You forgot the proper solution. Film 52 new episodes a year!

Dream on, Klingon. The only shows for which we coiuld get 52 new episodes a year would be reality shows... and I think we have PLENTY of those already.

Are you implying that Lost isn't real?

Some people think the day-time soaps are real, so I hope you won't shake my faith that Lost is actually a documentary too.

As a mathematician, you will of course acknowledge that it's a well-known fact that there is an inverse relationship between the quality of writing for a TV show (Q) and the number of new episodes that are created (N).

Q = 1 / N

On every day: the news...
On five days a week: game shows... TRL on MTV... talking heads shows on ESPN... soap operas...
On 22-26 episodes a year: Lost... 24... Scrubs...
On 12 episodes every other year: The Sopranos... Rome... Big Love...

See what I mean? :)

I'm very very excited for the end of the season yet also know that they'll leave it hanging on something I won't want to wait for. Unfortunately I'm getting rid of cable after next week and plan on just buying TV on DVD from now on. It's cheaper for me anyway since I don't watch a lot of shows... just stinks that I'll be about a year behind the rest of the world!

Also when Walt said "they're pretending" I think what he means is that their whole 'other' camp setup is fake. I think they're all kind of actors or something. I remember in an earlier episode Kate found a locker filled with fake beards and actors glue. And they made a point of saying actors glue rather than just glue. Just an idea though.

That was my immediate thought too.

Also, in the preview for next week, we see kate (I think its Kate) in one of the very quick flashes of scene at the end, and she is flying with her arms spread, looking very dead.

Hhmm.

Ok a few randoms thoughts flew into my head after last night's show. First since the Hanson foundation is indeed involved in a lot of crazy experiments, I thought of the possibilty that The Others, were interested so much in Walt because he was part of their experiment to expand human capabilities, like if some reason while his mother was pregnat with him she was secretly part of a Hanso experiment. The other random thought I had dealt with the fact that it seems at the beggining of the every episode it is the actor that plays Jack's dad that say's the line "Previously on Lost", which could possibly mean either they just like his voice, or that using his narration means he could be a secret pivotal role in truth about the island. Also it noticed in the season finale preview that there was a clip that featured for some reason the guy (i forgot his name) the previously occupied the hatch and had been entering the numbers into the computer and ran. Possibly meaning the return of him. And finally do you think that maybe we will find out the reason why the plane crashed on the island like the preview stated, and could it be linked to the counter hitting zero in the hatch, since when the survivors met the guy in the hatch and explained to him how long they had been stranded on the island, he seem to think back like he could reflect on that maybe being the day he let the counter hit zero.

I didn't know that was him!

That's Desmond. While watching this episode, I was looking to see if he was in The Village as Michael walked through. Didn't spot him.

I hope J.J. Abrams remembers that he "owes us" an explanation of why Libby was in Hurley's flashback to the hospital, as if she was a patient there but Hurley didn't know her at the time. I don't expect we'll be seeing more flashbacks from Libby's point of view.

By the way, those of you who quote me in this thread might want to remove the last two lines, otherwise my secret (and extremely complicated  ) technique for using a different signature than I have in other threads is a little too obvious to fool anyone!

yeah, I could never get a hang on that cut'n'paste stuff.

so what are our resident-numbers-geek's thoughts on the 'new numbers' on the log printout in the pearl hatch?

Dream on... or go watch Casualty in the UK. They used to have a summer break but its seemingly a new episode every week. 50 minutes long too. though nobody has died in it for 6 weeks now. *for shame*

I wonder what we're supposed to do here?

All but three of them give 403 Forbidden errors. ahanso leads to a bios on thehansofoundation.org. However hmcintyr and pthompso lead to what look like UNIX home folders. I haven't gone through them thoroughly, but I have a feeling only the mail folders are interesting. If you click on the mail folders in both hmcintyr and pthompso there are scanned documents. One is about Bad Twin, the rest are Jeep-related. Perhaps interestingly, this page has the phrase "the mouth piece" on it.

