Old news

It's old news as they already stated how much longer the show would run back in the fall, but The length and taking a page from 24 for the coming seasons is new.
ABC announced on Monday that it has planned an end—in 2010—for Lost. This is a good thing, and it comes at the request of producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

It means the writers can plot a course to the ending, and reveal secrets and twists with some kind of plan instead of wandering aimlessly and dragging things out until we no longer care, like the late seasons of The X-Files.

It also means ABC is taking something of a high road and not milking the show for every last penny and ratings point (see: NBC and ER).

“We always envisioned Lost as a show with a beginning, middle and end,” Lindelof and Cuse said in a press statement. “By officially announcing exactly when that ending will be, the audience will now have the security of knowing that the story will play out as we’ve intended.”

That will still give Lost six seasons on the air and nearly 120 episodes, and that’s a solid length of time for a show with a mystery. The last three seasons will each have 16 episodes, instead of the usual 22, and they will run uninterrupted by repeats.

Am I the only one who now has second thoughts about Lost? Why did they kill off Locke... they are running out of cool characters. I guess this one will go unexplained - does anyone remember the episode where Locke had a flashback and he was a pot farmer?? Please Lost, get better. Wasn't the season finale supposed to be next week?

As usual, I'm even more lost.

Hey, I finally got what the title really means!

(ok, I doubt I'm the first person to make that joke, but I'm serious... WTF is going on)

well they all could be dead, so locke getting shot by ben, eh. i don't think he's dead at all. somehow he'll get of the hole. now i wouldn't put money one it of anything. this one one of the best shows for locke, kincking a** and taking names, loved it. then he got shot. ok not so good. can't wait till next week!

As i remember when the producers were casting for actors they already knew who they wanted to play as Locke. They had basically written the character for him. I don't think they'd write off someone like that.

On the island you can heal faster, plus locke has healed a broken back so a gun shot wound shouldn't be that much.

It looked like a bad place to be shot in. Then again Locke is tough. I don't think I would count him dead until his head was mounted on a pike. Even then I would be on the lookout for a headless zombie.

What was the powder that circled Jacobs cabin. Locke reached down and felt it before Ben hurried him along. Is that what makes up the smoke monster? Maybe smokey is Jacobs way of being able to materialize on lost island.

I get the feeling that Russeau (sp?) has been keeping an eye on Locke. She seems to pop out of nowhere lately.

OK, I have to say I usually don't go to the spoiler sites, because I like to be surprised, but there thetailsection got a frame from the Cabin scene, and there was someone in the room with Locke and Ben. Looks like they thought about the smoke monster as well.

Good episode, I still think Locke is fulfilling some sort of prophecy, as nobody made a move when Locke gave the Russian guy a beating. Ben looked visibly shaken, almost calling for help at one point. A little creepy, almost like they expected it to happen.

Of course Locke isn't dead.

I thought it was a bit interesting when Richard asked "Did she die on the island?", bringing up the healing side of things again.

This isn't fair! we're coming up to the finale! Please no more questions and cryptic answers, just 1 big cliff hanger. That's all we ever wanted.

Could the ring be salt? Keeping his spirit locked up to prevent havock (since he doesn't like technology and the Dharma folk have it in spades.).

Well desmond survived an exploding (imploding?) hatch without a scratch. I'm sure Locke will be back.

Here's the theory that I cooked up about last night's episode:

There isn't really a Jacob. Ben is nuts (think Norman Bates) and Jacob is an alternate persoality. When Locke's back was turned and he heard "Jacob" speak, it really was Ben speaking -- but Ben wasn't in control, and really doesn't know what Jacob said.

The calamity in Jacob's shack was all just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. I think it's quite possible that one of the hostiles took young Ben there and used it to scare him into believing in Jacob. The fear of Jacob is just something that they use to keep people in line.

Locke's going to be fine. The island will take care of him.

I still don't trust Juliet. No siree.

To me, Jacob looked like the (ghost) Captain of the Black Rock.

Looks kinda like Locke too. With hair of course.

I thought it might be volcanic ash for some reason, just because of Ben's childhood flashback to school on the island where they were talking about the volcanos on the island.

Don't have any idea what significance that would play, but that's what I thought...

i will say that was one of the creepiest lost ever! it made me jump a few times. is it just me or when lost is good it's really good! other times it's just so slow with to much backstory. last nights backstory was quick in interesting.

And what's with Richard never aging? That was Richard, right?

Didn't Dharma get involved with longevity experiments? Is it possible that the hostiles are subjects of these experiments or that maybe they have a natural longevity that made the island an attractive place to set up a base for studying?

This show is starting to get too far out there. I remember early on when it was going around the internet that the creators claimed there was a scientific explanation for everything, now we've got invisible men you have to kill your dad to see, people who don't age, an island that has healing properties (for some people), and smoke monsters... it's getting harder to believe that this is all scientifically explainable.

.

That would explain why Richard (that's the hostile's name right?) looks so young.

Hah! Whilst I was taking my dog out just after the episode, I started thinking and couldn't get that image out of my mind. Thought I imagined it or they put in some quick subliminal image. Turns out it was just a slow subliminal image.

Also got thinking - is there anyone on the island who gets on with their dad? Michael and Walt are the only 2 who come to mind. Part of me is thinking that Ben orchestrated all this to get people like him onto the island, or that huge chunks of this is just in Ben's head.

I, too, think Locke is fulfilling some sort of prophecy. Ben killed his father. Sometime later, Ben became the leader of the others. Ben is questioned when he is not healing whereas Locke has obviously been healed. Locke cannot kill his father in front of everyone and Ben says he is not who we thought he was. When Locke carries his father's body into camp, the look on everyone's face is a mix of awe and amazement. When Locke beats the Russian down, everyone stands back and watches sort of like watching a ruler beat down a subject (i.e. you don't like it but what are you going to do about it).

Well, if they think Locke is fulfilling a prophecy because he killed his father then Locke is obviously not the one they are looking for. Although, it is Richard who told Locke to get Sawyer involved.

Oh, and there was definitely someone in the chair after Ben gets thrown against the wall.
