guess. it's just i never thought that he knew he was going to die until i came onto MR. makes sense now that i think about it.

we'll probably have an episode that explains what he was doing. i dont think that we ever know when he left. i do think that it is pretty interesting tho that in this episode we see the same scene that we did at the beginning of the season where Daniel is down in the Orchid and bumps into Dr. Chang. i wonder why they picked it to be at the beginning of the season as well as in this episode?

Notice- Farraday isn't dead yet. He's just been shot. (Twice right, one in the neck that grazed him?)
He isn't officially dead, but he does that whole blank stare lay motionless thing that they always do in TV when someone dies :D But it is Lost and he could somehow recover, but my money is on him being dead. Eloise talked about sacrifice to Widmore, so 07 Eloise knows that 70s Eloise killed her own son. Hence Daniel saying "you knew, and you still sent me."

Not meaning to spoil anything but the actor who plays Daniel, the name escapes me, isn't cast in the next episodes. I think he's dead dude..

Yupp, when Eloise killed Daniel (70's), Daniel said "I'm your son", so Eloise throughout her life, knows that she will one day send back Daniel, and her past self will kill him. (Maybe that's why she's so weird and says that Daniel doesn't have any time?).

But, still-Daniel and Eloise and Whidmore (That how you spell it?)!!!
*Does Daniel's weird finger/ sideways glance thing* So, that makes Penny his half-sister, so that means that his brother-in-law is Desmond.

Okay, I had nothing to say, I just wanted to do that. xD.

I'm thinking that SOMEHOW everybody is connected to each other (The oceanic crashers that survived, And the people from the freighter)

Also, Daniel says to (The red-head chick, name escapes me) "Whatever happens, you must get off the island"
That means, that if she doesn't listen (Which I don't see a reason she needs to), she will stay on the island, so the bomb would never go off, because they NEED to meet in (Present day) for time to work itself out.

I thought this was an incredibly well-done device. That scene piqued so much curiosity, and it didn't come all together until the second to last episode? This is the reason I love LOST so much.

Daniel didn't "bump" into Chang. Remember he was sitting in the jeep and was asked what he was doing he said wait any time now. Ok there he his. That's when Chang drove up. Daniel knew the exact moment Chang would arrive which tells me he knew what was going to happen as soon as he entered the others camp. He knew he was going to die. Which makes me believe it was in his journal.

So..He knew his mother "Ellie" would kill/shoot him.

Charlotte is his girlfriend that's why he told the young Charlotte to get off the island.

Do we know that, or is that an assumption we're supposed to make?

I don't think we know that for sure. Charlotte was never officially his girlfriend. Before she died (during the flashes), he told her that he loves her, but they didn't specify what kind of love he meant. His sister? His daughter? Who knows what that time-traveling pimp was capable of ;)

So I guess that when Desmond called people "brother", he was most accurate when talking to Daniel......

I wonder if we'll be seeing Desmond again or not. It seemed like the scene in the hospital bed was his 'goodbye'. (Plus, the actor playing him was accused of sexual harassment on the set, so who knows how that will affect the plot....)

Not to mention when Farrady first got to Jack, he seemed quite bitter when he asked Jack how Eloise had convinced him to come back to the island. Almost in a way that would suggest you can't believe anything she says.

woah what happened with Cusick (guy who plays Desmond)? when did this happen? i dont think they can just write him out now.
