I'm not a super rich person, but I do like to be on the bleeding edge'ish of tech. If this were $5 per month then I'd probably have bit the bullet and bought the Series 3 LTE. But at $10 per month, just not worth it. I'll stick to the Series 2 at least until there's a real good sale.
Definitely agree. I also think Apple/Telcos have completely missed the boat with people that have corporate phones and WON'T be able to add the additional device. There had to be a better way to go for this money grab. In this (my) case, they can't get it from me even if I was willing to pay that much. P.S. they are insane.

I'm in this boat and still not sure if there's any way I'll be able to use the LTE AW S3. I would be fine with Verizon's $5/month add-on, if I had a personal phone; but my Verizon bill is for 3 phones belonging to my wife and two teenagers.

I called Verizon today and they told me on the phone with my plan that it is $5/month for Smartwatches (ex: New Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S). This is in the USA. It even says in right on their website.
I also assumed it would be $5/mo like the rest of their wearables, and I have seen a few posts about people calling Verizon where they confirm the $5/mo.

Where is this $10/mo number coming from? I don't see anything other than the circle jerk of tech news sites reporting it and there's nothing official on Verizon's site.

I kind of expected $10/mo about a month ago when I first learned about LTE version.
But after evaluating how often I will be in the situation where I will need my watch to take the text or phone call without wifi or my phone... hmmmmm. I guess I will keep $120/yr + tax and fees.

Ridiculous. So on a family plan if your line is $10 you basically add another line for the Apple Watch.
[doublepost=1505275267][/doublepost]Can't you already use FaceTime calling on Apple Watch?

To show everyone that you have the latest model. I'm waiting for aftermarket red dots.

I saw on the Verge that T-Mobile was charging $10. But even WORSE, they are going to force you to use the Digits app. Which means your calls (on iPhone and watch) and SMS get routed through the digits app instead of Apple’s continuity embedded in iOS. Absolutely stupid. The digits app also has mandatory location services turned on, at least for it to work properly. So it’s a battery hog. Very unlike T-Mo.

This sounds terrible. I hope this gets changed before too long.

This isn't true, Gamble20 is interpreting that Verge article incorrectly. That's not how DIGITS works on iOS and watchOS.

The DIGITS app would only be used to share a number with devices from other carriers, or WiFi devices with no cellular.

The DIGITS service is used to tie the same phone number to multiple device, that's all.

From their FAQ :

"If you use Apple devices exclusively, then there’s no need to use the DIGITS app."

In no way shape or form would I ever pay extra to use data THAT I ALREADY PAY FOR.

I wish someone with more time and money than me would sue (or lobby against) these greedy scum bags for charging us multiple times for the same product we already paid for.

I’m glad they put the non cell 70$ cheaper. If the HR monitor ends up being an actual upgraded sensor I’ll be very much inclined to get it. Even more so if it has some type of “strain” measuring with HRV like the new Garmins are doing, and the 500$ whoop strap.

5$ would of tempted me to spend the extra 70$, 10$ a month isn’t going to break the bank, but it’s more like they are trying to take advantage. ‍♂️

What a shame. As of yesterday, I was going to buy an Apple Series 3 watch. As of today, I am not buying one. $10 a month plus tax is ridiculous. I am willing to pay $5 a month, but no way am I paying $120 a year plus tax.

This could have been a great product to enjoy, but I'm out.

Apple today unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3, which is the first Apple Watch model that includes an LTE chip for standalone cellular service on the device. Neither carriers nor Apple are offering information on what we can expect as far as pricing for connectivity goes, but a report from TheStreet sheds some light on what carriers are planning to charge on a monthly basis for the LTE Apple Watch in the United States.

AT&T plans to charge $10 per month to add an Apple Watch to an existing service plan while Verizon will also charge $10 per month after offering customers three free months of service.

Sprint and T-Mobile both plan to support the LTE Apple Watch, but have not provided details on how much it will cost per month. With AT&T and Verizon charging $10, pricing could be similar at Sprint and T-Mobile.

Because the Apple Watch and the iPhone share a phone number, both devices must use the same carrier for connectivity.

The LTE Apple Watch will be available in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and China, with Apple offering a list of supported carriers in each country on its website.

Pricing on the new LTE Apple Watch starts at $399 in the United States for the 38mm Aluminum model. Non-LTE versions are also available, with pricing on those models starting at $329. The Series 3 Apple Watch will be available for pre-order on September 15, with orders arriving on September 22, the official launch date of the device.

Update: T-Mobile also plans to charge $10 per month for the Apple Watch Series 3, and like Verizon, will offer three months of free service before charges kick in.

That is what I heard when I called yesterday

The $10 a month is relatively standard. It is treated as if you have a separate mobile hotspot(I know the phone can be one. I am just using this as an example). It wasn't gonna be free. It would be in whatever data plan you have.

One question I haven't seen asked:

If I buy the LTE Series 3 Watch, do I HAVE to activate the cellular immediately? Or is it like iPads where I can pay for the cellular plan off and on?

I was wondering the same thing!

Edit, just chatted with AT&T. I have unlimited plus, they told me it would be $20 to add the apple watch to my plan and it's required not optional.

I was really excited to see the new S3 but im not paying an extra $10 for data that is not going to be used- my phone is usually within arms reach.. guess ill be staying with my S2.

Holy ****. I do not have unlimited plus on AT&T so I wonder if it'll be more than $20 for me to add an Apple Watch. That's crazy expensive.

Yeah, take it with a grain of salt since this was just a CSR in online chat but for 20 and no option, I'm out. I'll go with out. Even with an iPad I would never pay full time for LTE.

I work across from an AT&T Store. I will be stopping by shortly to ask them these questions. Hopefully they have gotten some inside info on how this will work.

i'll be going to the mall this afternoon as well and i have an account with both Tmobile and Att. Ill chat with both of them and see if they have any details

whelp, I was planning on getting the LTE watch, but not now.

I don't see how this is costing the carriers any extra money. Not like this is going to increase usage of their networks. F this.

Back!

More information will be available on Friday, but this is what the sales people at the following stores had to say:

Verizon
Info not available on their associate intranet yet. Might be a 2 year contract at $10 a month. Will know more on Friday.

AT&T
Info and training material not received yet, but will likely be an additional device for $10 a month if you're an existing customer. More information available on Friday. No word on contract.

Sprint
Apparently Sprint hasn't carried the Apple Watch in store since the first one? The guy basically shrugged his shoulders. :):):):):):)
