Unless they send out invitations this week, this looks to be a quiet update.

With a chassis redesign almost a certainly it is unlikely it will be just a spec bump. Apple moves in mysterious ways, they might not do an event for it, even if they are large changes.

Another option is that they launch the new chassis with the current internal specs, so as not to gut the sales of Mac Pro and then do a Clarksfield update to them in the spring.

Quiet update tomorrow/friday? Although the shipping on the 9th thing isn't good, but they frequently put it way back and then back forward for new releases.

Might be using the new CULV Core 2 Duos in the low-end Mac Mini, at $499.

Hoping that this is the major redesign of the Mini that Apple would have done earlier this year if the mobile Nehalems hadn't been delayed.

But more likely it'll be a quiet update in 13 days time.

Completely agree. I expect all iMacs and the white MBs getting LED upgrades, which makes sense with Apple publishing their new green guidelines. Then a simple spec increase.

My dreams of a Mac Mini/Apple TV combo won't be happening unless they have an event for it so that's dead in the water.

Blu-Ray? Same thing, they would have to bundle this up as an entertainment/media play and that's not going to happen.

This happened with the :apple:TV and look what happened, not a lot, just a price change and removal of the low end model...

I think that the iMac is about due for an update. I wonder if it is a bit of a redesign that will surprise everyone. The mac mini getting a spec bump only will keep it in the same situation that it is in now.

Surely looking like about a week and a half before they are launched.

Time will tell.

At least one guy over at 123macmini reports his order for a low end mini shows a ship date of Oct. 14th.

I truly believe the iMac is getting a desktop CPU this time. I believe there will be at least two different CPU offerings and that's not clock speed.

I also think a new Mac mini case will prevail this time. I also think every Mac will come with Blu Ray internal or external drive offerings. I think we might also see USB 3.0... it would be very Apple-like.

"No" on all of the above. Especially the Bluray drives.

Time to update the iMac and Mac mini on the buyers guide to "Don't Buy - Updates soon"?

I'm really hoping that the Mini upgrade makes it worth the price.

Right now, I find it too expensive for what it offers - especially in the GPU department. If the Mini really is Apple's device for bringing people in to the fold, they're going to have to reduce their margins somewhat (say by 10-15%) and bring in better performing parts.

And if its a quiet update, its not going to be anything major... and if its nothing major, theres going to be a lot of disappointed posters on this forum.

I think that they would be justified in being let down. The last iMac upgrade was totally underwhelming and was primarily justified by the large price drop in the 24" iMac.

Apple really needs to do better this time, by giving a chassis redesign and a few of the features that other vendors have been offering for quite some time.

Snow Leopard would probably benefit tremendously from a quad core machine, so I really hope we see one.

For me personally if there isn't quad core, blu-ray and a matte screen option I won't be buying it.

Isn't that a standard modus operandi around here:

(a) Chorus of unrealistic and far-fetched expectations from overzealous Apple fanboys (and girls)

(b) Apple announces a round of incremental updates that are no where near "a"

(c) Chorus of overzealous Apple fanboys (and girls) crying dissapointment and disbelief

(d) Repeat "a" in 4-6 months time

If this is a silent update, then most likely everyone is going to be disappointed, if there is a silent update then no major changes.

+1

Aye aye

This whole level of excitement that we're all getting reminds me of the last iMac update which, after much speculation, was some what of an anti-climax. Why do I get the impression we might just be suffering that again very soon:confused:

I'd love to buy an iMac to replace my ancient PPC G4 800Mhz angle poise iMac, and have got the money in the bank. However they're not seeing a penny of my cash if all we see are Apples continued use of Core 2 Duo chips, surely this processor is at the end of it's life cycle?

Personally wouldn't be surprised if we see a case redesign, possibly an SD Card slot and a bit of a spec bump and, who knows, an LED screen. Maybe come Spring 2010 a proper move to Quad Core processors and a BTO option of a Blu-ray drive. Hope I'm wrong and this update is a big leap for the iMac but the pessimist in me is lowering my expectations.

To be honest if we do see a major redesign with the new chips inside them but NO fanfare for it i will be disappointed by that. The iMac deserves to be treated with more respect as its the closest thing to a normal desktop that apple currently have.

Hm, an invitation should be sent at any time if there are event here in the near future. And if there are event, then it's something BIG on the way, that I promise.

But how the hell can the shops make money now if a customer comes in and wants to buy something that is not there? The stores will lose a lot of this - and it must surely mean that an update is here soon, for it can not take too long until the new update is here.

I am hoping for a mini with a quad core. Weather its standard or BTO and maybe a better graphics card like a ATI 4350, that would give a nice little boost over the 9400m.

I would love a quad core iMac but I have a really good monitor that I spent 500 bucks on so if they did update the mini I would get that over the iMac and put 4GB of ram and a 64GB SSD with my 500GB 7200 drive, to make it nice and fasttttttttt :D

True, and it is ALL speculation and assumption.

Nothing says they are doing a quiet release.
Nothing says a quiet release can't be done with heavy redesign.

Just gotta wait and see.

If they redesign it to be a better package, I'll get one in November.
If they don't, I'll wait until next year when they do something more progressive with the computer.

Well, it is worth noting that they didn't send out this retail alert about limited stock in March when they sprung the early 2009 refresh on us all.

So let's hope for good things but try not to be crushed if it doesn't pan out!

If they add a built to order graphics card or make it default in the low end mini im gonna be p*ssed i just bought it 4 weeks ago figureing hey it took them over a year to do a update and the update was in the begining of the year to so i went ahead and bought one but im gonna be aggravated if there is a big improvement over the low end model.
