If T-Mobile does $5 or free per month then that's perfect. Otherwise it's a no go. Even the data on my iPad is free and it's way more useful than data on a watch.

Knowing T-Mobile, they could announce that you don't have to pay $10 extra for your Apple Watch and just add it for free on your current plan.

I think they announced it as $10 now. :( I was hoping for free too.

"T-Mobile has confirmed that it’ll offer the Apple Watch Series 3. Customers can get three months of free talk, text, and data with Digits when they buy an Apple Watch Series 3. After those three months, Apple Watch Series 3 owners can get unlimited talk, text, and data with Digits for $10 per month with Autopay."

Ahahaha!! No way in hell will I be adding $10 a month to my wireless bill for a watch. Most people have their phone with them 24/7 anyway. The only people I see this appealing to are those really into fitness activities, like swimming and running.

Can you make a phone call under water?

This is insane pricing for a device that will use only minimal data. It should be free except perhaps for a one-time activation fee. The carriers would still make money because any data use could be charged against the user's iPhone data package.

I saw on the Verge that T-Mobile was charging $10. But even WORSE, they are going to force you to use the Digits app. Which means your calls (on iPhone and watch) and SMS get routed through the digits app instead of Apple’s continuity embedded in iOS. Absolutely stupid. The digits app also has mandatory location services turned on, at least for it to work properly. So it’s a battery hog. Very unlike T-Mo.
This sounds terrible. I hope this gets changed before too long.

I understand why they want money. They can.

But as soon as one offers a plan that allows the watch to pull from the number's data... they all will.

But it might NOT use a small amount of data, if you stream Apple Music to it eight hours a day while at work.

I can see the argument or charging 'something' as it is a device that will constantly be pinging cell towers (like your phone does even when it just sits there doing nothing), but $10/mo seems high.

Those who stream data all day long presumably also have plans that can handle that (or they pay overages). If the data is charged against the phone account anyway, the mere fact of excessive streaming is no reason to charge this much.

Haha never will I ever pay that. I’ll stick with my Series 0 AW for at least another year.

Even though I buy the cellular versions of iPads to get GPS, I tether them to avoid the ripoff -- and here we go with the watch. I would like to get the advanced charging which will be released in 2018 but I wonder if a cellular plan will be optional if you don't want calling?

Do we have any idea yet how the watch and phone will interact? In other words, will there be a proximity sensor that turns LTE on and off on the watch when it's near the phone and away? I'm assuming this is shared data, or its own plan?

First of all, you can't own a watch without a phone, so you are going to continue to need to buy a phone, since the number is tied to the phone. Second, most people are going to take their phones with them when they leave the house.....directions, camera, web, social media, news, etc.. You can give short text replies on a Watch, but forget about anything lengthy or complex. So, the phone is going to be with you most of the time.

Therefore, you will be paying $70 for the radio plus $120 per year for the connection. If you only find yourself away from home, without your phone, and wearing the Watch a few times per year, it's a pretty expensive price per call.

Remember, even the series 0 Watch will accept calls over wifi, so when you are home and your phone is on wifi, you can get calls on your older none LTE Watch without carrying your phone around the house. Actually, they have wifi at my gym, so I can leave my phone in the locker and get calls and text on my Series 1 Watch.

10 bucks a month just to have a little used companion device on my cell account is absurd. that adds $120 to the price of the watch — every year!

I usually roll my eyes at the nickel-and-diming that can be common in the Apple community, but I must agree with folks here.

This is not a situation where people are complaining about a $10 app which took a team of developers and designers 18 months to build.

This is different. The cellular Apple Watch is adding meaningless load to an existing cellular network, one you are already paying for for your phone.

The big guys missed the value prop. This is worth, at most, 60 bucks a year.

And honestly, most people won't think it's worth that much. The Apple Watch is still a secondary device in terms of communication. Health is the use case. Since I need a phone sub, this is no difference than making more calls with my phone. Who cares if it's another device on the same number?

My guess is the process fall to 4.99 within 6 months. t-mobile will lead the way.

While I think the new features of the watch are cool there is nothing there that will noticeably make my like better. Knowing that there will be an additional fee just gave me a reason to not bother buying it.
Saving money is not a crime.

Why the hideous red dot on the crown for EVERY version of the case?
To identify the suckers that are willing to pay an additional 120 a year.

$120 a year? you've GOT to be kidding me. This is absurd. This should be free.

Hoping T-Mobile does this for free.

I'm not a super rich person, but I do like to be on the bleeding edge'ish of tech. If this were $5 per month then I'd probably have bit the bullet and bought the Series 3 LTE. But at $10 per month, just not worth it. I'll stick to the Series 2 at least until there's a real good sale.

I called Verizon earlier and they said depending on your plan the cost would vary. If you have the unlimited plan it could get to the 10-30 per month. But if you DO NOT have unlimited it is $5. I suggest people start calling their provider to confirm.

I called Verizon today and they told me on the phone with my plan that it is $5/month for Smartwatches (ex: New Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S). This is in the USA. It even says in right on their website.

Apple today unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3, which is the first Apple Watch model that includes an LTE chip for standalone cellular service on the device. Neither carriers nor Apple are offering information on what we can expect as far as pricing for connectivity goes, but a report from TheStreet sheds some light on what carriers are planning to charge on a monthly basis for the LTE Apple Watch in the United States.

AT&T plans to charge $10 per month to add an Apple Watch to an existing service plan while Verizon will also charge $10 per month after offering customers three free months of service.

Sprint and T-Mobile both plan to support the LTE Apple Watch, but have not provided details on how much it will cost per month. With AT&T and Verizon charging $10, pricing could be similar at Sprint and T-Mobile.

Because the Apple Watch and the iPhone share a phone number, both devices must use the same carrier for connectivity.

The LTE Apple Watch will be available in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and China, with Apple offering a list of supported carriers in each country on its website.

Pricing on the new LTE Apple Watch starts at $399 in the United States for the 38mm Aluminum model. Non-LTE versions are also available, with pricing on those models starting at $329. The Series 3 Apple Watch will be available for pre-order on September 15, with orders arriving on September 22, the official launch date of the device.

Update: T-Mobile also plans to charge $10 per month for the Apple Watch Series 3, and like Verizon, will offer three months of free service before charges kick in.

I agree with everyone. I was totally planning to spend a ton of money to buy a the iPhone 8 and the Apple Watch 3, but now with the reveal, I am probably buying nothing.
