Oh, I see last week's preview makes more sense now.

Edit: That's how he knew about the bathroom. Where the hell did that video feed of Jack come from.
My Spidey sense is tingling!

Edit2: That was way better than last week. Hated having all that build up on Locke for a lame resolve. This episode was good. Good and creepy. Creepy ending. Next week? Cat fight! Meow!

When they said 16 back to back all new episodes of Lost they should have mentioned that only about 3 of those episodes would advance the plot.

I love it when they tease you with "one of the characters is going to DIE" only to have it be some random characters that you've never seen but once. They even went so far as to digitally put them into the first season ala George Lucas. Fun.

i've been usually pretty patience with the show even through the not so great episodes, but this was the first real one to upset me. its seems like there was really no point niki and paolo in the first place. the backstory really didn't expose any past connections to any other character other than the small link with boone and shannon, and the what they experienced on the island was only revelant to themselves and not to the other characters or the island. it really doesn't make a major deal that they found the hatch before, (other than he saw ben and juliet, or got the radio) but no one else knew or will ever really know that, and for them to die right away. it just felt like a waste to go through all that trouble to introduce them this season on the show and have recreate earlier episodes clips to show that they were in fact there, just to get bit by spiders and buried alive. hopefully somehow later the show with do something that will make their characters meaningful but as of now, i feel the characters should've never been introduced and this episode could've of focused on better things. sorry i just had to vent.

It's almost like they introduced them just to flesh a couple of things out, stretch the story without advancing it, then kill them off in a creepy but cool (storywise) way. It's either a really good filler episode, or a really bad and pointless arc that means nothing and will never be mentioned again. At least we learned a couple of things, like the thing with Charlie and Sun, and that Sawyer is yet again shown to be a bad boy who isn't really that bad. Then Desmond can say something moody, Charlie can crack an uncomfortable joke or 2, Sun can impart some wisdom then kick some ass, Jin can have a couple of lines thrown in so he can get paid that week, you see a couple of flashbacks of the airport and people who've died, a little Jack thrown in so we don't forget about him, and Hurley stands around saying dude, showing he can be funny and dramatic.

Look for a few more of these when the writers run out of ideas and don't feel like answering questions.

I don't really know what to say about this episode. Nikki isn't hard to look at, so an hour of mindless television didn't bother me too much for some reason.

I liked how Paulo walked around the lake to dive off the rocks... WTF??? Even my wife who isn't a Lost fan asked why...

The corpses still in their chairs was kind of humorous, as well as him finding his bag wedged between something on the first dive.

What can potentially come of last nights episode?

Well we don't have to witness their bad acting anymore! LOL

The walkie talkie thing might open up some dialog between the Others camp and the Losties.

Ben and Julia never entered the Pearl Station? from a hatch. There must be a way to travel underground (or from another hatch).

Julia commented on Jack being cute, and we now have confirmation that the whole Michael plot was specifically designed to get Jack to do the surgery.

Previews to next week have Kate and Julia slugging it out (mud wrestling - hey I can dream!)

It looks to me like they are trying to broaden their appeal and bring back viewers. The Lost plot became so deep and intertwined that a new viewer couldn't come on board and actually figure out what was going on. I think thats why we are seeing these self-contained shows that aren't answering anything.

Lets see if Nikki pops out of the sand next week, since her eyes opened first when they were burying her. Maybe they'll get the idea to use the spider poison to knock out the others from her.

You know, maybe the point of that episode was to remind us how long they've been on the island... because to us, they've been there going on 3 years.

But no, we already knew that about Charlie and Sun... I had just forgotten about it.

I thought that last night's episode was actually pretty good. Sure, the ending creeped me out a bit, but they deserved it.

What I thought was interesting was the fact that these bozos knew so much that could have helped the group out much earlier, but didn't reveal it because they were too concerned about the diamonds.

Examples:

1. The Pearl Hatch. Which, of course, might have led them to other hatches earlier.
2. Ben and Julia and the plot with Michael. Or, for that matter, the Others in general.
3. The other plane.
4. The radio to the others.

While it didn't significantly advance the plot, it did give us a view of events from a different point of view, and shed some light on how early on the Others were targeting Jack.

True, it did shed some light on a few things, but the episode in general just seemed like complete fluff. I will give into the fact that I liked it as an episode taken outside of the storyline, but taken into account that this is a show where we have so many un-answered questions, it didn't help much.

I do have a few questions though,
1. Why did Ben leave the walkie in Pearl?
2. What happens to Cannon now that it has been retconned to add these two into previous episodes?

I really didn't enjoy that. At this stage, just over half way through series 3 and they're not advancing the plot? Hmm.

Did the pearl hatch scene clarify that Julia is, and was always working with Ben?

I just see that episode as a way for the writers to show off "look how well we can tie previous sections together!". Just wasn't keen.

It was fluff.. but it was a calculated show that was made specifically for viewers who were tired of new people being added, needlessly increasing the already complicated plotline. It was a bone thrown to us.. sorry for these two. Now they're dead. 'Orrible way to go, eh Brotha?

Yeah, looking back on the episode, I thought it was very very good. But it didn't really do much for the plot, but I am not dissapointed. The last minute was creepy when she opened up her eyes but it was too late.

