I thought we were done seeing Jacks background stories. This episode did nothing to add my further interest in what is going on on the island.

As others have said, ASK the "Other" man questions for crying out loud instead of getting all emotional during an intense situation where you are obviously surrounded. That so called fire side chat was probably the most frustrating thing in the episode for me. Almost screamed out-loud "Ask him more questions," etc.

I still have no idea why Jack has this thing about not wanting Kate to tag along.

I too found last nights episode maddening. When they met up with "Zeke" I was hoping for a few answers (I really should have known better) That conversation totally went sideways, hell even if Jack (Locke and Sawyer too for that matter) didn't ask about the Others motives, they should have asked how to get their @$$€$ back to civilization! I think we'll find that as much as the Others don't like the crash survivors they either need them or can't have them leave... but that might take another two or three seasons to answer....

As for Jacks history the whole 'another pretty face' thing was pretty lame. The show completely ignored the fact that Jack could have had more noble intentions and wasn't so oblivious to the increasing 'intimacy' with Gabriela. The one redeeming quality he displayed was walking away and fessing up immediately to his wife after the kiss. At least he was honest, and we found out his wife wasn’t…

Minor goof? - At the beginning of the episode, Jack was surprised to find Locke unconscious. Shortly afterward, Locke asked Jack how long he was out and Jack told him. How would Jack know the answer?
You may have something there, but it was mentioned that they were both on shift together. It's possible that Jack last saw Locke about 20 minutes or so before he heard Locke, or that Jack was only napped for 20 minutes... it's weak, but plausable.

A) The scenes with Jack cheating on his wife made me feel very uncomfortable
Did you get the impression that he truly cheated on his wife. The impression I got was that it was just a very passionate kiss. (call me Clinton, but I don't consider a kiss cheating). And it's not like you couldn't see it coming from a mile away anyway. The thing I like was that they answered the question as to what happened to Jack's marriage.

BTW, the one who really cheated was Jack's wife

i think it was just one of Sawyer's nicknames that he calls everyone...nothing more

Possible, but why did he give him a real name as a nickname, not like Doc, Mr. Clean, Pilsberry, Freckles...

Also, the face he made when he saw "Zeke" before Sawyer even said anything was a face of recognition, like he recognized him. And when Kate heard him call him Zeke, she looked at him like "WTF" I dunno though, maybe I'm try to pull more out of then there really is. I'll have to watch last nights episode again.

Of course he recognized him, "Zeke" was on the boat that intercepted the raft and he's the one who shot Sawyer.

I assume that Zeke was a nickname since the scraggly beard he kind of looks like a "Zeke."

yeah, i'm sure sawyer has no idea who he is, he would have made some comment since seeing him on the raft, and the man showed no recognition of him either.

of course, desmond didn't really show any recollection of jack..

Sawyer seems to be a very privet person when it comes to his personal life. Look how long it took him to tell Jack about what his dad said the bar. I don't know though. Now I need to watch the episode again.

I thought Sawyer said something to the effect of "That's the guy who shot me" when referring to "Zeke"

He did.

Also, Dr. Q - When Jack said "20 minutes," I just assumed he meant 20 minutes from when he got there. Also, it seemed like Michael had just knocked Locke out and grabbed his guns before Jack walked in to me.

Locke doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would go down on the first blow to the head. Isn't he like some sort of tough military man, while Michael is some whiny dude? This episode is boring. I wants to see more Eko! :D

I don't think we've learned how Locke is able to play Tough Mountain Man when he used to be a box factory desk jockey, more of a Milton or Dilbert than a crocodile hunter, with dreams of doing what he's now somehow able to do.

Michael's character has evolved from a hapless new dad to a single-minded force-to-be-reckoned with. The actor is good; he really did look crazed. I continue to think he is not out of his mind, but is instead following directions given to him on the computer by Walt or somebody posing as Walt.

yeah I saw it a mile away and I didn't like it coming. I don't know, it's not exactly cheating, but I'd be pretty upset if my significant other kissed someone else, which I guess makes it cheating in my books. as for feeling uncomfortable, it's just me i think. i get uncomfortable whenever I see anyone do something dishonest when it comes to relationships. for example if a friend of mine that had a girlfriend kissed another girl at a club one night, i'd feel uncomfortable and kind of sick to my stomach.
damn my parents and making me very moral about monogamy! lol :p

Who's saying they didn't ask? They cut from "Zeke" telling Locke to build them a fire and the next time they cut back there was a fire going. It would be kind of boring to have the questions asked just to have "Zeke" respond with "I'm not telling you that" to every question.

I'm saying they didn't ask.. because the audience wants to know. I'm sure it could have been crafted quiet easily to give one single "I'm not telling you that" that would encompass all the questions of that ilk.

Yes, but just because the audience wants to know is no reason for the writers to give it to us. We want to know the answers to a lot of questions that they aren't telling us in most episodes. Who's to say that they aren't going to have an episode focusing on "Zeke" and the others sometime in the future where they show more of the fireside chat? Or maybe they did film that scene and it just made the show too long and they decided to cut it and let things remain a mystery for longer.

Just because it was not shown does not mean that they didn't ask.

Just a funny thought. Perhaps we'll eventually learn that Zeke and his gang are the good guys and the Losties are actually invaders who have, whether intentional or not, caused great harm by usurping and sapping resources, stirring up the island spirits, disrupting the 108 minute cycle, or introducing pathogens (as Columbus did carrying pathogens from Europe to the Americas and back). Perhaps children are especially prone to carrying bacteria that threatened everyone, and must be "borrowed", forcibly if necessary, to be treated.

It wouldn't be the first time J.J. Abrahms had pulled a switch on us.

Or children are the only "clean" ones.. the untarnished ones. Nice thought.

I've been trying to place the "Others" guy's accent...he definitely had a distinct accent however I just can't decide where he's from...

Sounds pretty woodsy/southern to me. One might say... "redneck".

Ahh....thanks. I new it but I just couldn't come up with it at the time.

Now, that begs the question: what are rednecks doing on a south pacific island :p

But seriously, a lot of other people were really mad about this episode, but besides the fact that Jack's flashbacks are kind of boring, I thought there was a ton of potential. The whole deal with actually meeting the Others was awesome....I'm fine with being tempted and baited slowly, it only makes the big juicy details sweeter. :D

Thats exactly what i thought, the writers will give very little away about the Others and Zeke for a few episodes and they will have something to do with the season finale.....

The ending was quite intriguing, Jack asking advice on how to train an army from the police officer Ana Lucia

Anyway desspite what people said i thought this was a very good episode alot better than the last....

The season finale will be the two opposing armies, Losts vs. Others, marching toward each other for the epic battle, each side armed with sharp sticks and flinging coconuts.

I hope they don't end with another agonizing cliffhanger. But, I know they will. I want to know how Zeke and Sawyer know each other, and how Zeke wasn't harmed when they shot at him. Are there blanks in all their guns?