Sorry in advance if I'm late with all of this stuff. I haven't been following this thread, or the other Lost stuff besides the show itself very closely.

I just got around to watching this weeks episode, and unless I missed something HUGE, I've got to say that was the lamest episode of Lost I've ever seen. The whole one hour show was supposedly buildig up to something and all we got was 5 seconds at the end; a sail boat. WTF?

Everything that happened in this episode could have been done in less than 5 minutes of air time. Maybe one of you Lost experts can let me in on something I missed, or was it just an absolutely terrible episode?

At least they didn't string us along even more with twenty minutes of flashbacks and laundry-doing in the hatch.

I also just watched it last night. I kept thinking something big was going to happen, but really, nothing ever did. It was interesting insight into Michael's capture, and it's intriguing why they want the four they do, but I was hoping for more action.

Some things that I thought were of particular interest:

1. We found out Sawyer's real name, which at this point means nothing, but is interesting nonetheless.

2. Sawyer confides in Jack, saying he's the closest thing he has to a friend.

3. Walt looked to have aged about 3 years. That's the problem with child actors over multiple seasons where only short time supposedly passes.

4. No one other than Jack and Hurley spoke at the funeral. No one else ever speaks at the funerals.

5. Other than Michael's capture, there were no flashbacks.

6. Next week's teaser seems to say we'll get a lot of answers. Of course this means there will just be a ton more questions.

We had heard Sawyer's real name at least twice before, so this isn't exactly new... But it is a significant point in that the Others have official documents of some sort, not just word of mouth.

#3: I've read that they're going to explain Walt's growth at some point.

#4: You have to pay them more if they speak. ;)

i disagree with you that it was a poor episode, i would say it revealed loads of things (mainly to do with the others) and because of that i think it will be really important for the next episode and probably the next season.

anyway, who do people think on the boat? my vote goes for desmond

I think it's Desmonds boat too. I mean. He had to get to the Island, and a round the world race (was it?) seems likely he used a boat rather than a plane.

Desmond was top. He got me saying Brother again.

On a side note, anyone seen the new Channel 4 ident things that have actors/presentors from Channel 4 talking about random things? They have some Lost actors on there. Looks like Jack plays the guitar in real life. And Sawyer likes his distilled alcohol, or something.

yeh i saw those, they are pretty cool really.

well i know that desmond is back in hte next episode as the final is basically one big flash back for him.

OK, so I have only just now caught up on the last three episodes; "American Idol" has been cutting into my Wednesday night "Lost" appointment. :D

Has anyone else considered the possibility that Michael's mission (to bring Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley back to the Others' camp) is yet another experiment? That they (whoever "they" are) are testing him to see if he will betray his friends in this scenario?

We've pretty much established that they (the Others at the camp) are not who they appear to be, and are disguised to some degree. Walt also warned Michael that they're "pretending", and that they've been giving him "tests". I'm just wondering if Michael's their latest lab rat.

P.S. I watched the episodes for free on ABC's web site and it worked well, much better than I'd expected. The picture quality was very good. The main glitch I noticed was that several times, when I paused the player for a few minutes and came back and then tried to resume playing the show, it seemed to have lost the connection. The web site was still up, it just seemed to have stopped streaming. The only thing I could figure to do was to leave the web site, come back to it, re-select that episode, and then seek ahead to the same spot where I'd left off previously.

I noticed in one of the recent episodes -- maybe "?" -- when Mr. Eko is having dreams about his brother, he kept referring to Eko as "brother" in a way that reminded me of Desmond. I kept waiting for him to tell Eko, "See you in another life." :D

Wow those Lost previews during the Alias series finale were spoileriffic. If they are willing to reveal all that what are they not showing us? I doesn't look like they ever get to the Other's camp. Michael's sin is revealed. Desmond returns. There's an explosion in the hatch? They explore the boat before fallowing Michael.... that's all I can remeber. Didn't see any Others. What was that pile of stuff behind Jack and Michael?

Does all of England get the same basic channels? What about local news?
