I think the 6 have to be people from the flight so it rules out Desmond, Juliette, Ben, Mikhail, Richard, Reauseau, Alex, etc...

The media have had their hands on the passenger list for shortly after the flight disappeared and probably have photos of almost all the "victims."

I'm going to bet Claire (Desmond saw her get on the Helicopter, and Aaron, since he was not on the passenger list gets a freebie and does not count as one of the six), and Sawyer. Michael will also show up but he will have been gotten to by the controllers and not listed as part of the six, and will be the one in the coffin.

I think Ben has ways on/off the island we don't know about, and it's a war between Ben and his people, and the Hanso foundation. I think the girls unnamed boss from this episode is Hanso himself.

Ben had the submarine, and I think it was pretty well established last season that he (and others?) were using that to come and go.

I've been thinking about the bracelet that Naomi was wearing, and which we also saw in Sayid's flash-forward. Weren't the initials at the end of the inscription "R. G."? Is that Robert Goodwin (one of the Others' doctors), or do we know of another "R. G." yet?

What about Richard? Could he be trying to remove Ben?

Yeah, the Submarine was one method for coming and going, but Ben didn't seem too upset at it's loss... I think he has other methods for getting around.

I automatically assumed R.G. was a woman when I saw the bracelet.
Based on the inscription it sounded like the bracelet was a gift to the women (Naomi and the coffee shop girl) from someone else. I guess technically that someone else could have been a woman too, but I think we can assume that "R. G." is a man.

It looked to me like Sayid's german girlfriend was wearing the same bracelet. And he certainly seemed interested in it.

Beyond that, gah.. this series just makes no sense. Start making sense! Something! Anything!

What I was trying to say was that as soon as I saw the inscription on the bracelet, I immediately thought the writer's intention was to introduce a lesbian character and eventually reveal Naomi as gay (or bisexual, I suppose).

Is Kate a known? I mean, we know that she returns at some point but is she part of the original Oceanic 6?

Yes, because in next week's preview, they show a TV report of the Oceanic 6 arriving home and they close up on her face with celebrity-style sunglasses on.

Before that, I agree that it was up in the air whether or not she was in hiding and not part of the celebrity six.

(Sorry to spoil that if you don't watch the previews!)

I think just because someone gets on the helicopter or visits the ship doesn't automatically mean they get back home.

Somehow, I don't think Claire is one of the six.

I think the person in the coffin is one of the 4 rescuers who were introduced in the second episode of the season.

Last night I wasn't expecting Sayid to be part of the Oceanic 6, but I love how this (and Ben's appearance at the vet's) now adds depth to the flash forward story line. While the two bracelets have already been mentioned here (linking the two girls) did you notice that while the rocket shot towards the island arrived 30mins late, and the call to the German woman came 30 minutes early... could it be related (i.e is the person she called on the island)?

loved the episode. sahyid solidifies as my favourite character.

interesting catch about the half hour early/late.

i think the point about penny is that the 'fantastic four' know her as her father's daughter, and he is involved.

there is one point i am unsure about. when they fist make contact with the 'shippers', don't they call jack, 'jack' before he tells them his name?
how do they know?

i just thought another thing.

daniel's experiment show that time moves differently on the island. the payload arrives 31 minutes 'late'.
but when where the clock synchronized? can we extrapolate how much slower is the time on the island, and therefore find out what date it is 'outside'?

Didn't Jack talk to the people on the boat and tell them his name at the end of last season? That's why they asked "Are you Jack?"

So here's a question that must have a really obvious answer but that is bugging me: where the heck are "The Others?"

There was that whole thing at the end of last season where they left their little community and took off - where did they go? Am I forgetting a major plot point since it's been so long between seasons, or have they writers just totally ignored them?

You'd think if there were all these other people running around the island, they'd have turned up by now. At the very least, to look for Ben.

All we have is Ben, Juliette, Alex, Alex's boyfriend and that's it, right??

Ben claims to have "a man on the boat". The fact that they immediately identified Jack suggests the man on the boat knows who is on the island and has described to the rescuers who they're likely to run into. Suggesting that Ben's man on the boat is probably Michael.

They were heading to a place called the Ruins lead by Richard Alpert. The producers have said that because Nestor Carbonell is busy with "Cane" they'll have to revisit him and his storyline (and presumably the rest of the Others and the Ruins) at a later date.

If time moves differently, how come they can communicate at the same time over the sat phone and the woman on the boat gets the beacon at the same time Daniel sets it up, but she sees that the payload hits the beacon faster than it really does?

I hate Sayid. Granted, this episode rocked and his character got cooler, but he's so lame still. Bad actor, too dramatic, too convenient, and too annoying.

Ok this whole show got 100% more confusing since the beginning of season 4. I dont understand whats going on at all! :(

Btw, why would they cast an indian guy as an iraqi (sayid)? :D

So is saaid one of them?

Anyone else think that Bens person on the boat is Micheal and Walt... explaining walts growth would be the time difference (as the producers stated back in season 2/3 that they had sorted out walts growth as time passes)...

Also since episode 8 is centred around michael this seems more and more likely...

Your thoughts?

That is the current accepted theory among the Lost community, or at least the one with the largest following. My question is: how would Michael have become Ben's spy? When he went off on the fishing boat (that viewers pointed out could not make it accross the ocean to any other land mass) was he already working for Ben? Did Ben convince Michael to put on a show, demanding to be sent home with Walt when all along he was told about the freighter and given a way to spy on them for Ben? How long was the freighter out there? How long has Ben known about it?

The fact is, we know Michael's not only rejoining the main cast this season, but will also make it to the Island again. Currenty, the freighter is the likliest way he'll get there whether he's working for Ben as his man or was picked up and is a prisoner or working with the freighterers.

That's a brilliant observation, Raid. Could the German woman's boss be on the island? Presumably, the island's electromagnetic properties are local to the island and its surrounding area, so if the phone call was affected by the island's time-delay phenomenon then one end had to be on the island or the boat.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ben doesn't have a man on the boat. He's a pathological liar, after all. He knew that saying he had a man on the boat would save his skin. He has other ways to learn about people's names and histories, as he did for the Losties, so his recitation of facts about the "rescuers" doesn't necessarily mean he has a spy among them.

Thanks :) The whole 'real time' boat/island communications did pose a problem to the theory but if they are in range of the same field it could explain it... really I try not to think about these things much anymore, I'm basically along for the ride now. ;)

Agreed, Abrams has this habit (read plot device) of keeping characters around that should have been shot in the first season (i.e. Ben Linus is the new Arvin Sloane). But since he's alive and well in the flash forwards I'd like to know how he manages to talk his way through it all.
