They were told to follow a bearing and they would get off the island. Yet the sub is apparently (was?) the only way off the island.

Walt has grown-up since the shows debut. I imagin it would be quite hard for the writers to explain his all-of-a-sudden-growth spurt if they were to bring him back.

I dunno, I remarked about the same thing to my wife. Sayid made a comment about the sat phone the woman from the helicopter had. Something along the lines of "never having seen such sophisticated equipment".
That remark and Locke's comment makes me think that some sort of time travel twist, just might be in the storyline somehow.
IIRC, yes, the others commandeered that vessel.
So they would still have a way of writing in another escape route.

That's odd, they'll be very short seasons then.
Why wouldn't they just leave it at 2 more seasons?Well it took them almost all of season three to pick up the story line left off at the end of season two where we see to guys sitting in some arctic landscape and picking up some weird signal. Walt and Michael left in the same episode I believe, so what's to say they won't bring them back soon? Only time will tell
Oh and if they were clever they would have pre-recorded all the episodes with Walt before he got all old...

Plus the shows will now have no ridiculous gaps/repeat periods so will run consistently for 16 weeks at a time. Seems a bit stupid to me when most other shows can run a full season of 22 or 24 episodes (like Prison Break to a certain extent but obviously 24 is the best comparison) and I've always felt this has seriously hindered Lost so that's sort of a good thing.Now who else was hoping for four (4) full seasons plus a little something extra (a shortened 5th)? Or maybe 108 episodes total? At least there's some definitive timeline. This should help the show out, I think.

No, Sawyer was already around when Locke's dad started to con, so there's no way that Locke's dad is Sawyer's dad.
The confusion probably stems from the fact that Sawyer ran a similar con on a woman who became pregnant with his child, and then put all the money in an anonymous trust fund for the kid.
48 episodes would work out well for 2 more seasons. 22-24 episodes per season, and a few left this season could easily hit 48.
So that's why the VW bus was full of beer. Driven by one Roger Workman.

Here's my thought (MAJOR spoilers):
Ben is the only person who can hear Jacob. Ben couldn't hear what Jacob said to Locke. This instantly makes Locke a MAJOR threat to Ben, thus, Ben must kill him.
And what's with Richard never aging? That was Richard, right?

I bet they don't even bring up Jacob and Locke's fate for the rest of the season.
Richard is an avatar for the black smoke. Like most of the dead people we see on the island. No seriously. If all of Ben's Others are people he selected to come to the island then who are the natives. And where are they now.
Well hope we get to see what Danielle was planning to do with that dynamite next week.
edit: Woah, would the gas have some link to the sickness that plagued Danielle's people 16 years ago? Maybe Jacob is just one of the natives. And you have to be a little insane just to see them.
