well the difference is that dave never did exist in hurleys life before the island, actually. i think the reason he was able to talk to dave and jack couldnt was because he was able to in his past ( and it was still a hallucination). i think that the island is only as real as the people on it believe it to be, otherwise, who knows? the point is that nobody knows, so enjoy the show on whatever level it actually is on.

One thing id like to add though is that dave and desmond's last phrase was the same. They both said "See you in another life" before disappearing.

Oooooh the plot thickens....

Maybe the writers are hinting that after leaving the island everyone will have a "new" life?

Damn....nice catch.

Every time I watch an episode I remind myself that 'every character returns' (except those who died, of course), so every time a character "goes away" he'll come back and play a big part later on.

In Lost, nobody who is still alive is gone forever when they leave.

I just had a momentary brain problem.
If you are having a mental breakdown, perhaps Hurley and Libby can suggest a suitable institution. And Dave can help you get out again. ;)

But didn't Desmond say that to Jack before they were on the island? I don't remember it when he ran off from the hatch. Not to say it didn't happen, of course. Anyone have season one to confirm?

Heres a little mad theory.

But did anyone notice, I mean it's all part of the direction and build up and stuff, but Libby only appeared after Hurley's "friend" went. She just popped up like!
Have any other folk on the island been seen talking to her? Could she just be another imaginary person?

Come to think of it I think Sawyer mentioned her name. tossing that right out the window I suppose.

On a totally random note; maybe Lost is like the place where Lost things go... Eerie Indiana anyone? Surely I'm not the only person who saw that episode where they go into some weird world to get things that are lost.

Oh yea, my girlfriend refuses to watch series 2 till it's out in the UK. So I'm giving her a totally different story. I think she believed me until I told her in episode 18 Jack and Locke kiss. Hurley died when he got stuck going down the hatch. The "sickness" causes everyone to grow beards. ;)

I just realised that Libby is a shrink, but she was at a mental institute. Weird. :p

Actually she "claims" to be a shrink. Which is probably what I would do if I was a mental patient that had just crashed with a bunch of strangers on an island. Don't want them thinking I'm crazy...

Heck, spend enough time in therapy and you might even be able to fake it pretty well.

Confirmed. :)

Just re-watched the episode (Season 2 Episode 3). When Jack confronts Desmond outside the hatch, Desmond finally remembers that he has met Jack before and asks him about his wife. As he walks away, he turns around and says "See you in another life, yeah?"

Right. My assumption after last week's episode is that Libby isn't really a shrink after all.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that she IS a psychiatrist (who have training in Medical School, didn't she perform some medical stuff for the taillies?) who was institutionalized after having a breakdown because of one of her patients. Said patient had some sort of dementia that so intrigued Libby that she got too focused on it and got drawn into it until it consumed her.

Hmmm... I'll guess we'll have to keep watching to find out. :D

Actually, one thing that I'm still stuck on is the tear that Libby cried in that last scene. I mean, it's certainly reasonable to assume that she was crying because she has her own secret (about her mental illness) that she's holding back, and seeing Hurley struggle with his sanity is a very personal and emotional thing for her. But it sort of creeped me out all the same. I think there's still a lot more to Libby's story that we don't know yet.

Hmm I feel like I've only scratched the surface of Kate.. but you're right about Sawyer. He's pretty well explained away as a Right Bastard. Sun & Jin.. I feel like there's plenty to tell still. Such as, what is up with the watch and why did Sun decide not to run..
