120 Hz only on the Pro Max and not Pro would be inacceptable. It’s not hard to find a solution for the bigger battery drain: use a bigger battery like other manufac has done.

Why would it be unacceptable? If you care about refresh, buy the more expensive/bigger device. If not, but the lower cost device. Nothing wrong with choices.

Refresh rates matter. When the iPhone finally has higher rates, you're going to hear a lot of "I picked up my old iPhone and it's crazy how much less smooth it is compared to my new iPhone" type comments. You'll see.
Last video is my point not being able to see much difference. He had to slow down video and recorded in 30fps to see stutter of 60hz. I can see the benefit with console gaming i have PS5 with 120hz oled display. Even when I play 60 vs 120 the difference is minimal. 30 vs 60 big difference. Just my eyes... not claiming some people don’t get the benefit. Maybe I’m getting old my eye balls are slowing down.

Honestly, when I got the S21 Ultra I used it for about a month straight, I then threw my SIM back in my 12 Pro Max and it was instantly noticeable. You readjust to 60hz, but at first it almost gave me a headache.

That's why my original statement in this thread was that it's a feature most noticeable in its absence. I'm almost positive the first time I thought about features that way was after hearing Ives talk about them in that context. It's such an obvious move for the iPhone.

It wouldn’t be acceptable not for a pro device.
Why? High refresh rate is a compromise. Is a slightly more 'fluid' display more 'pro' than an extra hour of battery life? In a phone?

I do have an iPad Pro with ProMotion. And, if I put it side by side to an older iPad, the difference CAN absolutely be seen. But when I go back to a non-ProMotion device I don't ever miss it like I did when going back and forth between retina and non-retina devices. That's to say that while noticeable, the difference may not be enough to sacrifice battery life in something like a phone for the general public.

In other breaking news, heard some rumors in the industry and media that there would only be one iPhone model from Apple later this year. Can confirm that is not the case. Apple fans can relax! 🙄

I just love whe someone makes up a rumor,..just to big note themeselves Lol..where was the origional rumor??

Why is this on Macrumors? He simply made it up & was caught out 😂

I definitely see the difference but can adjust back and forth fine. But honestly the vast majority of people won’t care...

this is apple just checking off a box for tech nerds.

Can someone please educate me on what the big deal is about this?
I don't seem to have any issue with scrolling on my current iphone 12 Max Pro or my 2018 iPad Pro.
Your 2018 iPad pro has promotion - a variable refresh rate up to 120hz. I fing fast scrolling is a ever so slightly smoother on my 2018 iPad Pro than my iPhone 12 Pro Max despite the much older processor it’s using.

They ought to be putting these in regular iPhones, not just pro's. LCD-screened Androids at $300 are sporting 90hz displays, IME it makes a significant difference (the jump to 90 is a great deal of the perceptible jump).

This forum will be littered with "120hz is amayzing, glad Apple [post-hoc rationalization for holding out several years and reserving it for 1k+ phones]" posts come october lmao. I mean holy hell the cope

I don’t miss my 120hz ipad pro when i switch to my 60hz iphone pro. Difference is noticeable if I look for it, but I don’t miss it, wouldn’t pay extra for it, and certainly wouldn’t switch platforms to get it.

Consider yourself lucky. I don't miss OLED when using my MBA, shrug, different strokes

I also don’t miss oled on my MBP. But I would love it on my ipad, where I watch a lot of movies. Not much use on my iphone, where true black and dynamic range is not a big issue for me given how i use it.

why, exactly? Because you say so?

Because if you paying over 1k for a device it should not be 60hz. That’s way behind the times. All premium phones need to be 120hz. 60hz isn’t awful on iPhones but it’s certainly no where near as smooth as 120hz and you shouldn’t need to buy the biggest model to get it

Because for 1k it should be expected and standard . Why should somebody need to buy the biggest model to get the same smoothness on a pro device? You shouldn’t

Not a big deal, but your 2018 iPad Pro already has it (this is what Apple calls ProMotion), so you can try scrolling on your iPad and iPhone side-by-side to see if you can spot a difference. 🖐