Ok for those of you who bought the episode (or have it on PVR) can you check out the flashback of the plane crash? In one shot with Nikki (or maybe Shannon screaming) the background has a man in a dark suit just standing there. To me he kind of looked like Jack's father, it was over in a flash and I never saw him again so if someone could let me know I'd appreicate it.

Before this episode I just assumed that they found the bathroom after searching the Pearl station. It is kind of cool to see that they can 'go back' to past episodes and reveal more perspectives/story lines. BTW the video of Jack was the CCTV feed in the button hatch.

I don't think there's an undground passage, I think I heard them comment that someone must have left the hatch open when Paulo noticed them coming down.

I thought the episode kind of had this old twilight zone morality ending to it. I kind of liked it! I did get frustrated with them for not telling the rest of the Losties about the points you mentioned. However I thought the mention of Michael might have been mistimed... it seemed to me that they only made the deal with Michael when Ben was locked up in the button hatch.

I agree that this episode didn't really do anything to advance the plot, but I kinda liked it. As pilotError pointed out, it helped that Nikki was pretty easy on the eyes. ;)

But I also enjoyed the whole inside-joke nature of the episode. In the beginning flashback, Nikki's character on "Expose" gets killed off, foreshadowing the fact that her character on "Lost" is being written out of the show. And then Sawyer gets to repeat his question, as a kind of proxy for the audience: "Who the hell is Nikki?" We never really got to find out who Nikki and Paolo were until now, even though they've been lurking around in the background from the beginning, and those kinds of additions to the storyline seem to be the show's writers' way of poking fun at the fact that they never did get around to developing these characters.

Definitely a morbid and creepifying ending...

I figure that Ben's plan all along was to get captured by Reusseau and end up as a prisoner of the Losties, thus facilitating the trade for Michael. If they just let Michael go it would have been too suspicious, but to send him back as a trade for Ben makes it more plausible and makes Michael more trustworthy.

The biggest problem with the episode again which is something that they keep doing, I understand why but it still bugs the heck out of me that they keep killing off characters they just wasted an hour telling the back story for. Part of the allure of Lost was learning the back stories and seeing how they play into character's future actions and interactions, which of course Paolo and Nikki will not have...

As for the next completely predictable plot lines (in white):
The next Charlie back story episode will end in Charlie's death. We know from Desmond that it's going to happen, just not when.

Locke will reconcile with his father only to have Sawyer find out he's the con man that f---ed up his parents life. Sawyer will then kill Locke's dad.

I can see these coming a mile away but you know the preview will talk about the "unexpected" events.

Before this epiode (which really didn't add to my theory anyroad), I noticed that the island has a way of dealing out wishes.

Hurley lost his "curse"... possibly.
Charlie is off the smack.
Jack saw his dad again.
Claire has a nice boyfriend (last one seemed a little... evil?).
Sun and Jin are closer.
Locke can walk again.
Ben had cancer and is seemingly now cured.
Michael got Walt.

They all came to the island missing something, and they've found it. Sorta.

Oh it's all silly.

I never thought Lost would resort to a 'filler' episode to this extent....it's getting harder and harder for me to defend this show to my brother, who complains they don't progress the show enough or only reveal very little...But i will keep defending it since it is still one of the few shows on tv that are still great :)

It doesn't look like him to me.

Did they have to recreate the crash scene? Because if they did, this would have been a very expensive episode to produce, otherwise Nikki and Paulo's scenes were filmed years ago and writer's had their characters in mind; not some last minute filler material.

Somebody should rewatch the first Lost episode to see if they can catch Nikki and Paulo in some of the frames... could be a nice effort to spot continuity errors too.

Thought about getting it off iTunes, but I hoped someone else would do it.

Well, I certainly agree it's silly...

;)

Actually, my interpretation of it all is that the "surviving" passengers are all in purgatory - everyone initially died in the plane crash, and those left "alive" are "lost", and can only move on after they find themselves...

I sorta gave up watching the show after I'd come to this conclusion - it, after all, seemed the logical explanation for what demons they were all trying to face.

• Locke, for example, couldn't walk - suddenly, after the crash, he can...

• NOBODY could survive a crash like that - let alone a pregnant woman who gets nothing more than a minor laceration to her head. Notice how there are no missing limbs, or massive trauma injuries? Even with seat belts there would be a few people cut in half at the very least...

• Locke, at one stage, tries to tell his fellow passengers that he's NOT afraid to die - and that he can understand what's happening, and wants them to let him go to what would be certain death. They hold him back, and he stays in the show...

• Michael's visual sightings of his father, and the discovery of his <empty and, may I add, UNDAMAGED> coffin lead to a large collection of metaphors referring to the tying up of loose ends in his life...

• The guy who got sucked up into the jet engine in the first episode had, in accordance to my understanding of the show, made peace with his life and was ready to move on to the next level - as did the other non-surviving passengers...

Oh, well - the show's entertaining the masses, and it's a success. What more could the producers wish for? I'm very happy for them!

:)

Thanks for the effort, but I don't think that was it. The guy I saw in the background had a dark suit with a white dress shirt on. Maybe I was just delusional... I spent most of the evening writing a book report.

I assume you mean Jack, not Michael.

And I thought it was pretty well established that one of the bodies Eko pulled from the water when we got the tailies' stories was Jack's dad's body.
